Off-Grid Life In a $4,500 Converted School Bus

The off-the-grid life can take many forms – a traditional home, an earthbag house and even an underground abode.

But what about a converted school bus? That’s the route that off-gridder Patrick Schmidt took when he bought a used school bus and then converted it into his own home on wheels – complete with a bed, a kitchen area, a restroom and solar panels.

Schmidt is this week’s guest on Off The Grid Radio, as he shares with us how he converted the bus into a home and also provides details of his journey across the country.

It’s an off-grid life like no other. Schmidt tells us:

  • Where he found his used bus, which cost $4,500.
  • Why he chose a bus instead of other forms of off-grid homes.
  • How he makes money off-grid while living on the road.
  • Which parts of America he enjoyed most on a recent 15,000-mile voyage.
  • How he repaired the bus when it died, simply by posting a picture of the engine on social media.
  • Why he chose not to put a television in the bus.

Schmidt left his job to buy the bus, and he shares with us all of the priceless benefits of escaping the rat race. If you’ve ever wanted to travel the country or live in a portable home, then you don’t want to miss this week’s show!

SPP153 Interview With Dan of Future DangerIn this week’s show I had the pleasure of talking to Dan from the new website Future Danger.com, a web tool as he calls it. I learned a lot about what makes his website stand out from the rest, and why it really is a “web tool”

I talked about how I have a few websites that I go to on a daily basis such as Prepper Website, the Drudge Report, Survival Pulse and now Future Danger. With so much information online, checking these websites while I’m drinking my morning coffee has literally replaced the morning paper.

In this week’s show you will learn what makes this website a tool to filter out the fluff, and only provide information that is relevant to our daily lives and preparedness. It is not a “preparedness” website so to speak, and it won’t tell you how to prepare, but it will tell you why.

Most of the topics on the website cover the exact reasons we prepare in the first place. From economics and natural disasters, to losing out liberty’s and attacks on the constitution, keeping up to date on this information is vital to our preparedness.

SPP153 Interview with Dan of Future Danger

Here are a few of the topics we discussed in the show, but to get a full understanding of the website you will definitely want to listen.

What does this webtool do?

FutureDanger is a “newsradar” of handpicked news stories. We don’t just “aggregate” news – we curate it in real-time. Real people on our staff do the dirty work of categorizing, ordering and separating stories so they make sense.

We put news into context. The purpose is to provide advanced crisis warning for prepared Americans to make final provisions and informed decision-making concerning strategic relocation in the event of a disaster.

What problem does FutureDanger solve?

People prepared to survive live with dilemmas. For most Americans, one dilemma is this: their livelihoods depend on living in highly populated areas. In the event of a significant crisis, retreating from urban centers is highly advisable. These urban and suburban preppers intend to evacuate as early as possible, but no sooner than necessary.  Before FutureDanger, these folks needed to maintain vigilance of multiple news sources so they could to move on short notice to less populated areas. This constant monitoring is hard.

The second dilemma is the ever-increasing amount of online news. It can sometimes be a torrential downpour of information. For unprepared people, it seems not to matter. Our community, however, cannot afford to be overwhelmed by redundant news.

They cannot be distracted by useless news.

They do not want to over-react when the media hypes, nor under-react when the media downplays or ignores real threats emerging. And they absolutely cannot miss critical signals that should put their personal survival plans into motion.

FutureDanger is a solution. It allows, for the first time on the internet, actionable survival decision-making. We filter and consolidate fragmented signals and warnings onto one web location. We communicate the big picture of immediate major trends.

FutureDanger is an open source analysis tool, like the ones used by the Pentagon and Intelligence Community. Privately developed intelligence assessments can cost thousands of dollars and are accessible only to large corporations and elite customers. If these actors can keep their interests protected, it is time American citizens have a warning system available to them as well.

What is this website doing differently?

Instead of website visitors, FutureDanger has website users. The homepage is a tool. It is called the Heatmap Dashboard. It is designed to save users an immense amount of time each day. People serious about being prepared do not have time to scan each and every news story from all the sites that cover threats. The Heatmap Dashboard brings the news to one location, in a Single Operating Picture.

What is the Indicator System and how does it work?

Future Danger Heat MapIndicators are common sense warning signs. Most Americans would agree that if only a few of these Indicators were to happen, life as we all know it would change for the worse. The Indicator System is a set of nearly 500 of these signs. These are the kind of conditions that drive people to prepare for survival. Although none of us wants them to happen, and everyone can argue about how likely they are to happen, every one of them could happen.

Breaking news stories are linked to Indicators. They are the evidence an Indicator is “heating up”. When collected in one location, our Indicators become a system for threat surveillance. Pieces of these signals and warnings can be found on a handful of other survival websites, but they frequently are not updated and never fully organized. No other website is doing this. We found a gap that none have chosen to fill.

Venezuela Style Martial Law, Is It Coming to the United States?

Click here to view the original post.

VenezuelaAlan Greenspan on Thursday May 26 told Fox News that Venezuela is now under martial law and that “America is next.” He said that what was happening in Venezuela was inevitably going to take place in the US.  Former Reagan budget director David Stockman on Wednesday told Neil Cavuto the U.S. could be on the verge of a market economic collapse.

So that brings up the question what is happening in Venezuela.  Well for preppers this may very well prove to be a good primer of what can happen here.  They are already having food shortages, riots, chaos and looting.  I would not be surprised if within a few days the army is shooting the rioters and looters in the street.  Now these rioters are desperate people who are starving, they are not out stealing televisions they want food.

Supermarket shelves in Venezuela are  bare, and power shortages are so severe that government offices are now open only two days a week. The health care system has collapsed, the crime rate is one of the world’s worst, and inflation is rapidly eroding what remains of the currency’s value.

“The economy has gone from bad to worse to horrific,” said Jason Marczak, director of the Latin America Economic Growth Initiative at the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, part of the Atlantic Council, a Washington-based research organization. “The Venezuelan government is doing a good job of leading itself into chaos.”

Now you wonder how a country with the largest oil reserves in the world could get itself into this conditionThe socialist policies of state ownership, unfettered spending, subsidies, domestic price controls and massive government regulations are responsible.

Price controls are an interesting example.  They have been placed on food staples in an attempt to make food more available to the poor.  The problem is that the prices were less than the cost of producing the products.  As a result, manufactures quite producing these foods.  Less food was available in the government-controlled stores.  Corruption increased and food from the government-controlled stores was diverted into the black market and sold at high prices.  As a result, there is less food available for the poor.

This is the type of authoritarian socialism that we are starting to see in the United States.  If we continue on this path, we will see the same results.  Already the price of homes and many other commodities are being driven up by ridicules government regulations.  In California, the cost of building a modest home is increased by $50,000 to $100,000 in permit fees.  The proposed $15 dollar an hour minimum wage, if passed will lead to more unemployment and and more people dependent and enslaved on the government dole.

So what do we need to do to stop this?  The first thing is to vote for candidates that will oppose these policies.  But in reality, I think we are a bit too late.  So get your food storage and other preps and develop a means of producing extra food.  A little silver or gold won’t hurt.  In Venezuela, you can still buy things on the black market if you have the funds.  You may want to read a post that I wrote last month on the Food Crisis in Venezuela Shows What could Happen Here

Understand that in a martial law situation you will have lost all of your rights.  Prepare yourselves to deal with it and survive.

He Burns Coffee Grounds In His Backyard

Are mosquitoes ruining your Summer? These little critters seem to appear everywhere without warning and leave you behind a little gift – a red, sore, itchy bite! Trying to swat them in the air seems fruitless, you are probably spending a small fortune on traps and sprays, so it’s time you put an end to this for FREE!

This method will blow your mind, it’s free, eco friendly and it can be used indoors and outdoors. It really works!

All you need is used coffee grounds. What family doesn’t have old coffee grounds lying around right? Well put them to good use by making this incredible mosquito repelling repellent. Soon your home will become a mosquito free paradise!

Simply follow these steps:

  1. Dry out your used coffee grounds by placing them in a bowl, cover with aluminum foil and store in a cool dark place.
  2. Once dried, empty them onto a flat surface, you can use a plate covered in foil.
  3. Now all you do is burn the coffee grounds like you would incense.

The intense smell from the burning coffee grounds will upset those smell sensitive critters and they will stay well away, make sure you put your burning coffee plate in a central area so they leave you and your family alone.

If you are hosting a gathering, why not place several of these repellents around your garden so your guests can enjoy being outside in peace.

Dumping Radioactive Food from Japan on the World-Why the TPP is a Pending Disaster
https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/01/09/dumping-radioactive-food-from-japan-on-the-world-why-the-tpp-is-a-pending-disaster/

Hillary Clinton set this up in 2011, after her discussion with Kissinger, and trip to Japan.  The trip was necessary to say things that could only be said one on one.

What did Kissinger tell her to get from the deal?   What do you think the deal was?

1) Japan agreed to keep the “In Japan nuclear weapon program” secret, and pretend to “give back” some 600 pounds of plutonium to USA

2) Japan agreed to let USA place first strike nuclear weapons in Japan for a pre-emptive attack on China or Russia

3) Japan agreed to stop belly aching about US bases in Japan, and agreed to pay a fee for their “protection money”

4) Japan agreed to support the Core NWO lies about Global Warming and Carbon Tax, and the Transpacific Trade Partnership.    It is essential to get USA and Japan on board for the One World Government.

Just what exactly do you think Kissinger told Hillary Clinton to get from Japan in return for agreeing that USA would purchase all their radioactive food, without testing?

————————————————————————-

The reality is that the truth of the Japan Radioactive Food Deal is so lurid, so disgusting, that Clinton failed to produce any Fukushima related emails to the State Department investigation.    Under penalty of jail time, Clinton withheld all the Fukushima Deal emails after a certain turning point in which her “people” urged her to go to Japan regardless of her being super tired and overworked, and urged her to “talk to Kissinger”.

Fish Farming: The Overlooked Path To More Income, Tons Of Food, And Less Worries

Fish Farming: The Overlooked Path To More Income, Tons Of Food, And Less Worries

Generating an income that can sustain operations on the homestead is critical for many of us.

Newly established homesteads require a decent amount of income to add acreage, outbuildings and livestock, as well as purchasing many other items or services. Well-established homesteads also require a steady income to repair and replace, upgrade and add on to provide for needs or wants. Perhaps you are looking to replace an income from a 9-5 job; there are numerous ways to make that happen on every homestead.

Homesteaders, especially those who have the desire to be completely self-sufficient, are frequently researching new opportunities to generate a sustainable income on the homestead. We sell fruits and vegetables at farmer’s markets, livestock to local butchers, and milk and eggs to friends and neighbors.

Ready to try something new this year?

Discover 1,147 Tips & Tricks Of Successful Off-Grid Living!

Fish farming, used for centuries in many parts of Asia, is also a good way to generate income on the homestead. Also called aquaculture, fish farming provides not only enough meat for those living on the homestead, but will eventually produce plenty to sell at local markets. It need not be expensive, either. The cost of setting up an aquaculture system can be relatively low for those who already have water sources on the homestead, such as a pond or stream.

Fish Farming: The Low-Cost Path To More Income, Abundant Food, And Less WorriesFish farming is similar to growing plants. Fish require steady temperatures, daily nourishment, and relatively clean water to flourish. Providing these essentials will result in large, firm fish that will make for easier sales in local markets. In my area, we have a couple of fish farms that regularly sell out of each week’s harvest during the farmer’s market season. They have found that aquaculture generates an income great enough to sustain the rest of their homestead every year.

There are several methods for small-scale fish farming, including:

  • The cage method, which can be further modified to include a flow-through component.
  • The greenhouse method, which includes raising hydroponic plants to filter and add nutrients to the water.
  • The contained method, in which one pool or tank is used in conjunction with several filters and aerators to maintain water quality.

Which method you choose depends largely on what water sources are available around your homestead. The cage method, consisting of a system of cages submerged in ponds, is perhaps the least expensive method, as ponds have a natural filtration system in place. A slight variation on the cage method involves using a nearby stream with a system of cages, allowing water to flow freely through each cage and providing nutrients to the fish that are carried to them continuously by fresh water.

New Mini Pocket Power Plus Can Charge All Your Electronics — And Fit In Your Pocket!

Starting a greenhouse operation is the most difficult, due to the many variables that need to be taken into consideration. In addition to the cost of the greenhouse materials and tanks for holding large volumes of water, you also may need to purchase or produce chillers or other cooling mechanisms in extremely hot weather to keep water temperatures in the range necessary for the fishes’ survival — a considerable financial investment.

A simple pool or even a livestock tank can be used to set up a contained system for aquaculture. Water filters and aerators will definitely be a necessity to ensure healthy fish. This type of system can be quite inexpensive.

Not all types of fish will flourish in your location. Choosing the right type of fish for your homestead’s environment may take a bit of trial and error, but a small amount of research will lessen the amount of losses due to the weather.

Remove Ants Fast With These Simple Tricks

They are small but mighty, tiny but vicious and most importantly they always turn up to your BBQ’s even when they aren’t invited! You guessed it, we are talking about ANTS!

Getting rid of these little pests is incredibly hard, after all there are so many of them, and we are only bothered by them in THEIR environment.
Of course you can buy all sorts of expensive fad products, all claiming that their sprays are the ONLY way to get rid of ants…instead of spending huge amounts of money in a bid to get rid of ants, why not remove ants quickly and efficiently with these 7 simple but genius tricks!

From cleaning soda cans and making moats for your picnic tables, we bet you have never heard of these incredible ideas!

Here’s the full list:

  1. Place each leg of your picnic in disposable pie trays, this creates a moat where ant’s can no longer crawl up the legs to all the goodies on the table!
  2. Clean the tops of soda cans before recycling, this may seem obvious but little drops of soda left on the cans can attract ants far and wide.
  3. Make small little traps with Tupperwares and a sugar, water and borax syrup solution. Place these traps where you are most worried about an invasion.
  4. Find the source ‘the ant home’ by tracking the source of where they are coming from, spray a little vinegar in the direction they are coming and slowly follow the traces back….
  5. Once you find the ‘ant home’ saturate it with a running hose for 10 minutes.
  6. For better results use boiling water with added cayenne pepper.
  7. Finally once you have got rid of the source, you will need to get rid of the pheromones that the other ants left behind. Do this by spraying a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar in entrance ways, nooks and crannies to put off any future ants who may want to visit you.

9 Hunting Tips Every Hunter Should Know

9 Hunting Tips Every Hunter Should Know

Hunting is a very popular sport that requires attention to detail, a great amount of patience, and a love for the outdoors. Many individuals spend their lives hunting to provide game for consumption, while others may do it as more of a leisurely activity.

Whatever your desire is for hunting, there are a lot of key components to hunting successfully. While it may take a lot of practice, anyone can learn how to become a sharp shooter with time. To help you experience a successful hunt, we’ve put together 15 of the top hunting tips to help you find your target with ease and land the shot you’ve been waiting for.

  1. Be patient.

There is nothing worse than having a hunting partner who is in a rush to get trigger-happy. Hunting has a lot to do with being patient and waiting for the precise moment when you can land a good shot, and that can take hours, if you’re willing.

Patience is a virtue, especially for those who are still-hunting. If this is your plan of attack, then you should be ready to stay put for long periods.

  1. Bring a watch.

A watch is a great guide to keep you aware of how long you’ve been in one position, or to set a time for how long you want to stay. Still-hunters will especially benefit from this, as it’s easy to lose track of time if you aren’t paying attention.

Bring a wristwatch that’s easily visible from your position, and decide on intervals in which you want to refrain from moving. This is also a great way to keep track of how long you’ve been out and when you plan to shut down for the day.

  1. Travel with purpose.

Even if you’re still looking for a trail or lead, there is a good chance that you’ve already caught the attention of nearby game. In saying this, only move when absolutely necessary, and move with purpose.

If you’re simply trudging through leaves and snapping twigs, then you’re already losing your chances of finding a target. They will have already recognized you and be long gone. Try making staggered movements, and stay light on your feet. Some animals will mistake these sounds for squirrels or small mammals traveling through the terrain.

  1. Practice shooting positions.

For hunters in tree stands, it’s a great piece of advice to establish your shooting positions. Depending on which direction the animals appear from, you’ll want to be able to maneuver through the tree without bringing attention to yourself.

The best way to do this is to locate your best positions ahead of time, and clear any twigs or brush that will make noise when you move. Decide on a clear position for each area the animal could appear from so that you can get a good look or move swiftly without startling them.

  1. Clear your area.

Similar to individuals in tree stands, hunters on the ground should clear their area once they’ve established a spot for still-hunting. Depending on the weather, you’ll need to clear snow, dead leaves, twigs, and other debris from the area so that you can maneuver to a clear shooting position without letting the animal become aware of your position.

As soon as you find a good location, sweep the area as best you can so that you can be a little more forgiving with your movements.

  1. Travel with a waterproof bag.

You might have all of the skills and equipment you need for a successful go at hunting, but if you don’t protect them properly, then you’ll have some problems. Weather can be unforgiving, and, even if you plan ahead, Mother Nature can still change her mind.

Be ready for unforeseen weather problems by packing your gear and possessions in waterproof packs that will protect everything from water, moisture, dirt, and more. Try to double-bag everything, as well, especially things like your rifle scopes and lenses.

  1. Travel on foot before you settle.

If you want to start your hunt off on the right foot, then you better get walking. If you’re driving to a remote location, animals may recognize and steer clear of car sounds and people. If you want to up your chances of catching them off guard, then it’s best to park your car outside of the area and hike your way into your planned location.

This way, animals may have a harder time tracking you or even recognizing that you’ve entered the area.

  1. Invest in a high-quality rifle scope.

Aside from your prized rifles, investing in a high-quality rifle scope is going to do wonders for your accuracy and precision. There are a lot of different kinds available, and they each have their own advantages to help you become more successful with your targets.

You’ll be able to make a better decision about the type of rifle scope you want when you know what kind of hunting you’re doing. Generally, each design will perform best at a specific distance, certain lighting, size of target, etc., so try to recognize what sort of aiming you’ll be doing to find the one that’s best for you.

  1. Try a one-man drive.

If you’re hunting alone, you have the opportunity to do a one-man drive to bring animals out of the woodwork. The key to making this work is to walk into a specific location with the wind at your back; this will bring out your unfamiliar smells and get their attention. After you’ve entered the area, circle around and walk into the same area.

You might notice that your smell and the unfamiliar treading confuse the animals, and they won’t be able to locate where you are. This will either bring them out or have them on guard. If you haven’t seen any movement, try to remain still for a while and see if they return when they believe the threat is gone.

Every hunter will have their own theories and practices about the best way to hunt. If you’re hunting alone, the most important thing you can do is to let someone know where you’re going and what area you’ll be focusing on. This way, if anything happens, you’ll be much easier to locate in case you need help.

If you’re new to hunting, consider these 9 tips to help make the experience easier and more successful! With time, you’ll recognize what kinds of tools and practices work best for you.

5 Survival Remedies To Fight Hepatitis

Click here to view the original post.

Survivopedia hepatitis

Hepatitis simply means “inflammation of the liver”. Though it sounds simple, it’s a condition that can be fatal, especially if you don’t have access to medications to treat it.

Fortunately, there are some natural treatments that can help treat hepatitis.

Your liver has several functions within your body and you can’t live without it. It filters out toxins, helps fight infections and digest food, and stores nutrients and energy. Unlike most of your other body parts, it has regenerative powers but it needs time to heal, and it has to be healthy to do that.

A Few Words About Hepatitis

There are five types of communicable hepatitis: A, B, C, D, and E. Each has different causes, but hepatitis C is considered to be incurable. Hepatitis A, B, and E are all curable and may even resolve on their own without treatment. Autoimmune hepatitis varies in severity so treatment may or may not be necessary. Hepatitis D is an oddity that we’ll discuss in a bit.

Before we begin discussing treatments, let’s talk about what each type of hepatitis is. It’s important that you know about each one because if SHTF, diseases are going to spread like wildfire and know WHAT causes something and whether or not it is contagious will be critical to survival.

Unfortunately, all forms of hepatitis share the same symptoms, so making a diagnosis without a blood test will be virtually impossible. However, there will be people who were diagnosed prior to a catastrophic event and will know what type they have, so in those cases, you have a head start, as long as they choose to share the fact that they have the condition.

Symptoms of any form of hepatitis include:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially in the area of your liver on your right side beneath your lower ribs
  • Clay-colored bowel movements
  • Loss of appetite
  • Low-grade fever
  • Dark urine
  • Joint pain
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)

hepatitis

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV) and is contagious. According  to the Mayo Clinic, hep A is typically transmitted via fecal matter, though it can also be spread through sex or simply by being in close proximity of somebody who has it, whether or not they’re showing symptoms. There is a vaccine for HAV.

Even ingesting the tiniest amount of contaminated fecal matter can cause infection. You probably automatically think of water contamination or transmission because somebody with the virus doesn’t wash their hands after going to the bathroom, and you’d be right. You can also catch it from raw shellfish that’s sourced from contaminated water.

Symptoms of hepatitis A can range from non-existent to severe and don’t occur until you’ve already had the virus for a few weeks. The good thing is that hepatitis A isn’t like other forms of hepatitis; it doesn’t cause long-term liver damage nor does it become chronic. Acute liver failure is a possibility though, but typically that’s only a concern for elderly people or people who already have a chronic liver disease.

There is no treatment for hepatitis A because the disease usually goes away on its own. The liver will heal within six months with no lasting damage. You may want to treat the symptoms though, especially the nausea. Ginger and peppermint are both great for that. You’ll probably feel tired and will want to rest, which is a good idea so that your body can heal.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is caused by the HBV virus and is an infection of the liver. If not treated, it can become chronic and cause liver cancer, cirrhosis, or liver failure. There is a vaccination for it and people in most healthcare-related professions are required to get it.

If you have hepatitis B, you may not even need treatment but you’ll need to get plenty of rest and adequate fluids and nutrition to fight the infection. Beware, because the HBV can live outside the body for up to seven days.

Symptoms tend to develop gradually over three months or so. Hepatitis B is contagious and is passed via blood, semen and other bodily fluids. Typically it’s not passed via saliva though the virus may be present in it. It’s also not airborne, which is a good thing. Sex, sharing needles, and coming into contact with bodily fluids if you have an open wound are the likeliest ways of catching it.

Healthy adults who contract hepatitis B usually recover fully and are cured of the illness. Kids are more likely to develop chronic hep B.

Hepatitis C

This type of hepatitis is the worst that you can get. It has no cure and people who have it typically don’t have symptoms until liver damage appears decades later. It’s spread via blood-to-blood contact.

The worst thing about hepatitis C is that it lingers in your body just like the chicken pox virus does, making a liver transplant useless. It can also survive on surfaces at room temperature for up to six weeks!

Hepatitis D

Hepatitis D piggybacks on hepatitis B. It absolutely cannot be contracted or spread without the HBV already present, but it is spread when the HBV is spread. There are no antivirals to treat it like there are for other types of hepatitis. This type of hepatitis isn’t much to worry about unless you have hepatitis B.

Hepatitis E

This type of hepatitis is passed via the oral-fecal route just like hepatitis A is. It’s typically spread from person to person but can also be contracted by eating undercooked contaminated pork, boar, and deer meat as well as shellfish. Symptoms occur from 15-60 days after exposure.

There is no specific antiviral treatment for hepatitis E and it usually resolves on its own, though some rare cases do progress to chronic condition.

Prevention of Hepatitis

The best way to avoid any type of hepatitis is to practice good sanitation and hygiene. Wash your hands after you use the restroom and before you eat or touch your face. Wash your fruits and vegetables.

Use disinfectants such as bleach to clean surfaces. Boil water that could be contaminated for at least 3 minutes then allow it to cool naturally.

5 Natural Treatments for Hepatitis

Depending upon the type of hepatitis that you have, you may not even need treatment but eating lots of fruits and vegetables will help give your immune system a boost to help it out.

There are also a few natural treatments that have been used in holistic medicine for hundreds or even thousands of years.

1. Milk Thistle

thistle

There’s a compound in milk thistle called silymarin that is a common treatment for hepatitis in holistic medicine. The treatment is made by creating a tincture from the leaves of the Silybum marianum, or milk thistle, plant. It works in  4 ways:

  • Reduces liver inflammation
  • Stimulates the growth of new liver cells
  • Works as an antiviral
  • Protects liver cells from damage by blocking the infection of new cells

2. Turmeric

tumeric

The curcumin in turmeric helps fight hepatitis in a few different ways and should be included in daily diets for people suffering from the disease. It works by:

  • Fighting inflammation
  • Working as an antiviral

Be careful using too much turmeric if you’re on anti-clotting medications because curcumin is a natural blood thinner.

3. Probiotics

probiotics

Though probiotics don’t fight hepatitis directly, they do provide good bacteria that keeps your intestines healthy. This is a big deal for your liver because if your digestive tract is functioning well, it won’t have to work as hard.

Probiotics are found in dairy products such as yogurt, fermented foods, and sour pickles.

4. Artichokes

artichockes

The compound called cynarin in artichoke leaves has several different qualities that make it a good natural treatment for hepatitis:

  • Protects liver cells from being infected by the viruses
  • Promotes growth of new liver cells so that it can regenerate
  • Promotes the outflow of bile from your liver

Having bile moving out of the liver is a good thing because if it’s not, it increases the danger of damage to the liver. Either eat the leaves or make a tincture.

5. Dandelion

dandelion

Tea made from dandelion leaves, roots, and stems is said to promote healing in the liver as well as encourage the outflow of bile. Place about 1 ¼ cup of the roots, stems and leaves in a quart of water and boil til it reduces to a pint. Drink 3 tablespoons six times a day.

In addition to these direct remedies, you can also use natural treatments to address the symptoms of hepatitis. Check out my article on medicinal plants to find something to treat your particular condition.

This cluster of liver infections and diseases is something that you may need to address if SHTF hard enough to cause a breakdown in society as we know it because several strains of it spread so easily. Knowing how to treat it if you get it, and avoid it so you don’t have to worry about treatments is good info to have.

Embrace Your Imperfection

Click here to view the original post.
It seems like every day I apologize to someone because I’m not perfect, not superwoman, and can’t do it all, all the time, perfectly. No high heels and pearls, either!

Are you like me?

Maybe it was silently, where no one heard but you, but you were still doing it – apologizing for your imperfection. You felt ashamed of your weight or your housekeeping, the size of your garden or the amount of livestock you have,  the car you drive or the job you do. You might feel embarrassed by your education, your social skills, the behaviour of your children, or the number of your children – whether you have none or six!

You're not perfect. And really, it's okay. Relax and enjoy your imperfection.

Wanting to be perfect, you forget to embrace, accept and even enjoy your imperfection.

Imperfection is not the opposite of perfection, as if imperfection were a state to be avoided.

Instead, imperfection is the state of acceptance of self through love. Without seeing who you truly are, you won’t know what to change and what to keep. Perfectionism just throws everything out the window to insist that you are not and never will be enough. That is when your inner critic shows up, letting you know just how unworthy and unlovable you are.

Recently, in a Facebook post, I thanked my readers for being there and asked everyone to write “I am awesome and I know it!” to show that they had read the post. Although some did just that, many of my readers (who are talented, beautiful, skilled and quite amazing people, every one of you!) had a shocking level of difficulty writing those words.

We want to change our lives and change the world. We want to improve things for ourselves and others. But before we can do that, we need to accept – and embrace – our perfect imperfection.

“I am Me”

“Accept me as I am” is a battle cry.
It doesn’t mean that you won’t change detrimental habits because you are embracing who you are. It also doesn’t mean that you are promoting laziness or lack of ambition. Most of my readers are actively homesteading, increasing their preparedness and self-sufficiency and more – you are not lazy!

What it does mean is that you have taken a look inside of yourself and seen who the person inside truly is. There are things that you like about yourself and also things that you don’t, but it all works together to become the person that you are today.

True change in your life is an act of love.

You can lose weight when you love who you are right now at your current weight. It means that your life, self-esteem and happiness are not tied to a number. Anything done out of self-hate doesn’t usually last because you are always criticizing your efforts, and that is NOT how to get started with new, healthy habits. Nothing is ever good enough because you start off not liking anything about yourself from the beginning. You’d leave your own body if you could.

There is nothing healthy about that. Imperfection says that the only way through is with love on board. Accepting and embracing you by celebrating why you are unique. It is getting reacquainted with yourself through a few steps that show the value that was there all along.

You're not a perfect piggy like this handsome guy. You have problems, flaws and baggage. But it's okay. Embrace your imperfection and learn to love yourself - and others.

5 Ways to Imperfect Freedom

#1 Take some serious time for introspection – Don’t be afraid to look at yourself honestly. Write down what is positive and what is negative in your eyes. Find ways to change the wording of those negatives so they are now positives that you can embrace. If you think that your ankles are big, find shoes to wear that minimize their appearance as such.
#2 Discover what you like to do and don’t like to do – Don’t be afraid to say “no” to events or activities that don’t foster your interests just because it’s a “cool” or “acceptable” thing to do.
#3 Try something new – Try bold colors for clothing or change your hairstyle. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting with new looks to accentuate your positives and give yourself a confidence boost.
#4 Laugh more – Laughter promotes feel-good endorphin release. Take time out to have fun and take a rest. It is restorative and also promotes health.
#5 Explore your creative side –Are you a “right-brained” person? Find out if you have any creative tendencies. Stimulate that side of your brain to bring out attributes you didn’t know you had.
Allow yourself to be human, flawed and free by embracing your imperfect life.
Right now, know that you really are wonderful, lovable and loved in your glorious imperfection.

Dear Mom of the ADHD Child, You WILL Be Okay

Dear mom of the child with ADHD

Dear mom of the ADHD child,

You will be okay!
You will have days when you want to pull your hair out.
You will have days when you see hope.
You will be judged if you choose to medicate.
You will be judged if you don’t.
You will be accused of being a bad parent.
You will be accused of not discipling enough.
Or too much.
People will take pity on you.
They will look down their nose at you.
Doctor’s will give you advice. So will Grandma. And the neighbor. And the teachers.

Until they live an HOUR in your life, they don’t know.
They don’t know the struggles you have every morning getting ready for school.
They don’t know the struggles every afternoon to get homework done.
They don’t know you worry that your child isn’t eating enough because the medication curbs their appetite.
They don’t know you sometimes don’t want to answer your phone because you are afraid it is the principal. Or the bus driver. Again.

Who doesn’t judge?
Who doesn’t accuse?
Who does know?

A loving and merciful God!
Do you know Him?

He knows your daily struggles.
He knows you get discouraged.

He LOVES your child even more than you do!

He hears your prayers!

He CHOSE you to be this special child’s mama.
YOU!

You know why?

Because YOU are the BEST mama for your child.
Nobody else!

I am HONORED He CHOSE me to have not just a child with ADHD, but also a child with ADD.
Sixteen months apart.

They are in their 20’s now, and I am here today to tell you about it.
You know what that means?
I survived.

No, it wasn’t a cake walk.
There are full periods of time in their young lives that are a blur to me.
There are also great memories.
There were many adoring kisses and handfuls of dandelion bouquets.
Many ‘look mom’ moments as they were daredevils on the playground.

Friend, I am here today to tell you

YOU WILL BE OKAY!

How To Be Prepared For The Unexpected

Click here to view the original post.

Do you know how to be prepared for the unexpected? If you turn on the radio in your car or listen to the national or local television news reports there are so many reasons we must be prepared today, not tomorrow, for the unexpected. My husband and I love to eat dinner watching Scott Pelley on CBS to get the latest news around the world. The last few days we are horrified by the flooding we see in the Houston area and are praying for the families affected. Before that, it was Austin, Texas with horrid rain falls. As I remember, they had twenty inches of rain in 24-48 hours and they are getting more.

As you may know, Page Street Publishing Company asked me to write a book to help people be prepared and survive by outlining the skills they need. I would love every family in the world to have one of my books and I will be having giveaways often so people will have a chance to win one. If you already have my book and you enter and win the giveaway please share the book with a friend or family member. My book has the tools to be prepared in order to survive most any disaster or unforeseen emergency.

Tips to be prepared:

Sometimes we need to be reminded to do all the following, one step at a time.

  1. Store water so you have a minimum of 4 gallons per person per day for all the members of your family (I recommend a minimum of 30 days)
  2. Store food to supply your family for a minimum of seven days (I recommend a minimum of 30 days)
  3. Gather your important documents today not tomorrow. I have a FREE download for you: Food Storage Moms Binder Contents One of the pages explains all of the items you need, like a zippered binder, zippered pouches and picture holders for your family photos, etc.
  4. If you have a 72-hour go bag that’s awesome. If you cannot afford a bag put your all the items in a box that you will need to survive for 72 hours in case of a disaster.

The book I’ll be giving away details many other things to consider as you prepare for possible disasters. What will happen if you lose power and can’t heat or cool your home or cook your meals? How will you communicate if your cell or land line phones don’t work? How will you stay warm, wash dishes or clothes or run home appliances if the electricity is not available? What if you have to evacuate your home? There are so many things to consider. The book will bring to your attention many things you’ve probably never thought about. Once you read the book you’ll want share the concepts with all your extended family, friends, and co-workers.

This Prepare Your Family For Survival book giveaway is open to any resident who is 18 years of age or older who lives in one of the 48 US Contiguous States. This giveaway starts on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016, at 5:00 am (MDT) and ends on Thursday, June 9th, 2016, at 5:00 pm (MDT). The winner will be notified by email and will have 24 hours to respond. If we do not hear back from said winner in the designated time period of 24 hours we will choose another winner and they will have 24 hours to respond from the time the notification email is sent. Please check your SPAM email folders. Good luck to everyone! Let’s be prepared for the unexpected!

The Dreaded Antibiotic-Resistant Superbug We Long Feared Has Arrived

Click here to view the original post.
The Dreaded Antibiotic-Resistant Superbug We Long Feared Has Arrived

The “superbug” health officials have long worried about has finally emerged in the United States.

A Pennsylvania woman, now known as patient zero, is being poked and prodded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) doctors to learn more about the deadly bacteria that is resistant to even the “last resort” antibiotic, colistin.

CDC officials are currently interviewing the unidentified Pennsylvania woman and her friends and family, to help determine how she contracted the superbug, which is a strain of E. coli.

The woman was treated at a military facility and her cultures were sent to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and then to a special Defense Department system, The Washington Post reported.

Learn How You Can Make Powerful Herbal Medicines, Right in Your Kitchen!

It is the first time a colistin-resistant bacteria has been found in the United States.

“It basically shows us that the end of the road isn’t very far away for antibiotics — that we may be in a situation where we have patients in our intensive care units, or patients getting urinary-tract infections for which we do not have antibiotics,” CDC Director Tom Frieden told the newspaper. “I’ve been there for TB patients. I’ve cared for patients for whom there are no drugs left. It is a feeling of such horror and helplessness. This is not where we need to be.”

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolfe said his office, the Defense Department, and the CDC are working together to develop an “appropriate” response.

“We are taking the emergence of this resistance gene very seriously,” Wolfe said.

Frieden told the newspaper that the situation is dire because colistin is the antibiotic used against the very worst of bacteria – some of which can kill 50 percent of patients who are infected. The bacteria is known as CRE bacteria.

“This is definitely alarming,” David Hyun, an antibiotic expert at the Pew Charitable Trust, told the newspaper. “The fact that we found it in the United States confirms our suspicions and adds urgency to actions we need to work on antibiotic stewardship and surveillance for this type of resistance.”

Harness The Power Of Nature’s Most Remarkable Healer: Vinegar

You’ll Go Bananas Over This Natural Sleep Remedy!

Click here to view the original post.

SLEEPWe live in a world of constant stimulation: light from laptops and iPhones, noise pollution, and the stress of being so very connected all of the time. As well, insomnia could be caused by environmental influences. Luckily, there are lots of natural remedies, and if you are anything like myself, you have tried all of them. I’ve had success with melatonin, chamomile tea, valerian root, and even just a cup of nice, warm milk. But I’m always happy to add to my sleep remedy arsenal, so when I read about a banana and cinnamon tea meant to help you sleep, it sounded right up my alley.

Making the Natural Sleep-Aid is a Breeze

teaBananas are rich in magnesium and potassium, both components known to aid in sleep, so the science checks out. But was it possible that something so common in a household could be the cure for insomnia? I decided to find out.

The recipe is simple enough. You’ll need:

  1. 1 organic banana with the peel still on
  2. 1 small pot of boiling water
  3. a little dash of cinnamon

The first thing you do is cut off both ends of the banana. Next, put the banana into a pot of boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes to allow the magnesium and potassium to leech into the water. Finally, sprinkle some cinnamon into the water and let it simmer for two additional minutes. Use a slotted spoon to fish the banana out of the water or pour the water through a coffee filter or tea strainer and into a mug. If you’d like to add some sugar or honey, that’s fine too, though remember that sweeteners can spike your blood-sugar levels before bed.

What to Expect When Drinking Banana Tea

On the night I tried the banana tea, I was surprised at how easy it was to make it. It tasted a little bit bitter, but not at all unpleasant. Almost immediately after drinking the tea, I started to feel drowsy. I’m not sure if that was actually the tea at work or if I was just particularly tired, but I slept very soundly. I woke up around 3 AM, which is normal for me, but I was able to go back to sleep rather quickly. When I woke up in the morning, I felt very well rested.

Sometimes with sleep aids like melatonin or Tylenol PM I wake up feeling a little groggy, but that wasn’t the case this time. I think I’ll need to do a few more experiments to see if the banana tea truly works, though I have to say I’m very impressed so far. Since most people have bananas and cinnamon and their homes already, it’s a pretty low-risk option to try. And even the most challenged chefs among us know how to boil water.

Why not give it a chance? Worst-case you’ll get a little dose of potassium and magnesium and you’ll use up some of those old bananas!

How to Preserve Privacy and Personal Space in the Midst of Chaos

Click here to view the original post.

privacy personal space Ask any mom and she’ll tell you that quiet time and privacy are requirements for remaining sane. In a crisis, though, privacy quickly becomes a luxury and very nearly unattainable. Imagine life in a Red Cross shelter, with dozens of strangers sharing a gymnasium, with cots lined up uncomfortably close to each other, and you get the idea.

Personal space and privacy are more important to the human psyche than you might think. Privacy protects our dignity, quiet allows us to get our thoughts and emotions under control, and personal space can provide time for both sides of our brains, the creative and logical, to function. In fact, science tells us that when our personal space is constantly invaded, the amygdala activates and sounds a warning to our subconscious.

That may be why many people find it stressful to be surrounded by crowds for long periods of time. That amygdala doesn’t shut off until quiet, privacy, and personal space have been restored.

Privacy in a crisis

When chaos, fear, and indecision surround us, as in an emergency evacuation, privacy and quiet are imperative for mental health as well as dealing appropriately with the crisis. As you make plans for a possible evacuation or prepping for long term survival in a worst case scenario, include plans for providing quiet spaces and privacy if at all possible.

Along with the mental health angle, consider other practical reasons to include this in your preps:

  • Children of all ages need nap time during the day.
  • Those recovering from an illness or injury require extra rest for their recuperation.
  • A quiet private area can become a makeshift doctor’s office or surgical area. It’s much easier to keep a small area sanitized.
  • Children will still need to learn and a separate quiet area can be turned into a school room.
  • In a large open area, such as a public shelter, a separated space becomes a room within a room, whether it’s a bedroom or just somewhere private for family members to hang out.
  • Daytime sleep area for someone who has been working during the night.
  • A secure area where a family’s belongings can be safely stowed
  • An enclosed area is easier to keep warm during cold days and nights.
  • An area for changing clothes is important for maintaining privacy.

How to provide that private area

The easiest way to have a quiet, private area is a tent or a Privacy Pop. These collapsible structures allow you to set up a quiet, private space anywhere and can also double as a more or less permanent extra bedroom or a study area. Both are lightweight and easy to carry or pack in the trunk of your car.

For a privacy screen, a structure made of PVC pipe is an easy DIY project and requires very little money. In fact, narrow rectangular frames made from PVC pipe and fittings can be lashed together to create a lightweight divider. Sheets, blankets, or even lengths of plastic can be attached to each frame for privacy. When finished, this project can be folded flat and stored under a bed or upright in a closet.

A super easy and ultra budget friendly privacy screen can be created by hanging a curtain rod or a wire across a section of a room or in a doorway. Either drape fabric over the rod or wire or use curtain rings or hooks. This is very inexpensive, and all the supplies can fit in the trunk of a car.

Finally, building a sturdier privacy screen from wood is a DIY project that requires material, a few tools, and the ability to use them. This video provides a simple tutorial:

Necessity, not luxury

Maybe you’re skeptical about taking privacy into consideration with your prepping and survival plans, but maintaining your mental health and staying focused on survival, step-by-step, is difficult enough when conditions are fairly normal. Under highly stressful conditions, a quiet place where you can relax, think, and be alone may be exactly what you need.

A Privacy Pop giveaway!

When Privacy Pop asked if I’d host a giveaway for one of their bed tents, I was thrilled. We own a Privacy Pop and pull it out whenever any member of my family just needs extra quiet time on road trips when togetherness goes into overdrive! Interview With Dan of Future Danger

Prepper Book Festival #12: The Best Books to Help You Prepare, Stay Healthy and Be Happy

Prepper Book Festival 12 | Backdoor Survival

After a short break, it is time to get our mojo in gear for an all-new Prepper Book Festival.  This is #12 and it is, without question, another eclectic mix of books covering a lot of topics.

This did not happen by accident.  Since the beginning, Backdoor Survival Book Festivals have brought you some of the newest and the best titles available to educate you about preparedness and survival.  That being said, it was time to get away from generalist books and focus also on staying healthy and being happy.

Who can argue with that?

Prepper Book Festival 12 | Backdoor Survival

Before we get started, for those of you new to the concept of a book festival, let me give you the basics and answer the question, “What the heck is a prepper book festival?”.

What Is A Prepper Book Festival?

Backdoor Survival Prepper Book Festivals are a showcase of some of the best books and authors in the survival, preparedness, and self-reliance niche. The way Book Festivals work is that more-or-less once a week, I feature mini-reviews and book giveaways coupled with exclusive, one on one author interviews.

To enter each book giveaway, I ask what I hope to be a thought-provoking  question and request that you provide an answer in the comments section of the article.  I have been told that many readers are more interested in the answers to the questions themselves than the book.  I very much applaud that because to be honest, learning from each other is how we will move forward and prevail during these uncertain times.

Just so you know,  I typically provide a way to make multiple giveaway entries so you will want to watch for those bonus opportunities.  Many of these bonus opportunities involve social media.  If you already like Backdoor Survival on Facebook, or follow on Pinterest or Twitter, you basically have some free entries coming.  Email subscribers (don’t worry, that is also free) also get an extra entry that is worth multiple points.

Winners of the book giveaways are selected at random and the winning book is sent out directly by the author or the publisher. The winners have 48 hours to claim their prize or an alternate is selected.  You snooze, you lose.  Many times there are multiple winners, therefore increasing your chance of winning.

Now that you know how it works, let’s get started.  Here is the list of the BDS Prepper Book Festival #12 books and their descriptions.

The Borrowed World: A Novel of Post-Apocalyptic Collapse

In a night of devastating terror, ISIS operatives have unleashed a coordinated attack on America’s infrastructure. Life as we know it in America grinds to a halt as the electrical grid collapses, communication networks are damaged, critical bridges and dams are destroyed, and major fuel refineries go up in massive fiery clouds.

When the government responds by immediately halting fuel sales to the public, Jim Powell finds himself in a terrifying predicament – trapped five hundred miles from home with a group of coworkers. With thousands of trapped travelers and scarce law enforcement, the miles between Jim and his family become a brutal gauntlet where the rules of civilized society no longer apply. As Jim puts his years of preparation and planning to the test, he is forced to ask himself if he has what it takes to make it home.

Does he have the strength — the brutality — required to meet this new world toe-to-toe?

by Franklin Horton

Bonus:  The author is also including Ashes Of The Unspeakable and Legion of Despair in the giveaway.  These are books two and three of The Borrowed World Series.

The Winter Fortress: The Epic Mission to Sabotage Hitler’s Atomic Bomb

It’s 1942 and the Nazis are racing to be the first to build a weapon unlike any known before. They have the physicists, they have the uranium, and now all their plans depend on amassing a single ingredient: heavy water, which is produced in Norway’s Vemork, the lone plant in all the world that makes this rare substance. Under threat of death, Vemork’s engineers push production into overdrive.

For the Allies, the plant must be destroyed. But how would they reach the castle fortress set on a precipitous gorge in one of the coldest, most inhospitable places on Earth?

Based on a trove of top secret documents and never-before-seen diaries and letters of the saboteurs, The Winter Fortress is an arresting chronicle of a brilliant scientist, a band of spies on skies, perilous survival in the wild, sacrifice for one’s country, Gestapo manhunts, soul-crushing setbacks, and a last-minute operation that would end any chance Hitler could obtain the atomic bomb—and alter the course of the war.

Mason Jar Nation: The Jars that Changed America and 50 Clever Ways to Use Them Today

Learn how to make more than 50 Mason jar projects, including luminaries, planters, and upcycled art, in this eagerly anticipated book for DIYers!

Mason Jar Nation begins by exploring the Mason jar’s impact on America since its 1858 patent. Prior to the jar’s invention, settlers had no reliable and safe way to store food for the winter, which required them to travel great lengths in difficult conditions and obtain expensive canned goods in order to survive. With its hermetically sealable two-piece lid and thick glass sides, the Mason jar changed the way mid-nineteenth century Americans fed their families.

Although the popularity of the jars ebbed significantly from the 1950s until the turn of the century, interest in them has exploded in the past few years. Ball, the biggest brand name in Mason jars today, has seen its sales double since 2001. Younger generations, including Millenials, have adopted the iconic jars as emblems of a more sustainable time. The humble Mason jar has been “discovered” as a versatile and beautiful material for creating craft items such as chandeliers, luminaries, planters, containers, and upcycled art.

The second half of Mason Jar Nation features over 50 of these adaptations, shown with clear photography, all designed and photographed by author JoAnn Moser, the “DIY Maven.”

Readers who appreciate American cultural history, making fun and affordable crafts, and Mason jars themselves will love this new book and its tall, narrow shape that’s based on the proportions of the classic Mason jar.

When There Is No FEMA: Survival for Normal People in Very Abnormal Times

This 500+ page book – 3+ years in the making – was written by the author as the reference he would want if his own family’s life depended on it. You could fill an entire bookshelf with survival books, or you could simply obtain “When There is No FEMA” and have a single, textbook-quality reference that provides detailed information on virtually every aspect of modern-day disaster preparedness. Described by one of the foremost survivalists in the world as “encyclopedic”, WTINF covers all the bases.

Where the typical survival book might simply recommend that you “raise chickens for eggs”, WTINF goes into deep detail about all aspects of raising chickens and other small livestock. Rather than simply suggesting you grow vegetables, WTINF covers growing seasons, fertilization and irrigation, how, when and what to plant, how deeply to plant the seeds and how far to space them.

Beyond that, this definitive work provides similar detailed information on water treatment and storage, sanitation, quarantine, food processing, foraging, hunting, trapping and fishing, fuel and energy, nutrition, first aid, weapons and home defense, defensive tactics, disaster planning, disaster communications, organizing entire survival communities and a host of other vital topics.

If you are concerned that the volatile and dangerous world in which we live today may find its way to your own doorstep then this is the book that was written for you!

The Zika Virus Handbook

NY Times bestselling author Joseph Alton, MD provides a doctor’s perspective to the Zika Virus in his newest book.

Zika virus is an infectious disease that has reached pandemic status after crossing the Atlantic. The World Health Organization expects up to four million cases in this hemisphere and researchers have linked Zika to birth deformities in newborns and significant neurological disease. Written in plain English, “The Zika Virus Handbook” explains all you need to know about the epidemic in a calm, no-nonsense fashion.

The book gives a solid plan of action for Zika protection that can be easily followed in a concise guide. All this from a physician that has decades of experience as an obstetrician, and who is a well-known writer on medical preparedness.

The book also outlines other pandemic diseases, past and present, and discusses way to control the Aedes mosquito, which transmits the disease through its bite. Like many pandemic diseases, many controversial theories abound about why Zika has become a threat, and you’ll find these and commentary on their plausibility in “The Zika Virus Handbook”.

Book 8: Alcohol Mantle Lamps (The Non-Electric Lighting Series)

This is Book 8 in The Non-Electric Lighting Series. The series as a whole is aimed at people who want to survive whatever Mother Nature throws at us – blizzards, blackouts, or Carrington events.

Unfortunately, when we get to “alcohol lamps,” the term conjures up a vision of a lab-type lamp with a small wick and almost invisible flame. Alcohol MANTLE lamps, the subject of this book, are a different animal altogether. Lanterns that use mantles produce light on par with electric light bulbs.

As a lamp fuel, alcohol has some advantages over petroleum-based fuels.

For one thing, alcohol does not degrade in storage. For another, alcohol produces less carbon monoxide than a petroleum-based fuel (ANY petroleum-based fuel) making it a better choice for indoor use. Third, in an emergency situation, alcohol (as lamp fuel) can supply a solution that most people are not aware even exists. You can pick up some rubbing alcohol while they are searching for propane cylinders. (Although you do need the appropriate lantern, of course. You cannot just dump alcohol in your Coleman and burn it.)

Lastly, alcohol is perhaps the ultimate survival fuel. In Europe, World War Two saw many restrictions on petroleum products. So farmers made what was essentially high-proof moonshine and burned it in their lanterns.

This information in this book is something you should have tucked away for future reference. Are you interested in prepping? This is prepping.

Bonus:  The giveaway will be for all eight books in the Non-Electric Lighting Series

Preppers Armed Defense

A comprehensive guide to gun options as well as non-lethal and homemade alternatives needed for neutralizing attackers after a catastrophic collapse

A massive disaster strikes. Civilization breaks down and with it goes the thin blue line of police protection. Days or even weeks pass before the National Guard arrives to protect law-abiding citizens. In the mean time, it’s every man, woman, and family for themselves. Having self-sufficient means for protecting your family at this critical moment is essential. Thankfully, Prepper’s Armed Defense details exactly how to achieve this high level of life-saving readiness.

Far more than a gun guide, Prepper’s Armed Defense is the most comprehensive, no-holds-barred guide to all type of weapons, including knives and other edged weapons; non-lethal weapons like pepper spray, tasers and stun guns; plus last-minute improvised weapons made from common household items.

Among the weapons covered:

Firearms
Knives
Brass knuckles
Bows
Blackjack and sap
Monkey fist slingshots
Clubs and batons
Tonka and other martial arts weapons

The legalities of self-defense are also discussed as not all encounters will take place after a societal collapse. From the proper way to relate the information to a police dispatcher to when you should call an attorney, the focus is on ensuring you don’t end up behind bars for protecting your loved ones.

Prepper’s Armed Defense is your guide to inflicting the maximum amount of damage to those who would harm you and your family.

The Final Word

Two month’s ago, as I was putting this together, I started to think “who needs another book covering preparedness basics?”  Along those lines I was thinking it was time to pack the book festival concept away and begin anew with something fresh.  As luck would have it, I reached out to some of my friends in the publishing world who convinced me to keep going and offered up some new titles for consideration.

Armed with author, publisher, and reader suggestions, I was able to cobble together one of the best prepper book collections yet, with enough diversity to keep you interested not only in the books themselves, but with what the authors have to say about their work and their personal preparedness efforts.

Over the next few months, I hope I can come up with some thought-provoking giveaway questions that will challenge and inspire you to take your preps to the next level.  If you have a question you would like answered by your fellow preppers, be sure to let me know.  The next step is up to you.

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!
