How a Pergola Can be Used to Protect Different Things Sometimes we may want to relax in the yard, sipping on a cool beverage while enjoying the breeze while staying protected from too much sun. A pergola can provide an excellent location to experience this. This is an outdoor structure made up of columns which …

Thoughts For The Week.

“What you do in your lifetime will echo down through eternity”,
Marcus Aurelius

For the last two weeks our NBN, (No Bloody Network) has been causing us immense disruptions to our normal business. Apparently, it has affected our whole area. We only went to NBN due to the threat that if we did not we would be cut off from our service that we had enjoyed at these premises since 1986, so September 2017 was when we had a month of problems at its inception and now again it has reared its head.

What makes it worse, our old Australian suppliers, betrayed us and sold out to a company that runs its technical support from somewhere near India. Every day we get another different Indian expert that want to re configure our computers and fix the problem, due to English not being their first language communications are confused. Each expert is unaware of the changes that were made on the previous day and adds to the confusion. The Telecommunications Ombudsman has not helped, Telstra say they can help, but as they are having problems in the area with NBN they say we have to wait 10 weeks.

So we have a new Mobile Number 0427 943 677,

Please call, 07 54 825070 this number is still working,

07 54824099 has been diverted to the Mobile number.

Our Internet and Email owenguns@spiderweb.com.au is working, but

Our Fax line 0754824718 is Not working.

This has caused immense problems for PTA’s (Permits To Aquire) and exposed another problem with our firearm legislation and the police policy that they additionally impose on us.

Immediately we knew that the Fax machine had stopped we contacted Weapons Licencing and asked them to stop sending faxed copies of Permits to Acquire we asked them to hold them until we have it working again. A few days later I phoned Weapons Licencing again and asked them to email the PTAs as attachments, in .pdf or any other format, they refused.

As that refusal affects all licenced shooter in the State of Queensland. Here below is a report and request for action to my local Member of the House of Representatives Mr Tony Perrett.

“Dear Tony

On behalf of our long patient customers that have been waiting for PTA Permits To Acquire, could you please direct a question in the house to the Police Minister,

As you are aware the time taken for Weapons Licensing to issue the Permits to Acquire is in most cases many weeks, sometimes many months, their phone robots when answering enquires tells people not to phone them for 12 weeks as they are busy.

For people who have to wait 28 days cooling off period after they have already waited 28 days extended to six months waiting for QPS to process their card its intolerable, but its takes many weeks longer than this in most cases. For those who already have a firearm on there licence the regulations state “the period is the remainder of the day on which the applicant lodged the application” This leaves Weapons Licensing in breach of the Act and Regulations and if this was a dealer and they did not process their information back to QPS on time they would charge us.

Weapons Licensing to attempt to process this disaster a little quicker have over the last few years taken to faxing the PTA forms to the Gun Shops.

Due to the un reliability of NBN and phone lines in general sometime they do not arrive. Weapons Licensing have in the past refused to send them again, and even local Policemen have been forced to re apply and send the money again.

Since last Monday this area (Gympie) has had a huge problem with NBN and the Fax is the first to fail. It became so intermittent and haphazard we asked Weapons licensing to stop faxing PTAs. On Monday (last) Weapons Licensing emailed an attachment with a letter Authorising them to release 15 firearms to a Customer. We complied with this and today with customers asking if we had their PTAs, I phoned Weapons Licensing and spoke to Steve, I asked him, as we have no NBN fax could you please email the PTA s as an attachment, he refused and I asked who was in charge He said AP Guild Inspector, I asked to speak to him he said that was not possible, but that they would not email the attachments . So I asked him to post all of them out as the fax is not reliable.

Weapons Act 1990

Section 39

(4)A permit to acquire must—

(a)be issued in the approved form for a single weapon; and

The Attachments for Email can do this just as good as a fax.

I have included This section of the Weapons Act so that you can see that for most people there should be no waiting period they should be emailed out on the remainder of the day the application is lodged. They (Weapons Licencing) are in breach of the Weapons Act 1990 and should be charged.

101 Waiting period for decision on application for permit to acquire

(1)This section prescribes the period for section 42 of the Act .

(2)The period is 28 days after the day the applicant lodged the application for the permit to acquire the weapon.

(3)However, the period is the remainder of the day on which the applicant lodged the application for the permit, if—

(a)the applicant already holds a firearm under a licence; or

(b)an authorised officer is satisfied there are exceptional circumstances.

Could you please ask the Minister why this has not happened as yet.

Your Ron Owen JP (Qual)

Please phone 07 54 825070 if you need any further information.

Ron”

Prep for Hard Times: Why You Need an Offline Side-Gig Business Now!

Click here to view the original post.

This is a guest post by Dare Tuitt

Are you earning enough money to pay for all your prepping needs?

Do you have enough money in your cash stash for a bug-out?

Do you have a mountain of debt that holds you back from (fill in the blank)?

Almost everyone I know needs more money to accomplish what they have to do, whether it be to pay for prepping items, pay down personal debt, purchase that getaway land in the American Redoubt areas or simply pay their monthly living expenses. With the escalating financial and political situation looking like it’s heating up as we head into the Mid-term elections, overcoming debt, getting personal finances in order and paying for those extra survival products should now be a priority.

To solve your personal cash crunch, you need a way to make some money as quickly as possible and I advise you do this offline as soon as possible. One of the fastest and easiest ways to earn extra money is by staring a part-time side-gig business.

Further Reading – Position Yourself for Financial SHTF – Practical Steps for Paying Down Debt and Saving Money!

Start a Side-Gig Business Now!

Why am I advising you start an offline business ASAP? Because the recent (and as of the date of this writing, ongoing) rollercoaster ride of the stock market may just be going through the start of a slow-motion tailspin, the effects of which will catch up to all of us in due time, as it ripples through the world economy. Also, the cost of living is not going down! Contrary to the good news about American energy independence due to vastly increased output from less regulation (thank you President Trump!) gasoline and other energy prices still tend to rise and fall based on demand and here in the USA we see them rise ahead of active travel days, like national holidays and due to seasonal weather variations in use. The cost of food is also not going down and there are seasonal price increases every winter just to get the food delivered by semi-trailer trucks and drivers working in extreme winter weather conditions. These are all good examples of reasons why you need an offline side gig business ASAP, to help you get more money NOW. But the real reason why is only beginning to be seen as politics plays an ever-increasing and unwelcome role in our personal economic lives.

Since 9/11, we have seen how technology has been used by the government to consolidate and control citizens. Our own NSA and Homeland Security have been given enormous powers of surveillance. Media of all kinds has also got on board and during the Obama years, we saw more of an unholy alliance begin to form between online Social Media corporations and government, specifically, Left-leaning governments. We see news reports about how, without much of a fight, Facebook, Google, YouTube, Twitter, ( all American-based corporations), have abandoned the rights guaranteed people under the American Constitution, when communist/socialist countries have made it a condition to limit their own citizen’s access to information provided by these online companies. They compromised free and open speech, in order to acquire access to new markets and/or acquire more market share in those respective nations. They sold out their “ideals” for market share.

More ominously here at home, Conservative and Christian Americans are under increasing unfair scrutiny, by social media “review committees” and “speech algorithm scrutiny”, the results of which are stripping out the so-called “objectionable” content in favor of a socially-engineered, exclusive Left-leaning content. The result is the elimination of Christian and Conservative viewpoints from the Internet, with the result (perhaps the intent?) of driving them out of business or greatly reducing their influence. This stuff seems straight out of George Orwell’s 1984, and it’s not going away.

The New World Order Doesn’t Like Your Privacy

New Internet-based technologies being brought to the market involve using your personal data, captured by social media with every keystroke you make on your computer. This information is being used to develop predictive models that ultimately could be used by a hostile government to determine what your political and religious beliefs are, and then treat you accordingly. When coupled with home electricity Smart Meters (now mandated nearly everywhere), automobile tracking devices, electronic surveillance via street cams, Smartphones, and in every HDTV, police and other government agencies can conceivably monitor your life both inside and outside your home 24/7/365. If this doesn’t bother you, it should. In 2018, we may see emerge the beginnings of an even greater Matrix of censorship, control and surveillance over our lives in ways we couldn’t even imagine just 3 years ago. There is research going on right now to weaponize our data using “predictive models” to determine if we are thinking “wrong” for the purposes of stopping crimes before they happen. What if this technology is used on political dissidents?

Once these control mechanisms are established, how long before the Mark of the Beast emerges? How will you earn money if you refuse the that Mark, without which you will not be allowed to “buy or sell?” (Revelation 13:16-17). Since people in the First World are already conditioned to just give away their personal information along with their freedoms and sense of privacy, Spielberg’s Minority Report doesn’t seem so far-fetched.

Having an Internet-based business is fine so far as it goes, but what would you do if “they” make it impossible for you to earn a living online based on your political and religious affiliations? If you do all your business online, what would you do if there’s a crash of the Internet system or a major security breach that steals your online proprietary information or your banking passwords? What can you do if North Korea or Iran attacks the USA with an EMP?

This is why you need an offline business and you need to start it now. You need to earn extra money now, to get yourself and your family more secure, but most importantly, you need a way to earn some income if these other avenues are denied you.

What is a Good Offline Business?

Having a skill you can do that you can earn an income or barter with is a good place to start.

Can you grow things? Are you a master gardener? Grow vegetables and sell them at the local Farmer’s Market. Grow heirloom varieties of vegetables. Consume some, preserve some by canning, and save the seeds to sell them. People pay money for quality heirloom vegetable seeds. This could be a nice side business.

Can you fix things? Appliance repair, home “honey do” projects, car repair are all great skills to have to start a business. Any of these skills can be used to barter for other goods and services.

Find a skill related to something you enjoy doing, such as hunting. Learning how to process game meat is related to hunting, and can be turned into an offline business. Many people enjoy hunting and fishing, but hate processing the meat! Many fishing charter businesses include gutting and processing what their customers catch, for an extra fee. Perhaps you could set up a booth nearby and offer the same service to charter boat captains for a percentage of your fee for each referral they send?

Mowing lawns, weeding, cutting down or pruning trees, going into the national forests (with permit) to harvest fallen trees and scrub, then cut it into firewood and sell by the cord or half-cord. Pick up free pinecones, clean them and resell them as fire starters, Christmas decorations or turn them into natural bird feeders and sell them.

Do you have a truck or van? Help people move things. I know guys who make an extra $300 per day on the weekends alone just by helping young singles move from one apartment to another. Or they help people get furniture or large appliances home after a purchase, so they don’t have to pay higher delivery fees of the stores. They charge extra for carting away the old furniture or appliance to the dump. Sometimes, they sell the appliances to a guy who repairs them and sells them – one side-gig business helping another side-gig business.

Can you cook or bake to perfection? Become a caterer. If you can’t cook, establish your own “roach coach” lunch wagon route and drive through light industrial areas during weekdays. Sell sandwiches, pop, bottled water and snacks. You can even sell someone else’s sandwiches!

These are just a few examples of offline business you can start. The possibilities are endless!

I hope this article has helped you see the importance of having a way to earn extra money, as detached as possible from the threat of the growing “Matrix.” Whether you work your offline business as your full-time job or a side gig – you need to start one NOW.

The Golden Horde – Redirecting & Misdirection

Click here to view the original post.

First, Who is or What is the “Golden Horde”? While the phrase originally came from the ancient Mongols who overran eastern Europe in the 13th Century, the prepper community uses the phrase as follows: “The “Golden Horde” is (are) the anticipated throngs of unorganized and organized individuals, groups, and ‘gangs’ who will be out roaming, searching, and even looting & pillaging for food and supplies following a major widespread societal and infrastructural collapse – without the rule of law.” There’s a lot of varying opinion regarding the possibilities and probabilities of a Golden Horde, and how far (or not so

Venezuelan Refugees Mass exodus from ‘Mad Max violence’

These incredible images show the thousands of desperate Venezuelans trying to flee the crisis-hit country by pouring into neighbouring Colombia

We already know the situation in Venezuela is bad to say the least but it is now reaching what truckers call “Mad Max” violence. Trucks with food are being attacked on the road before they reach the stores. Cars with armed, desperate people attack and close around the trucks like “wild animals”. What are these people stealing? Potatoes, sugar and milk, basically any kind of food.
The situation has been critical for a long time and people are now just desperate, escaping the country along the borders any way the can, forcing the countries next to Venezuela to tighten the border controls. Over 2 million have already escaped the country.
In a desperate attempt to keep people from leaving, the Venezuela government is making it increasingly difficult for people to get their passport. They claim lack of paper and other nonsense. The truth is that a passport can go up to 6,000 USD. Given the out of control inflation, this is something most Venezuelans don’t earn in years.

The INCH bag list for your average Venezuelan?

1)Passport

2)Money (USD or Euros)

3)A place to go to.

What else would you wish you had if you were stuck in Venezuela? maybe trying to escape?

Magnetic Compass Accuracy

Click here to view the original post.

Navigating with a magnetic compass is a skill that takes study and practice.

When plotting the hiker’s position on a map the objective is to have three lines of bearing intersect just like in the image below; this is a position fix.  That is “pin point” accuracy. This is hard to do with a magnetic compass and may not be achievable.

Blake Miller/Outdoor Quest Image
Many factors impact accuracy.  Some the hiker will have no control over.
These include:

  1. Visual acuity (e.g., how well the hiker can see.)

  2. Polarity of the compass’ magnetic needle – does it point in the right direction? Polarity may change over time such that the magnetic needle may no longer work accurately.

  3. Smooth movement of the magnetic needle.

  4. Alignment of the compass dial to the compass housing.

  5. Local attraction – Similar to declination, local attraction is magnetic interference unique to a specific location.  It may be caused by buried metal objects or an unusually high concentration of iron or nickel in the ground.

  6. Lack of distant objects to sight on.

  7. Weather (e.g., Fog, clouds, and smoke.)
  8. Terrain may hide the objects that the hiker wants to sight with the compass.
The hiker does have control over the following.

  1. Purchasing a quality compass such as the Silva Ranger.

  2. Correctly adjusting for declination.

  3. Staying away from iron and steel objects such as a car, high tension power lines and a hunting rifle.

  4. Practiced sighting techniques.

  5. Practiced with the procedures of plotting the various lines of bearing.

Blake Miller/Outdoor Quest Image
The image above closely represents what the hiker will have to deal with and accept.  The crossed lines of bearing provide a rough approximation of a position plotted on the map.

Terrain Association will further “dial in” the hiker’s backcountry position.

Blake Miller/Outdoor Quest Image

The image above represents the error of the plotted lines of bearing.  Notice that the lines of bearing have poor angular separation. But by using terrain association the hiker might be able to refine the position fix.  If the hiker is near the river and on the on the river’s east side then the position close the road  will better define location.

Navigation is not hard but it does take practice; it is a perishable skill.

When in the wilderness compare both map and compass with a GPS when possible.  Hiking companions should compare their work too.

Movie Monday – The Colony Season 1 Episode 10

Click here to view the original post.

The Colony Season 1 Episode 10

The Colony is a “survival experiment” broadcast on The Discovery Channel, in which ten people (and later more) must rebuild after a simulated viral outbreak kills most of the human population. They are given several blocks of abandoned industrial park bordering the Los Angeles River in downtown Los Angeles, where they are allowed to do anything they want and scavenge any supplies they can find.

Emphasis is placed on dealing with resource scarcity, novel uses of common (and not-so-common) found items to provide for the group in such a situation, and weighing the survival of other groups against the survival of one’s own (i.e. stealing). There are several semi-scripted encounters with others (various wanderers, raiders, and a trader), which demonstrate possible social interactions in such an environment and the play between compassion (give them food because it’s the right thing to do?) and pragmatism (keep it for yourself because you need it more?). All actors are forbidden to directly harm the Colonists (lest they risk an insurance nightmare and subsequent cancellation), but panic, emotion, and malnutrition (on the Colonists’ side) meant that accidents could still happen.

These films are presented as an exception to the copyright act as fair dealing for the purpose of research, private study, education, parody or satire. See bill c-42 article 29.

“Beware Of The Natural Familiarity of Ichabod Churches”

Click here to view the original post.

Are you as intrigued by that statement as I am? It certainly captured my attention when reading an article written by John Burton for Charisma Magazine. But, what exactly is an “Ichabod Church”? To understand this reference, one must go to the Old Testament and the Book of 1 Samuel. There the Israelite Judge Eli (who helped raise the prophet Samuel) and his family were judged disrepectful of the Lord, despising the sacrifices and offerings made to Him, and taking the choice parts of meat and fat for themselves.

The result was that the Israelites were defeated in battle by the Philistines; Eli’s sons were killed in battle; and Eli, himself, dies upon hearing the news that the Ark of the Covenant has fallen into the hands of the Philistines. But it is his daughter-in-law, who before dying in child-birth, learns of the deaths of her husband and father-in-law and the capture of the ark, then names her son Ichabod, and proclaims, “The glory has left Israel, for the ark of God has been taken.”
So, in essence, what John Burton is alluding to is the fact that the glory of God has left our churches today. At the heart of his article is this statement: “Most every day, in one venue or another, I’m hearing from disillusioned, frustrated people who cannot find a church that has been overtaken by the Holy Spirit. No extreme revival atmospheres can be found for many. The Upper Room experience that innumerable desperate people are searching for are nowhere to be seen, in some instances, within 500 miles of where they live. They complain of short, ordered, controlled services that, according to them, aren’t worth their time. There’s a measure of spirituality, but they don’t even come close to the explosive, supernatural experiences they are craving”.
Now, when I read this my heart was pricked, and my mind became super-charged, and I felt as if God was down-loading thoughts faster than I could comprehend them and tie them all together!  First of all, we know that the Ark of the Covenant was the presence of God with the Israelites. So, if the ark is gone, then the glory [and His presence] of God is gone. But how do we define the glory of God? What is it? It is certainly true that, in history, God’s glory has been externally manifested not only in the Ark, but in the plagues; the pillars of cloud [by day] and fire [by night]; in His appearance on Mount Sinai; in the fire initiating the sacrificial system; and in Solomon’s Temple. His glory certainly became a reality at the birth of Christ and will be evident in the restored Zion and the heavenly Jerusalem, in the future.
But what should His glory look like for us today? And if Mr. Burton likens our modern Churches to a condition similar to the circumstances surrounding the birth of Ichabod, what is he really saying? Let me see if I can connect the dots between his article and what the Lord is showing me.  I have heard it preached and spoken by today’s pastors that “God’s glory can be seen in things such as love, music, heroism and so forth—things belonging to God that we are carrying “in jars of clay” (2 Corinthians 4:7). We are the vessels which “contain” His glory. I can’t disagree with that, but if we are the vessels that contain His glory, what about those vessels in the Upper Room on Pentecost? Why have we, in the modern Church, dismissed the glory that they contained? Why do we dismiss the signs and wonders and the power of the Holy Spirit that was evidence of God’s glory in them?
In his article, Mr. Burton likens the state of our churches to the Wise and Foolish Virgins in the Parable of the Ten Virgins. In this well-known parable, half of the Virgins have their lamps full of oil (which is representative of the Holy Spirit in the Bible). The wise Virgins had been in recent contact with the dispenser of oil (Holy Spirit), whereas the foolish Virgins had apparently procrastinated. Engaging frequently with the dispenser of the oil [the Holy Spirit], the wise had an adequate supply of oil to trim their lamps and go into the marriage supper when the bridegroom finally arrived. They were prepared! But the foolish Virgins think they can just borrow some of the oil from their wiser counterparts.  But that’s not how the Holy Spirit works!
And this gets to the crux of Mr. Burton’s premise: “Churches are filled with people the Bible would call foolish—those who are not spiritually vibrant, personally disciplined, and deeply intimate with Jesus. Their lamps are empty… If a church is ablaze with the spirit of prayer and alive as the Holy Spirit blows and burns through everyone there, those who are asleep and without any oil will definitely not feel comfortable. There is no way they can integrate in such a place without feeling the pressure to fill their lamps”. Then he asks, why are we so willing to share our oil; to dilute the glory of God in the presence of the Holy Spirit in order to make those people feel comfortable? Why is the Church of today so willing “to integrate nicely with others who are equally resistant to the deeper things of the Spirit? They are [all] spiritually interested, but not spiritually invested. They have not paid the price and have not bought their own oil”.
Here’s the thing … the oil (Holy Spirit) cannot be borrowed. And it cannot be passed from one person to another.  Each person must determine just how much of the Holy Spirit he or she wants.
This principle reminds me of those 120 who were present in the Upper Room at Pentecost. But do you recall that after He was resurrected, Jesus appeared first to Peter, then to the 12 Apostles, and then to more than 500 of His followers? Acts 1:3 says, “He presented himself alive to them after His suffering [on the Cross] by many proofs [signs and wonders], appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God”.
The Bible tells us in Acts 1:2, that just before He ascended into Heaven, He left instructions for ALL of those followers and apostles [which means “sent ones”; not restricted to the Twelve]. He told them all to wait in Jerusalem for the gift of the Holy Spirit; that which had been promised by the Father [in Joel 2].  So there were at least 512 people who had seen the resurrected Christ and been told to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. Why were there only 120 who received Him? Did the others get tired of waiting? Did they think they had lots of time and weren’t diligent about being prepared? Or did they think that the gift of the Holy Spirit wasn’t for them or worth their while? Do you see the similarities with the Foolish Virgins? With the modern Church?
If we think that we’re on solid ground, or good enough, with being saved and having the Holy Spirit indwell us, and thus being content with a moderate level of the Holy Spirit in us… aren’t our lamps only half full? Don’t we want the full measure of Him, which means we are willing to pay the price to seek Him on our own? Do we really want to be like those 200 or more people who missed out on the Upper Room experience because they weren’t willing to pay the price to wait for the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit? As Mr. Burton writes, “Those who had their lamps full, those who responded to the command of Jesus to wait and pray, were ready when the wind and the fire came!”
So, I believe the underlying message to the Ichabod Churches and to the foolish Virgins is this: Don’t quench the desire of the Holy Spirit to manifest among you in the supernatural power of Heaven. Don’t restrict His Presence because some are uncomfortable, or lazy, or fearful. Don’t limit His Presence to the lowest common denominator. The glory of God is to make His Presence known; to pour out His Spirit on all mankind.  What He did in the Upper Room at Pentecost is His desire for you and me. We must not let His glory depart on our watch!

Exodus 24:17    “Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel”.

Underground Greenhouse Produces Tomatoes Year-round (VIDEO)

Click here to view the original post.

An underground greenhouse makes a lot of sense in the arid climate of New Mexico. I came across a super-effective and simple Walipini-inspired greenhouse that was homemade by Mark Irwin.

Check out this video where Mark shows you what he has been doing and how he is making a small side income by selling tomatoes to the Albuquerque market year-round.

I am a big proponent of lots of little side-income businesses. Diversity ensures there is always something coming in.

Note that I’ve put the reference Mark mentions down below the video.

Enjoy—and comment! We love to hear from you.
