Equifax Data Breach — How Tell If They Got Your Info — 5 FREE Tools Of Protection Even If You Weren’t Breached

stock here—-update—I did sign up for all 5 free services, but did not receive the confirmation email yet, probably millions are signing up
————————————————————————
I have been pondering if I need to take action after 143 million accounts were hacked.
And I found out how to find out if my data was hacked
Equifax appears to be performing in a stand up way, offering free services to people for 1 year, even if you weren’t hacked.

Yesterday they told me my data was not breached, today when signing up for the 5 free products, they
told me I may have been impacted.    At the bottom here, I added their “Terms of Use”.   You get the 5 free products as package deal, no ala carte options exist.   One is a credit lock, annoying if you actually are applying for a loan or credit.

They are offering 5 free services.   What is weird though is that they give you a future enrollment date, for me it is tomorrow.  Although they state you can enroll anytime between that date and Nov 27, 2017.   So I have to log back in tomorrow (or after).

A Progress Update for Consumers

September 8, 2017
We understand that some consumers are experiencing difficulties getting the answers and support they need through our website and call center. Ramping up the website and call center to handle the anticipated volume is ongoing and we are focused on making improvements as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this process has created.
Thus far today, we’ve made the following adjustments:
1) You Can Determine Your Status Immediately
Some consumers who visited the website soon after its launch failed to receive confirmation clarifying whether or not they were potentially impacted. That issue is now resolved, and we encourage those consumers to revisit the site to receive a response that clarifies their status.
2) No Waiver Of Rights For This Cyber Security Incident
In response to consumer inquiries, we have made it clear that the arbitration clause and class action waiver included in the Equifax and TrustedID Premier terms of use does not apply to this cybersecurity incident.
3) Expanded Our Call Center
We have tripled our call center team to over 2000 agents and continue to add agents.
Our goal is to make this process as convenient and consistent as possible. We will continue to identify steps to improve this process.
And we will continue as well to listen to your comments and suggestions.
———————————————————————————————

They are offering
1) Equifax Credit Report
2) Equifax Credit Report Lock
3) $1M Identity Theft Insurance
4) 3 Bureau Credit File Monitoring
5) Social Security Number Monitoring
Go here and check if you were hacked

Then go to the Enroll in blue near the top, they will take you to screen and give a date you can first enroll. I guess they had so many people trying to enroll at once that it overloaded their systems so they are trying to spread it out.

There have been recent public reports from Equifax, a major provider of various consumer credit services such as consumer credit reports and fraud monitoring, that personally identifiable information of 143 million U.S. consumers may have been accessed as a result of a confirmed major data breach. Data exposed reportedly included names, birth dates, social security numbers, physical addresses and, in some cases, driver’s license numbers. Credit card numbers for around 209,000 US consumers were also reportedly accessed.

PS They told me that I was not hacked (yesterday, but today they said I was hacked)

CREDIT MONITORING PRODUCTS AND PRODUCT FEATURES. When offered or included as part of Our Products, “Credit Monitoring” monitors Your consumer credit files maintained by one or more of the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies, depending on the type of Product You have purchased (e.g, single bureau monitoring, tri-bureau monitoring, etc.). In each case the credit file or files that are monitored on Your behalf are separately owned and/or maintained by one or more of the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies: EIS, TransUnion LLC, and Experian. Credit Monitoring will not advise You if an item of identifying information is contained in the credit file of another person and in no event will Credit Monitoring ever monitor, compare or cross-reference Your credit file(s) with the credit file(s) of another person, nor will it ever provide You with any information contained in another person’s credit file(s).

Your credit monitoring alerts from EIS will usually begin on the day you enroll in an applicable Product. If Your Product also includes credit monitoring from Transunion LLC and Experian, the credit monitoring of credit files at those consumer reporting agencies may take several days to begin.

CREDIT REPORT CONTROL. Certain Products contain Equifax Credit Report Control (also known as Equifax Credit File Lock). Locking Your Equifax credit report with Equifax Credit Report Control will prevent access to Your Equifax credit report by certain third parties, such as credit grantors or other companies and agencies. Credit Report Control will not prevent access to Your credit report at any other consumer reporting agency, and will not prevent access to Your Equifax credit report by companies like TrustedID, Inc. which provide You with access to your credit report or credit score or monitor your credit file; Federal, state and local government agencies; companies reviewing your application for employment; companies that have a current account or relationship with You, and collection agencies acting on behalf of those whom You owe; for fraud detection and prevention purposes; and companies that wish to make pre-approved offers of credit or insurance to You. To opt out of such pre-approved offers, visit www.optoutprescreen.com. Locking and unlocking Your Equifax credit report may take up to 48 hours. Locking and unlocking your Equifax credit report may also not be available during certain hours every night. When Your subscription is no longer active, Your Equifax credit report will be automatically unlocked.

There is no fee, however, if you have been turned down for credit, employment, insurance, or a rental dwelling because of information in your credit file within the preceding 60 days. The consumer reporting agency must provide someone to help you interpret the information in your credit file. You are entitled to receive a free copy of your consumer disclosure if you are unemployed and intend to apply for employment in the next 60 days, if you are a recipient of public welfare assistance, or if you have reason to believe that there is inaccurate information in your credit report due to fraud. For more information You may also contact the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) by calling the FTC toll free – 1-877-FTC-HELP or visit their website: www.ftc.gov. In addition, the states of MA, VT, CO, NJ, MD and ME permit consumers to obtain one credit report per consumer reporting agency per year, free of charge and the state of GA permits consumers to obtain two credit reports per consumer reporting agency per year, free of charge.
