Do you have a problem with lying?

Well, if you don’t, you’re among the 10 percent who don’t struggle with this!

A quick glance at research revealed that nine out of 10 people learn to lie—and lie well—by the time they are four. One study done by the University of Massachusetts in 2002 showed that nearly 60 percent of adults can’t go 10 minutes without lying. Crazy!

As we approach the Ninth Commandment — “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16) — it is worth breaking down the various types of lies we participate in from time to time.

  • Straight-out lying: You know, the type of lie you tell to get yourself out of a messy situation.
  • Twisted-half-truth lying: You say something that’s mostly true but then clarify it in a way as to mislead.
  • Exaggerating-the-truth lying: You inflate your weaknesses, strengths, failures and successes to make yourself or your situation look or sound better.
  • Not-owning-the-truth lying: You “explain” why you didn’t get your job done at work, or why your homework wasn’t complete on time.
  • Avoiding-the-truth-or-confrontation lying: Maybe you don’t tell your employee why you’re really firing him or her. Basically, you deny or withhold the truth to someone who has the right or need to hear it.

A couple of observations…

First, it’s interesting that the Ninth Commandment comes one spot away from the end of the Ten Commandments.

Lying is the way that we go about breaking the other commandments. If you commit adultery, you attempt to lie about it. If you steal something, you attempt to change the facts about your part. Like a kind of superglue, lying brings together all other sin. Satan, who is the father of all lies (John 8:44), intertwines you in a mesh of lies and gets you in a situation where you feel like you literally can’t repent—so you lie.

Second, notice the commandment reads, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

The prohibition is against misrepresenting the truth as to hurt your neighbor. One focus is on the truth and the other is on the good of your neighbor.

Christian Heroes For Christian Kids: These CDs Are Putting God Back Into History!

Ask yourself, “Are my words true? Are my words a blessing to those around me?”

What does God say about lying?

It is worth quoting, at length, the verses below to answer this question.

Psalm 5:6: “You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.”

Proverbs 12:2: “A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but a man of evil devices he condemns.”

Revelation 21:8: “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

God is truth (John 17:3). He is light (John 9:5). His entire universe, that He created, is founded upon truth. When we speak falsely, we contradict God’s nature and character, unraveling his whole creation which is built on divine integrity.

Why do we lie and what can we do about it?

The Ninth Commandment: Can You Handle The Truth?

Not telling the truth comes from a deep insecurity we all possess in this sin-filled life. Think of Adam and Eve who lied to God after eating the forbidden fruit (Gen. 3-4). Naked as they were, both felt they had lost the security and satisfaction of their relationship with God.

Or, what about Jacob? You may recall that he stole his brother Esau’s birthright by deceiving his father, Isaac, into believing that he was his brother.

Why did he do this? He didn’t believe God’s nature and promise! He didn’t believe in God’s blessing. He really just wanted his father’s blessings—not God’s. Jacob was so insecure before God that didn’t trust the goodness and sovereignty of God in his life. Thus, he doesn’t tell the truth to protect his own skin.

What do we do to overcome this insecurity in our hearts that leads to lying? We must, like the numerous honest confessions in the book of Psalms, restore a true sense of God’s security to our hearts (Psalm 16:9; 18:33, etc.).

And how do you do that? With the Gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-8)!

In the death-instrument that is the Roman cross, God the Father has the means of taking care of our greatest need—salvation in Christ alone—and the will to do it on all levels. Friend, the security we really, really need to overcome not telling the truth is believing what God has said about us (we are His alone!) and promised us (His Son, the God-man, Jesus Christ!).

Indeed, when you have found refuge only in Him, you won’t need to wear a mask before God or anyone.

How does this apply to you further?

There are certainly many avenues of application beyond the space of this article, but here are three fresh on this author’s mind.

First, we must always tell the truth, but that doesn’t mean we have to say everything all the time just because someone asks. Gossip is the chariot on which the devil rides. You should be more upset by your own gossip about another than you are about another’s gossip about you. Gossip is a sinister sin because it charades as “well-concern” and “truth-finding.” However, gossip is as evil as the sin it claims to snuff out (Romans 1:29-32).

Second, ask yourself: “Is your disgrace lying to you about God being the final judge?” Anyone who says, “I don’t care what anyone thinks” is either lying or crazy — and often both. Remind yourself that the most compelling people are those who’ve gotten past the need to be compelling. They just tell the (Gospel) truth with love and boldness, and that’s compelling. Remember that Galatians 4:16 reminds us that you can’t make everybody happy. But if you tell the truth, you especially won’t make everybody happy.

Third, thank the Lord if you have a pastor or spiritual leader who tells you biblical truth. The work of the pastor is to tell the truth and to expose the lies. The most loving thing we can do is tell the truth so people can be reconciled to God. Be slow to speak and quick to pray. And praise God for those in your life who do this!

Are you a pipeline or a lake? Are you just a channel of truth to others, or a Gospel pond, deep and overflowing?

Patriots’ Prayers for 1-29-2017

Click here to view the original post.

What is wrong with America goes well beyond politics & economics. It is a spiritual sickness which infects the USA. No politician, no election, no piece of legislation, will cure spiritual sickness. We must appeal to a Higher Authority for that kind of healing. Please join together, praying for America.

Confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ

We confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ over every aspect of our lives and our nation. Help us, as individuals and as a nation, to accept and live according to Your will in all things. Amen.

A Healing Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, thank you for Your enduring love. A love so great that You sent Your only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Jesus died a violent death to pay the penalty for our sins, to free us from the powers of darkness. On the third day, He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at Your right hand.

As individuals, we are all sinners. As a people, as a nation, we also have sinned and turned away from You. As a nation, we have replaced the authority and perfection of Your Word with the whim of our own opinions for our standards of right and wrong. We no longer keep Your commandments, or follow Your teachings.

We come before You now to place all our sins upon the cross of Jesus, and ask to be washed clean by His precious blood. Forgive us, and help us to turn back to You as our Lord, our Standard, our Authority. We confess Your lordship over every aspect of our lives and our nation. Help us to turn back to You, and follow Your ways once again.

In the Name of our Savior, Jesus the Christ, we pray.  Amen.

Sunday Prepper Bible Study-The Folly of Fools

Click here to view the original post.

Rueters

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.  Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Proverbs 26:4-5

Aha! There’s that contradictory passage all of your atheist friends have been badgering you about for the last ten years! Or is it?

Massive demonstrations are going on at JFK and all across America over President Trump’s fulfillment of his campaign promise to close the borders to refugees and immigrants from terrorist hotbeds. The protests come on the heels of the THREE HOUR rape of a Swedish girl by Muslim immigrants which was live streamed on the social media network of self-proclaimed fake-news czar Mark Zuckerburg. The Islamic devotees, whose religion sanctions such actions against unbelievers, kept the camera feeding live to Fakebook during the young woman’s horrifying ordeal.

Swedens open-door policy to Muslims has made it the rape capital of the world where 77% of the rapes are committed by Muslim males who make up approximately 2% of the population. Rape by Muslim men is an epidemic, not only in Sweden but also in Germany and all across Europe.

Despite these sobering statistics, the crowds of protestors are filled with young attractive women, who are at risk of being the next victims humiliated on Facebook for the world to see.

So how does all of this prove that today’s Bible verse isn’t a contradiction? Try having a conversation with one of these protestors. It’s your job to enlighten them, right? Since you understand that Islamic culture isn’t compatible with Americanism, you need to explain to them how every country where Muslims are in the majority, women are oppressed, Bibles are illegal, and unbelievers are subject to rape, imprisonment, harassment, torture, and execution. And please, let me know how that conversation turns out.

The bottom line, as today’s verse suggests, you can’t win. If you try to help them understand, you’ll end up engaging in a conversation with a fool that goes nowhere. And if you say nothing, then you’re allowing them to go on thinking that they’re right. It’s the epitome of the old saying, “you’re danged if you do and danged if you don’t.” So, the verses aren’t actually the fabled contradiction that proves God’s Word can’t be true. It’s simply Solomon’s perfect example of the futility and frustration you can expect when you have to engage with fools.

Jesus said, “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war, or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed day and happy prepping!

Guardline GS-5000 Motion Detection Security System / APN Product Review

Click here to view the original post.

Imagine a line of pickets that can pick up the approach of anything heading your way. That’s exactly what you have with the Guardline GL-5000 Motion Detecting Alarm System. This is a security system that is well worth it.

This product review was a walk in the park… actually a walk around the yard, testing the effective range of this rugged & versatile motion detector & programmable alarm system. The radio transponder motion detecting sensors easily covered the furthest reaches of my property, sending notice when movement was detected.

https://www.guardlinesecurity.com/apn
BUY NOW & SAVE 10% with coupon “APN”

Guardline,  a major name in home security systems, has answered the call for a motion detector system with greater range & greater expandability, & has done so in a practical, affordable way.

Operating in the UHF 900 Mhz. radio band, Guardline’s sensors lie in wait to detect movement. Each censor able to be set up with different sensitivity, detected rate of movement, as well as scheduled time of operation. You can configure each one to match it’s location & need of coverage. With up to quarter mile range to the receiver, a sensor can alert you of movement, several minutes before anything could come close.

Made of high impact ABS Plastic in flat OD Green color, each sealed, battery powered sensor, blends into an outdoor setting & operates undetected day & night. The sensor comes with mounting screws for walls & fence posts, but I found it handy to use tie-straps for temporary mounting. The sensors weigh not much more than the 4 AA batteries it holds, so deploying these sensors tactically is a not a problem at all.

But here’s where the GL-5000 stands apart. The central receiver is programmable, with 4 monitoring zones, each able to monitor 4 separate sensors. That means you can deploy up to 16 sensors, & the receiver can keep track of each one.  You can assign each sensor it’s own unique alert tone, so just by the sound you hear, you can know in an instant exactly where movement has been detected.

I noted several “choke-points” where anyone coming onto my property would have to pass. It was easy to install a sensor at each spot & give full coverage of the area. The furthest sensor was deep in the woods150 yards away. It was picked up by the desktop receiver.  I even went all out and walked way out off my property, to the end of the road over a block away, it still was received.  The Guardline GL-5000 is ideal for long range motion detection capability. And with batteries supplying power to the sensors, the system makes for great temporary deployed perimeter security.

My one hitch in the review was all by my doing. The sensor’s case is held together by four small brass screws, and I of course promptly dropped one as soon as I went to put batteries in the unit. I quickly found the dropped screw, but word to the wise, be careful with opening the sensors.

The number of batteries you invest in may be a burden if you have as many sensors the GL-5000 can handle…(16 units x 4 AA batteries each = 64 batteries), but rechargeable batteries are available which can minimize the burden. And if you’re like me, a solar powered charging system can easily be put together which can keep things topped off indefinitely. The upside is how the sensors can be programmed to “sleep” for set periods of the day or night, cutting down on battery use. The GL-5000 doesn’t come with connections to a computer or internet, however that’s another thing a whiz-kid tinkerer could figure out.

That all said, if you’re looking for a reliable, expandable & affordable way to guard for intruders Guardline’s GL-5000 system is more than capable. For Home Security I give it a big Thumb’s Up!

UPDATE: We don’t often offer product specials, but Guardline is offering 10%OFF on purchasing their products through this review. Use Coupon code “APN”.
Offer expires Feb. 28th. 2017.

7 Little-Noticed Ways to Use Tree Bark for Survival

By  Ashley Hetrick – Off The Grid News

If you find yourself in a survival situation in the woods, you’re basically standing in a goldmine of potential resources, all of which are literally at your fingertips along the trunks of nearby trees. Knowing just how versatile tree bark can be might just save your life.

1. Cordage

Tree bark, specifically long strips of inner bark, can be wrapped or braided together to create durable and flexible cordage quickly. Simply cut away the flaky outer bark from a section of the tree, and then begin to peel the inner bark away in long strips. Don’t remove more than one-fourth of the bark around the tree, or the tree might not be able to survive. Longer cuts top to bottom are better than wider cuts going further around the tree.

Good tree species to try include cedar, aspen, basswood/linden, maple or willow.

5 Home Remedies That Kept Our Ancestors Healthy Year-Round

5 Home Remedies That Kept Our Ancestors Healthy Year-Round

The story of America in the 1700s and 1800s includes immigrants and settlers who came here from all over the world, bringing their traditional clothing, ideas, inventions, food, and, of course, their home remedies.

Immigrants tend to get absorbed into the fabric of America, which means that their home remedies can sometimes get lost in the shuffle.

Today, we are going to take a look at five nearly forgotten home remedies that our ancestors consumed to stay healthy before they had access to doctors, prescription medications or vaccinations.

1. Garlic and onions

While some ideas fall by the wayside (such as placing a cut onion in the room to “absorb” viruses) others stick around because they really work. One such remedy was a big plate of fried onion and garlic. The substances in these foods have been proven by today’s scientific studies to contain anti-viral and anti-microbial compounds, which can not only help to shorten the duration of a cold or flu, but can keep you healthy and prevent you from becoming sick.

2. Honey and lemon

While we still use this, we have acquired different reasons for using it. Today, we think of honey and lemon — usually put in tea – as a way to relieve coughs, sore throats, and stuffy noses. It does a great job in this area, but for our ancestors; they used honey and lemon to stop allergy symptoms of hay fever.

Learn How To Make Powerful Herbal Medicines, Right in Your Kitchen!

Since you would naturally purchase honey that came from local bees, which used local flowering plants, it only makes sense that consuming a tablespoon of it would eventually provide your body with an immune reaction. I actually did try this on my husband and I have to say that it works remarkably well! Rather than taking an anti-allergy pill every day during the spring and fall, he now only takes one two or three times a year.

3. Jacob’s ladder

These beautiful plants, with their blue/purple flowers, were sometimes called Greek Valerian. While this plant used to be a staple in the 1800s, it is almost unheard of today. (Even though the alternative name has the word “valerian” in it, this plant is actually no relation to the valerian we use today.) Our ancestors used this plant, generally in a tea form using the flowers, to help prevent what our forefathers would call “nervous complaints.” This has been used for everything from headaches to heart palpitations and “women’s hysteria.” To our ancestors, women’s hysteria was just about any complaint a woman might have, such as mood swings, cramps or hot flashes.

4. Ginger

Like honey and lemon, ginger was often used for something else other than what we use it for today. While our ancestors realized that ginger could help with nausea, many consumed ginger (either chewing pieces of it or drinking it as a tea) to help prevent them from becoming chilled, and therefore susceptible to illness, or to prevent colic and indigestion.

5. Lady’s slipper

Lady’s slipper is a beautiful flowering plant related to orchids. Sometimes called moccasin flower or Venus shoe, this plant was very well-known to the Native people of North America, who used it as a preventative and curative for intestinal worms. While in this modern era intestinal worms are almost unheard of, these parasites used to be very, very common. Flowers were made into a tea that was drunk regularly to prevent worm infestation. The dried and then remoistened root was also used by several tribes to stop skin irritations and even to stop toothache pain.

Prep Blog Review: Are You Prepared For An EMP Attack?

As we all know, the U.S. power grid is in danger and one thing is for sure: when the power will go out, the economy, the defense infrastructure and more than that, our own safety and health will go down. The U.S. Government

In this situation, the only thing we can do is to prepare for that moment when the lights go down rather than wait and see what happens in the aftermath.

That’s why, for this week’s prep blog review I’ve gathered 5 useful articles for some off-grid scenarios.

  1. Gov’t Reports Warns: Power Grid In ‘Imminent Danger’

blackout-doe-report

“ The U.S. power grid is in constant danger of a cyberattack that could cause widespread blackouts and impact millions of citizens, according to a new 492-page report from the Department of Energy that warns if nothing is done to protect the system, the nation likely will suffer.

“The U.S. grid faces imminent danger from cyberattacks,” the report, released Jan. 6, states. “Widespread disruption of electric service because of a transmission failure initiated by a cyberattack at various points of entry could undermine U.S. lifeline networks, critical defense infrastructure, and much of the economy; it could also endanger the health and safety of millions of citizens.”

The report, titled “Transforming the Nation’s Energy System,” notes that the electric grid in the 48 contiguous states is comprised of 21,500 substations and about 700,000 miles of power lines.”

  1. How to Protect Your Power System Against an EMP

electromagnetic-pulse“Hello my friend and welcome back! I received a letter from one of my readers who goes by the name of Dan.  What he wants to know is how he can protect his wind turbine and solar panels, as well as his electronics, from an EMP or another Carrington Event CME.  He also wants to know how deep his underground shelter needs to be to protect what he has there.  WOW!  That was a mouth full.  This is the subject of today’s post, so grab a cup of coffee my friend and have a seat while we visit.”

  1. Living Off the Grid with Solar

“The moment you go off-grid, you rely entirely on a system that generates electrical energy and utilizes the same to support all your electrical solarappliances, either at home or on a business premise. For your system to be exclusively off-grid, it must have absolutely no link to the utility grid.

Going off-grid is possible, practical and beneficial to you in many ways. You will not have to pay utility bills and in the long run, you will save money! Other motivations include: environmental concerns and endeavoring to only use renewable energy; energy independence, you won’t have to rely on the blackout-prone utility; social values, which mean taking responsibility for your energy consumption effects; costs, when the distance to the grid is too big, your decision to go off grid becomes a lot cheaper.”

  1. 7 Ways to Generate Power After a Disaster

7-ways-you-can-generate-power-after-a-disaster-wide-2

“Whether it’s a nuclear holocaust, a deadly plague, the perfect storm, or a large-scale terrorist attack, when a cataclysmic event goes down you can guarantee one thing: the power will go out. And while you don’t need electricity to be a hunter-gatherer for the rest of your life, if you want to help return human society to its former greatness—or just be able to have a James Bond movie marathon again—you’ll have to figure out how to generate your own power.”

  1. 15 Things You Think You Know About Faraday Cages But You Don’t

EMP

“This article takes into consideration only the effects of a nuclear EMP, not a solar flare. A solar flare would only affect any electronics connected to the grid.

Will a microwave work as a Faraday cage?

No. If an EMP strikes, you will notice that all your electronic devices that you stored in a microwave oven will be rendered useless. The microwave is not a Faraday cage.

Will a refrigerator work as a Faraday cage?

No, most refrigerators do not work as a Faraday cage. I tested mine, and it’s definitely not a Faraday cage.”

Be Prepared with the Archeer Jump Starter | Backdoor Survival

Most of the time when a vehicle will not start, it is due to a dead battery. This can happen at any time and it seems that the newer the car, the more likely this can happen. I know this from experience. We have a fairly new Subaru and unbeknownst to us, the battery stayed “hot” with the key in the ignition but turned to the off position. Until we figured this out, we had a vehicle that would not start at the most inopportune times.

As annoying as this situation can be, it is even more so in the winter months, when being stranded in a cold vehicle while waiting for help to arrive can be miserable. Today I present a solution, the Archeer Car Jump Starter & External Battery Emergency Kit. The compact device will not only jump start your battery but will also serve as a battery pack to charge your phone or tablet while on the go. This great little unit is compact and portable and I have one up for grabs in the latest Backdoor Survival giveaway.
