Conflicted – Choosing the Right Group – What Would You Do?

Click here to view the original post.

Conflicted is a Survival Game.  Each card in the deck has a scenario that will stretch how you would respond in an SHTF situation.  What would you do?  Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

SCENARIO – Your survival group of 8 is isolated in the wilderness and has been surviving quite well. You are aware that there are other survival groups within a 5 mile radius of you.

The first group consists of 18 people that are in the same situation that you are in, and the other group is a small mountain community of 50 that are struggling but holding on.

These two groups are at odds with each other and choosing one means siding against the other.  You are thinking about establishing an alliance with these groups.

Which group would you choose first and how would you establish a relationship for mutual benefit.

The Home Schooled Shootist is an instruction guide for intermediate to advanced shooters. It addresses fighting with shoulder-fired weapons at ranges 0 through 600 meters. The book assumes the reader has mastered basic remedial techniques and is fully versed in firearm safety. In order to ensure the buyer’s skills match the difficulty of the included exercises, a video preview showing limited examples has been created. It can be found at or via other common sources for internet videos. A search of “Home Schooled Shootist” should generate several options. This work is divided into three basic sections: How to create

(Video) Brazilian Police Woman shoots Bad Guy

Click here to view the original post.

Hi FerFal,

Just an article:

Apart from the praise of her awareness, the lady showed quite a good tactical movement (even the robber down, she immediately went for cover, still maintaining aim), and it’s also worth noticing this form of concealed carry: in her bag.

I wouldn’t bet she can draw a gun from her bag without alerting the robber, but she did, and exactly how you wrote about the 4-o-clock carry: partially turning away, covering her gun right until taking aim and then shooting immediately, without warnings, without ‘just wounding’, right for the most probable way of downing the attacker.

In addition to it, this is quite a good pro-gun argument. I don’t think too much wannabe-robbers will try again at that school.
Take care,

Ps.: I just wish our police would be this alert too…

Hello G.

Yes, saw it a couple days ago. Brazilian police do not mess around. Lots of hands on experience and it shows in the determination displayed when actual fights go down.

She did several things right, many that are quite hard to do in the heat of the moment under such stress.

She picks the right time to make her move, shoots several times, manages not to shoot any of the several bystanders, moves for cover behind the engine of the car, then moves forward again and kicks the gun away form the attacker.

Just a well trained lady with nerves of steel.

Life and Risk Management

Click here to view the original post.
Hey Folks, I figured I should say hello. Things have been busy. On a positive note for me and by default you all school just finished up. Waiting for grades to post but if everything goes well I will be done. I can use a mental/ financial/ emotional break for awhile. With more available time I may blog more. No promises but it might happen.

Anyway our friend Meister did a Couple of posts about risk management which are worth looking at. He brings up some excellent points. Specifically looking objectively at our potential risks, focusing on more realistic risks instead of unrealistic ones, mitigating risk whenever possible, making are the residual risk is worth the benefits and constantly reassessing. You all should go there and leave a comment to encourage his efforts.

My next risk management post is written. It is 6 pages long albeit with some lists and pictures. I am going to review it and hopefully get it out to you all this week.

For me currently the big pushes are financial and fitness. I need to rebuild some savings and plan for a transition. Also lose a shade under 20 lbs and get faster. Other then that my main goals are rounding stuff out to really get my systems right.

If it works out ok I have some training opportunities on the horizon but that’s not really my focus right now.

So anyway I’m not dead and that’s what is up with me.

Book Review: Disguise Techniques

Click here to view the original post.

Disguise Techniques is an older book, created by an actor working for the OSS, forerunner of the CIA. I expected more from the book due to its history of being a text of sorts for our spies, however it really did not give any new insights. It was an interesting read, but you could probably learn more from an acting class… This book dealt a lot with  controlling body language and how putting on a hat or taking off a jacket combined with body expression would change your appearance. In my mind any one that has watched a modern spy movie

Extroversion and NWO Authoritarianism Do Not Mix Well

Click here to view the original post.

I have to make this quick, but it is a salient point that I do not want to have slip away.

I have an unsual personality type.    ENTJ is the Briggs-Myers classification, it’s pretty rare.    Among other things, I am an Extrovert who is totally comfortable with being 100% by myself, at least for periods of time.    Outside the Briggs-Myers classification system, another aspect is a high masculine energy, which needs to be swayed and complemented  by some feminine energy or degradation occurs.

Plus I changed my own well system last year, so I got so many points on my “man card” that I don’t worry about wearing some bright Aloha shirt, even in the midwest.

On pre flight from Ohare to Honolulu, I wore a light green Aloha shirt with some yellow flowers on it.   Of thousands of people I saw, I was by far and above the most “extroverted” among both males and females.     90% of the people wore all dark colors, not even earth tones.     It was bland, it made me think Orwellian.

Then at TSA, the Orwellian thing became even more intense.   They have automated the Plastic Tray system  so that “agents” don’t even have to touch the trays or push them into the scanner.    It is like an assembly line, and the travelers are the “workers” with oversight by the TSA.   Also rather than clear cut printed directions which could easily be displayed and avoid confusion….the important instruction were just occasionally shouted out by a TSA “agent” who was often a classical minority or immigrant with some type of accent.     It was odd, and striking.

TSA overlords shouting out hard to understand commands, whilst the “workers” took actions to feed the machines.

Also consider that our “elite” <eff I hate that word> overlords, the financial barron’s that have ruled directly and indirectly for, really, centuries, have made sure that they have purchased the Entertainment industry and the Media.

With the internet now reaching into it’s fourth decade, there is 1.5 generations who grew up in that world.    The internet and near instant analytics via search engine topics, and social media allow the overlords to instantly analyze the effectiveness of their “messages”.     This is perhaps the largest problem society faces.   And yet we can’t extract ourselves from it.    Evil that you don’t want to run away from… that is truly evil, like Amazon.

So this article on music trends caught by eye, submitted by Lot’s Wife <web search that>.

A previous study covering 1980-2007 found that music lyrics have become more self-centered, with increased use of the words “me” and “I”, fewer social words such as “we”, and more anti-social ones such as “hate” and “kill”.
This trend in lyrics are in tune with overall increases in loneliness, social isolation, and mental disorders across society.
The new study, based on a massive data trawl of 500,000 songs released in Britain between 1985 and 2015, found that as “happy” music declined, so did the popularity of songs sung by men.

stock here — so one of the so called “happy songs” that won awards in Europe is called Toy.    Sung
by a really fat Israeli female.    Read the lyrics, they are extremely negative, women are wonderful and divine and men are stupid and should not even expect to touch women, but be ready to be taught by women.

Too classic — the NWO meme, also to divide men and women and to reduce love.
Ree, ouch, hey, hm, la Ree, ouch, hey, hm, la
Ree, ouch, hey, hm, la
Ree, ouch, hey, hm, la

6 Great “Off-The-Grid” Ways To Use This Summer’s Grass Clippings

Click here to view the original post.
grass clippings

Whatever you do, don’t throw your grass clippings away this summer!

People that have lawns both small and big can understand how much of a chore cutting the grass can be. But even worse – what do you do in all the grass clippings once you’ve finished mowing? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that yard waste is the reason for 18% of the refuse that individuals dump into landfills – rising to 50% during the growing season!

Approximately 75% of this waste comprises grass clippings with the remainder being tree leaves and limbs. Given that landfills are starting to be in want of space and many have banned grass clippings anyway. So isn’t it about time that we put our grass clippings to a positive use? Allow me to share six techniques which use grass clippings that you probably never would have imagined:

1. Mulching

Mulch is undoubtedly the term used to describe any form of material that someone spreads over the top of the soil as a covering. Organic mulches serve to retain moisture, suppress weeds, render the ground cool and enhance its fertility. Grass clippings, either fresh or dried, make an excellent organic mulch which has high amounts of nitrogen, something all plants would need to grow and flourish. Install a quarter-inch thick layer of fresh, organic (if possible) clippings around flowers and flower beds to obtain free, organic mulch. If it’s thicker than that, the grass won’t be able to digest fast enough and may even proceed to smell as it decomposes. Dried clippings – which serve as a perfect mulch for vegetable crops – can very well be spread on thicker than a fourth of an inch.

2. Raised Beds

Raised bed gardening is among the most proven methods to try in your garden! In case you maintain a container garden or raised beds, then you’ll be elated to hear that they represent an easy way to deplete your excess grass clippings. To enhance soil quality and boost your yield, consider utilizing the Lasagna Method of soil mixing. It involves creating several layers of fabric to fill the bed and nourish your plants. In the whole lower regions of the beds, layer one part grass clippings with two parts shredded leaves – these will slowly compost with time into fertile soil. The clippings really should be layered thinly to avoid matting. Once the beds are almost full (within six to 12 inches from the original top), put in a compostable barrier like cardboard and fill the rest with each of your chosen soil mixes.

3. Animal Food

Grass clippings can be utilized to make fodder for cattle feed. Some tests have concluded that silage constructed from recent clippings contains a protein content of 18.2%, along with a digestible matter content of 68% – significantly superior in comparison to hay, which generally averages a digestible matter content of about 59%. Alongside feeding cattle, grass clippings might be a viable supplementary source of food for sheep. The end product from several studies indicates that you can safely and effectively employ grass clippings as inexpensive, renewable feed sources for all of your woolly creatures. Even if you don’t have animals of your own, check if your neighbors or local farm owners show an interest in employing your grass clippings for the cattle and sheep. Remember: never use clippings from grass which has been chemically treated to feed live animals.

4. Lawn Clipping Tea

Making a compost tea out of your compost pile and your compostable items is an excellent strategy to suppress disease, amplify the variety of nutrients now available to plants, speed up the breakdown of toxins, and enhance the nutritional content and taste of vegetables. To brew a lawn clipping tea, place your freshly cut grass in a bucket of water and enable it to steep. Beneficial nutrients like potassium, nitrogen, phosphorous, chlorophyll and amino acids will leach from the grass directly into the water. After two weeks or thereabouts, strain up from the liquid and employ this tea to feed your plants by pouring on their roots or spraying toward their leaves.

5. Composting

Supposing you don’t want to leave them laying on the lawn, one of the most natural tactics is to put grass clippings to good use within your garden by composting them. Once you prepare and treat the clippings in the right manner, you can manage to recycle the nutrients from grass in other sections of your garden. A suitable compost pile needs a mixture of green and brown materials. Freshly cut grass, which many people have touted as ‘green,’ consequently would need to be balanced out through the addition of brown material, like dry leaves, branches, twigs or paper. When adding fresh grass clippings, remember to turn the grass straight into the pile to increase aeration and prohibit compaction. Alternatively, it’s possible to leave your grass clippings to change color and dry out on their own. In this way, they can eventually serve as brown material in a natural manner!

6. Recycling

If you’re producing more grass clippings than you can use, the best possible option is usually to bring unwanted clippings to your local recycling center. This facility can dispose of them in an environmentally clean and efficient manner.

7. One More Just For Fun: Natural Easter Egg Dye

Grass clippings produce a fantastic, natural green dye color for Easter eggs, although you will often find that it is considered an organic fabric dye! So save some for next Easter.

Avoid Burning Your Grass Clippings

In addition to the incontrovertible fact that the law prohibits open burning of grass clippings or leaves in plenty of states and countries, the incineration of wet grass clippings and green materials creates a thick smoke.

This smoke can easily be harmful to health and, of course, the environment. Thus, researchers with the Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California have discovered an alternative method to turn ordinary grass clippings into environmental fireplace logs that might be on sale in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hawaii Mega-Tsunami 1000′ Tall Is Possible — Volcanic “Lubrication” of the Loose Flank Could Occur

Click here to view the original post.

Be prepared, not scared.

First off let me say this.    NONE of the nuclear plants on the Fukushima coast have been restarted, but that does not lessen the risk because of all of the stored nuclear waste that has been gathered and bagged up.

Let’s get clear on this out of the gate.    Prior to Fukushima, The lava lakes in the Kilauea area of the Big Island of Hawaii “drained”.    Then a week later, the Tohoku Earthquake in Japan.

Last week, the Lava Lakes of Kilauea drained almost 1000′.

So if another Fukushima style Tsunami hits, all of the expensively gathered nuclear contaminated waste, mostly stored in high tech “garbage bags” will be swept into the ocean and the entire inventory of radiation will be released to the Pacific ocean.

If this waste gets swept into the ocean, I predict that the Pacific will be decimated for around 100 years.    As it is, it will probably take 30 years to recover the food chain.

3 generations with no Pacific food chain, could cause the mass die-offs to go beyond just the whales, get it????

There is another risk, even larger.    That being an island flank “slide off” is what I call it.   With
Tsunami’s up to 1000 feet tall.

Geologists suggest that a Kileauea flank collapse is the next most likely to occur in Hawaii, that is the Big Island of “Hawaii” the youngest, and therefore the steepest of the islands.

This video does a decent job of explaining it, although it states there have been 70 major slide offs in 20 million years.    I have studied Hawaiian Geology and it is widely accepted that Kauai made its first “stand” against the ocean about 4 million years ago, putting up massive dyke formations on the Napali coast, which are still totally visible today, and an awesome site if you know what you are looking at.    I have pictures somewhere, probably on mainland now.

Here is prior story on Hawaii lava lakes draining prior to to Fukushima

Hawaii braces for worse lava flows from erupting volcano

“As a lava lake at Kilauea’s summit drains inside the volcano, magma is running underground. It could burst to the surface as large, fast-moving and intensely hot lava flows and produce higher levels of toxic gases, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientist-in-charge Tina Neal said.“

Raw Milk Hysteria? Once Again Government Claims “Killer Bacteria”

Click here to view the original post.
raw milk hysteria

People have been drinking raw milk for thousand of years, in recent times for an array of incredible health benefits.

According to government statistics only 2 people have died from drinking raw milk since 2009. In fact, Americans are statistically more likely to be killed by a postal worker as there have been 35 shooting deaths from post office workers, “going postal” since 1983.

Listeria Hysteria?

Raw milk from some dairies could cause deadly brain infections, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture warned. The Department is advising consumers to throw raw milk away.

“Consumers who purchased raw, whole milk from Pool Forge Dairy between April 25 and May 7 should immediately discard it,” a press release from the department stated.

The Raw Milk “Danger Zone”

Raw, whole, or unpasteurised milk from the Pool Forge Dairy might be infected with listeria a bacteria that causes a deadly disease called listeriotis, the department warned. One out of five people with listeriosis will die from it, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.

Listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, the CDC reported. It can also lead to the deaths of newborns. Listeria is very deadly because it usually attacks the brain and the nervous system. People over 65, infants, and persons with weakened immune symptoms are more susceptible to it.

Milk Outlaws?

The milk was sold at the Pool Forge Dairy in East Earl Township, the Hoover’s Farm Market, and the Shady Maple Market, in April and May. No sicknesses from the allegedly infected milk had been reported Food Safety NewsNoted. The milk apparently tested positive for the bacteria.

Government officials claim pasteurising kills listeria and other bacteria and makes milk safe to drink. Unpasteurised milk is in its natural state. Most milk sold in supermarkets in the United States is pasteurised.

Raw Milk is Legal to Drink But Illegal To Sell In Many States

It is illegal to sell raw milk in 20 states ProCon reported. It is also illegal to take it across state lines, under Federal Law. There are 13 states, including Pennsylvania, where raw milk can be sold in stores.  Unpasteurised milk can be sold directly at dairies in 17 states.

Contrary to popular belief it is legal to drink raw milk in all 50 states. Strangely enough however, it is illegal to feed it to livestock in Michigan.

Should the CDC send out warnings for Americans going to the post office?

20 Reasons Why I Store Bag Balm And Why You Should

Click here to view the original post.

20 Reasons Why I Store Bag Balm and why you should store it in your emergency preparedness supplies. The product was first introduced in 1899 in Vermont. The formula was purchased by John L. Norris. I have used it for years. I bet I have 10 containers of it. Yes, I am a little OCD when I purchase products I LOVE. My daughters always tease me…”Mom, why do you always buy ten”? Here’s the deal with me, I always worry I will run out. Now that I am semi-retired I only buy five of certain items. I do not buy five of everything…let’s make that clear. LOL! I just want to be prepared for the unexpected. If I see a fantastic deal on something I will pick up extra to save money in the long run.

The Bag Balm product was originally used in the cold Vermont winters to protect the cow’s udders from getting chapped. It seems the farmers that applied this to their cows soon realized their hands became remarkably soft after using this lanolin-based ointment.

Bag Balm

This is when the product soon became popular for human use. Over the years this wonder antibiotic ointment has become useful for so many things. I use it on my Shih Tzu, Boston when his little paws get sore from abrasions. I do it right before bedtime, then he less likely to lick it off. Here are the ingredients in these little cans: 8 Hydroxyquinoline Sulfate (0.3% in a Petrolatum, Lanolin Base) listed on the can. Bag Balm has been around for a long time and continues to help so many people and animals in many ways. The Bag Balm salve is a thick yellow product and stays put where you rub it on. It has a light medicinal fragrance, but not too strong. This is where I buy Bag Balm: My favorite size can I also like the small containers of Bag Balm: Dairy Association Vermont’s Original Moisturizing and Softening Ointment for Pets, 1-Ounce

Here are 20 Reasons Why I Store Bag Balm:

1. It heals my cracked heels in the summer

2. Great for my dog’s paws when scraped or raw

3. Protects trees when accidentally sliced or cut-cover with Bag Balm

4. Used after radiation treatments to soothe skin

5. Great for rough Volleyball player’s hands and feet who play on the sand or on courts

Peaches This Year….Many, Many Peaches

Click here to view the original post.

I know, it’s really hard to see because everything in the background is green too, but this is my peach tree (with some roses in the flower garden to this side of it). It is loaded again with peaches this year. I haven’t done a thing to the tree, no pruning, no fertilizing, no nothing. It is just out there growing on its own beside the house. We haven’t even used the peaches I already canned. Three people apparently don’t eat many peaches…I really don’t know why we haven’t eaten them. When there is only three of you, big meals aren’t necessary or meals that take a lot of time –when you all work, so we just haven’t done anything with the peaches.
I must say that at one time I thought to be self sufficient as far as fruit went, you would need several trees of each kind of fruit to get enough to last you a year but now I think one of each fruit you really like with maybe a couple apple trees (since apples are used for more things) and a few berry bushes (if you don’t have wild ones to pick) would be more than enough.

I will be lucky if the branches don’t break and I know you are supposed to take some off if they get heavy enough to break the branches. The rain we have had lately has bent them down quite far and I may have to take some off soon but I usually don’t. We’ll see how it goes.

Video: Volcano Preparedness?

Being prepared certainly increases your chances of surviving and staying healthy in a lot of disaster settings, but can you prepare for a volcanic eruption like we’re seeing at Mount Kilauea in Hawaii? A volcano can form a river of lava, molten rock at 750-1250 degrees, plus shoot out rocks the size of boulders onto the landscape. Over time, falling ash can cause roofs to collapse. Sure, most of the country isn’t at risk for a volcanic eruption, or is it? Yellowstone National Park is home to a huge “caldera” where superheated gases cause geysers like Old Faithful. It exploded 640,000 years ago, and we’re due, some geologists say, for another event (in the next 40,000 years or so).

While you can’t protect your home from a wall of lava, there might be some actions that could give you a fighting chance to survive the event. In this video, Joe Alton, MD explores your options and offers some thoughts on what might make a difference and what might not for a volcanic eruption.

How Worms Can Deliver The Very Best Compost You’ve Used

Click here to view the original post.

Vermiculture or vermicomposting is the method of using worms to break down organic matter into useable compost for your garden. This method is catching on throughout the US, and you can often find “worm bins” for composting in your gardening catalogs.

To the uninformed, keeping worms in a bin outside or even in your home is pretty odd. However, vermicomposting has a range of different benefits that heavily outweigh any initial ick factor or hesitation over taking on a new project.

Benefits of Vermicomposting

Here are just a few benefits of harnessing the power of worms for composting:

1. Can Be Set Up Indoors.

Worm bins can easily be set up right in your home or even in a kitchen corner. A properly maintained worm bin doesn’t have a noticeable odor and to visitors it often just looks like a trash can. The real benefit of having a compost system right in your home is that you can add your table scraps right away rather than throwing away food or having to carry it out to your compost pile.

2. Organic Matter Composts Quicker.

In comparison to traditional composting methods, the vermiculture composting process is done in a third of the time. Even a substantially smaller worm bin could still produce more, and a better quality, compost compared to a compost pile.

3. Vermicompost is Superior to Other Types of Compost.

Science backs vermicompost as being higher quality and overall superior to other composts, even store-bought. You can see a data table of this on the New Mexico State University website by clicking here.

Due to its chemical makeup, vermicompost increases germination in seeds, boosts plant growth and also delivers nutrients to the plants for a longer amount of time.

Order your 2018 Heirloom Solutions seed catalog!

4. Microbes Present in Vermicompost Improve Plant’s Disease Resistance.

Those who use vermicompost regularly have noticed that plants fertilized with vermicompost are more disease-resistant and fare much better if pests are present. This is believed to be due to the presence of healthy microbes that live with the worms. They help break down organic matter but also are taken with the harvested compost and mixed into the soil.

5. Vermiculture Worm Bins Offer Two Forms of Compost.

There are two ways worms produce compost or fertilizer that you can use. The first: worm castings, which are the actual compost the worms create. The secondary way you can get fertilizer from the bin is through the excess moisture the worms create. This “worm tea” is a liquid that is rich in nutrients and can be poured right on your plants. Your worm bin set-up, even if it’s DIY, should have a spigot on the bottom bin so you can drain out this excess liquid.

6. Vermicompost Increases Soil’s Water Retention Abilities.

The worm castings which make up the vermicompost are extremely effective at retaining water. In fact, this compost can hold up to nine times its weight in water. When you mix the compost into your garden beds or pots, you are giving your soil a helping hand. This water retention means you conserve more water and also help those in dry climates improve their garden’s productivity.

7. The Whole Process is Pretty Much Hand’s Off Until Harvest.

Compared to traditional composting methods, vermicomposting is hands-off until the worms have completed the composting process. You don’t need to turn piles over or mess with the worms. All you do is feed them table scraps, inspect them regularly to ensure they aren’t underfed or overfed, and drain the extra worm tea so the bin doesn’t get too moist. You don’t go into the bin until you are ready to harvest the worm castings.

Setting Up a Vermicomposting System

Even those who live in an urban setting with a container garden or have only some herbs growing in pots can set up a vermicomposting system. The wonderful thing about using worms is that you can scale it to your needs, whether you’ve grown a couple of tomato plants or are growing a large garden that feeds your whole family.

The first step is to determine what system you want to use.

Choosing a Worm Bin

There are plenty of manufactured worm bins on the market for a good price. These are often a nice choice for those who don’t need to produce a lot of compost. They are also ideal for those of us who aren’t so DIY-inclined or just prefer the streamlined look of plastic, especially if it’s in the home.

If you’re brand new to vermiculture, it may be a good idea to start off with one of these bins. If you decide you need to scale up then you can buy additional bins or make a larger system yourself.

That being said, there are many DIY projects that you can build to save some money.

Selecting Your Worms

Even though the common regular old earthworms compost organic matter, they aren’t especially suited for a vermicomposting set-up. There are two species of worms that are best for vermicomposting: brandling worms (Eisenia foetida) or, the most common species, red wigglers (Lumbricus rubellus).

New Natural Fertilizer Doubles Garden Production!

These worms are smaller than the earthworms you tend to find in your garden and are composting powerhouses. Earthworms prefer a soil-based environment, which is why they don’t thrive in a composting set-up. Red wigglers or brandling worms prefer the more wet compost set-up and will even live right in manure.

You can purchase red wigglers or brandling worms from many different sources on the Internet, from Amazon or eBay to worm breeder’s websites. I’ve purchased worms from Amazon and from worm breeders who have listings on eBay. I recommend you do a litter research or read reviews to ensure the person or company has a history of delivering healthy worms.

You will need about one pound of red wigglers to start up a worm bin the size of the commercial ones listed above. If you need to scale up, it is recommended to go with two pounds of worms per pound of food scraps/organic material you need to compost. The worms will produce roughly their body weight in castings.

Setting Up the Bin

Setting up the bin involves simply adding bedding for the worms. Some commercial set-ups will come with bedding to get you started. If yours didn’t or you’re building one, you can use the following different materials for bedding:

    • Shredded newspaper or printer paper.
    • Shredded leaves.
    • Hay or straw.
    • Moistened peat moss.
    • Old/aged manure.

Fill the bin with bedding and allow it to sit for a couple of days before introducing the worms. Make sure the bin is aerated (use your hands to lift the material) and slightly damp (not wet!) before adding the worms on top.

Feeding Your Worms

Your worms can be fed a wide variety of different table scraps or other organic matter, such as:

      • Vegetable scraps.
      • Fruit scraps.
      • Eggshells.
      • Tea bags.
      • Used paper towels or napkins.
      • Coffee grounds.

Never feed your worms any dairy or meat products.

Harvesting Your Compost

The average-sized worm bin can be fed for roughly three months before you can harvest the castings. Fed on a daily basis, the worms should have eaten and broken down their bedding within that time. Once you’ve noticed that the bedding is gone, it’s time to remove the worms, separate the useable compost and replace new bedding for the worms.

There are a couple of ways you can do this, but the easiest is to construct a sifting frame from some leftover lumber and hardware cloth. Set this over a wheelbarrow or a bucket. Dump your worms and compost over this and then shimmy the frame to sift the compost through. Some little worms will get through, and you can pick these out if you want.

Vermicomposting is a super-easy process and quite fascinating since it’s powered solely by worms. It is a simple project to set up and requires very little maintenance. In return, you get some of the most powerful compost available.

Do you currently have a vermiculture set-up or plan to buy/build one? Please share any tips or other comments in the section below.

The smartphone has revolutionized the way we travel. In the old days, you’d be snowed under with maps, travel guides, and other accessories to get you through your trip. These days, all you need is your phone and a Wi-Fi connection. Here’s 10 of the best apps you should be downloading before you travel.

  1. Uber

Need a ride? This popular taxi/ride sharing app has you covered. You can use your phone to summon a driver, and you can see exactly where they are on the map. You’ll even have their name, picture, and license plate, so you know who’s coming. Share your ride on social media too, so you’re safe when you step in the car. This is especially helpful if you’re travelling alone.

  1. Skype

If you’re going to be away for a long period of time, at some point you’re going to get homesick. Back in the day you’d have to send a postcard, or make an expensive long distance phone call. These days, all you need to do is fire up Skype and chat to your loved ones at home. It’s free too, so it’s not going to make any dent in your travel budget.

  1. Google Translate

If you’re going to a country that speaks a different language, it’s advisable to learn at least some of the language yourself. There are even language apps like Best Australian Writers and Grammarix, which are among the top 10 learning tools out there. However, you’re not going to be perfect. Google Translate will handle translations for you, so you’re never stuck. You can even use the app to scan writing and have it translated in real time.

  1. Hopper

Flight shopping is one of the most frustrating experiences for travellers. Search around and prices vary wildly. When’s the best time go? This app will help. It searches all available flights and gives you a list depending on your needs, whether that’s cheapest first, or in a certain time frame. It’s a good way to know you’re always getting the best deals.

  1. XE Currency

‘Currency rates are always fluctuating. If you don’t keep on top of them, you won’t know what you’re paying when you’re away’ says travel manager Janet Ducal from Australian Reviewer. ‘It’s best to have an app that can tell you exactly what you’re spending.’ XE Currency is the best way of doing this. This well respected app will show you up to date currency rates, so you know exactly what you’re paying out while you’re abroad.

  1. Wi-Fi Map

These days you’ve got to have Wi-Fi, wherever you are. Many businesses are realising this, and are offering Wi-Fi to their patrons. This app is how you find them. Boot it up, and it’ll use your location to search for Wi-Fi locations around you. You’ll then be able to find the nearest hotspot to you, so you can get work done or upload those holiday snaps without eating into your data.

  1. Triposo

This app is designed to be used offline, so even if you can’t find a nearby Wi-Fi signal, you’re in luck. It’ll pull travel guides and other useful information from thousands of different sites online. When you’re out in the Wi-Fi wilderness, you can still pull on the information found there, thanks to this app.

  1. Snapseed

Your travel pictures are great, but some of them aren’t as good looking as you want them to be. That sunset is a bit washed out, or that photo of you in a club is slightly too dark. This app will help you edit them so they’re perfect. ‘This app was great was I was on the go and needed to upload pictures’ says travel blogger Gerry Henderson from Elite Assignment Help. ‘I could edit a picture in a few minutes on my phone, and it’d be ready to go.’

  1. Pocket

When you’re out on the road, you’re going to need some reading material. You’ll be spending time on planes, buses, and waiting rooms as you make connections. Pocket helps you collect and save reading material online, so you can read it when you’re ready. It’s brilliant when you find yourself with an hour layover and nothing to do.

  1. AirBNB

Many travelers swear by this app if you’re looking for a place to stay. An AirBNB can be a lot more comfortable than a hotel. They’re a good option if you’re travelling with a large party too. ‘The best part is they’re often very affordable’ says traveler Fiona Morgan from Revieweal. ‘It meant I could afford to see places I couldn’t have otherwise gone to.’

Give these apps a try the next time you travel. They can make the process a whole lot easier, and more enjoyable.

Top 5 Rules For Pocket Carry

Click here to view the original post.

Pocket carry safely and responsibly.

Pocket carrying a small pistol has become one of the most popular methods for concealed carry.  No one can deny that the firearms industry has recognized this and as a result has put out dozens of small pocket sized pistols to meet this demand.

That being said, pocket carry is just like any other form of concealed carry: it needs to be done safely and responsibly.  You can ensure that you accomplish this by following these five rules:

This may initially sound contradictory.  After all, isn’t the purpose of pocket carry to carry as small of a pistol as possible?

While it is true that pocket carrying is relegated to small pistols (at least for most individuals), you still want to carry the biggest pistol you can in your pocket without broadcasting it and yet still being comfortable.

This means that carrying a small .380 or 9mm automatic or .38 snub nose revolver will always be more preferable than carrying an extremely small .22 or a one/two shot derringer of some kind.  The larger your pistol is, the more ammunition you will likely have and the easier it will be to control it when the time comes to shoot.

You should NEVER carry a pistol in your pocket without a holster.  The holster serves two reasons: First, it covers the trigger guard of your pistol to diminish the chances of an accidental firing, and secondly, it retains the weapon with the grip facing up so you can grab the pistol when drawing

But you don’t want to purchase a cheap $5 holster either.  Remember that two things have to be accomplished with pocket carry: comfort and concealment.  Therefore, your holster must be comfortable in your pocket while also adequately concealing the weapon (meaning there can be limited to no printing).

A good quality holster keeps the grip of your gun facing up, hides the outline of the weapon, covers the trigger guard, and is comfortable to wear.  The good news here is there are a plethora of pocket holsters available on the market for practically any model of handgun available, so you have no shortage of options.

Regardless of whether you use your right or left pocket, NOTHING goes into that pocket except your gun and holster.  This pocket is for carrying the weapon only.

Why?  The answer is because putting additional items in there such as your keys, a knife, or your phone or wallet can inhibit your draw.  There’s also the chance that the entire gun could fall out while you’re juggling around your other items.

Placing other items with your gun in your pocket is merely a safety concern.  Dedicate one pocket for your gun in its holster and the rest for your extra things.

Don’t make the mistake of buying a gun for pocket carry and sticking it in there without ever thinking about it again.  There may come a time where you need to draw your pistol in a self-defense situation, so mastering this draw is imperative.

It takes at least one thousand repetitions of any movement for it to become muscle memory, meaning if you practice a particular draw a thousand times you will draw that way on instinct every time.

It’s also vital that you practice drawing from a different position, such as standing, kneeling, sitting, or laying down.  The best way to make sure that drawing your pistol becomes natural to you is to practice drawing it consistently (as in daily).  Make it a habit that before you go out in public with your pistol in your pocket, that you practice a couple of quickdraws at home.

There is a multitude of reasons to carry extra ammo for concealed carry, and pocket carry is no exception.  The number one cause of jams in a semi-automatic pistol is typically due to an issue in the magazine, and there’s also the possibility that you run out of ammunition in your current magazine or cylinder.  If you find yourself up against multiple enemies, reloading your weapon may be something you have to do.  Yes, carrying an extra magazine or speed strip/speed loader with you is weight and bulk, but it is also necessary.

Remember that your spare ammunition needs to be concealed in a separate pocket from your weapon and also needs to be easily accessible by your off hand.   Another option for carrying your spare ammo will be in a pouch on your belt, but this, of course, would be visible to anyone if your shirt is tucked in and you’re not wearing a jacket of some kind.

7 Laws That Are Talking Away Our Freedom

Click here to view the original post.

by Isabella

America has a unique constitution that was founded on the principle that people have rights; not rights granted to them by a benevolent government but by a Creator God. Our constitution recognizes our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness which takes form in the freedom of speech, religion, and the right to bear arms as well as the right to a fair trial and exemption from cruel and unusual punishment, among others.

Of course, since the founding of our great nation, many power-hungry men and women have been attempting to undermine our liberties and our ability to practice our constitutional rights. The last thing tyrants want is for Americans to simply live in peace, providing for, defending, and raising up their own families as they see fit.

The ever-expanding federal government is slowly eroding the unique liberties granted to us by the Constitution of the United States. Whether it’s gun rights, parental rights, religious liberty, or disaster preparedness, we are up against some serious threats to our freedom and our ability to be self-reliant and independent of the government.

Let’s take a look at some of the ways state and federal government are seriously threatening the liberty of American citizens.

Unconstitutional Gun Grabs

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, the gun control zealots are coming out in full force. Relying on highly emotionally-charged rhetoric and false facts and data about the nature of school shootings, gun violence in the US, and various firearm classifications, politicians are bending over backwards to please the hysterical gun control lobby.

One such frightening case of a very serious threat to Second Amendment liberties is a bill that just passed the state senate in Illinois, that, if passed, would make criminals out of 18-20-year old firearm owners.

Breitbart News reported that the bill HB 1465 would “[require] 18-20 year olds to hand over or transfer ownership of heretofore legally possessed “assault weapons”

“After being introduced in the upper house by Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago), the bill has added seven co-sponsors in the last week,” continued Breitbart News. “Notable among them was Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove), the NRA “A” rated 2014 Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.”

“The NRA-ILA described the weapons covered by HB 1465 as ‘commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms.’ The bill also requires 18-20-year-olds to forfeit ownership of any magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

“The guns and magazines remain legal for persons 21 and up, but persons under 21 would have 90 days to give up ownership, should HB 1465 become law.”

The prospect of thousands of gun-owning Americans being forced to turn in their firearms simply for being in a certain age bracket is highly enraging.

The Second Amendment protects our right to keep and to bear arms, and confiscating weapons from law-abiding, gun-owning Americans is a clear violation of this sacred right.

Tiny House Bans

The tiny house phenomon has swept across America over recent years, and for good reason! Tiny houses are sustainable, cheap to build, and a perfect option for those who want to live off-grid or build their own home without the massive overhead of steep home loans.

However, like all good things, the government wants to regulate them.

“Many residents and local officials fear they will drive down property values. Some state and local governments, perplexed about whether to classify tiny houses as RVs, mobile homes or backyard cottages, still refuse to allow them,” writes PBS News.

“Those built on foundations must meet local building and zoning regulations. But many tiny houses are built off-site, sometimes without knowing where they will ultimately rest. That makes it difficult to know which building codes to meet, especially if owners plan to move them from place to place,” they add.

Gone are the days when you could simply scout out a plot of land and build a house with the materials you could find.

Civil Asset Forfeiture

For the most part, the Trump administration has done more to give us back liberty than take it, but it definitely hasn’t been a perfect first year.

Jeff Sessions, Trump’s Attorney General, has made some good policy moves in office, for example he’s been attempting to hold Sanctuary Cities accountable for their gross neglect to detain illegal aliens, but he also brought back an unconstitutional property seizure policy that is blatantly unconstitutional.

In July, 2017 The Washington Post reported:

“The Justice Department announced a new federal policy Wednesday to help state and local police take cash and property from people suspected of a crime, even without a criminal charge, reversing an Obama administration rule prompted by past abuse by police.”

“Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein said the Justice Department will include more safeguards to prevent the kind of problems that have been documented in the past. Police departments will be required to provide details to the Justice Department about probable cause for seizures, and federal officials will have to more quickly inform property owners about their rights and the status of the seizures.”

“The goal here is to empower our police and prosecutors with this important tool that can be used to combat crime, particularly drug abuse,” Rosenstein said at a news briefing. “This is going to enable us to work with local police and our prosecutors to make sure that when assets are lawfully seized that they’re not returned to criminals when there’s a valid basis for them to be forfeited.”

The policy that this move reversed was set in place to prevent police from unlawfully seizing property from people who did not commit a crime, because there has been a history of police abuse of policies that do not require charges to be filed in order for property to be confiscated.

Allowing the police to freely rob you of your property, when you have not even been charged with a crime, is literally legalizing theft.

Think of the implications this has for someone who is simply trying to prepare themselves for disaster–if the local police operate under the mainstream thought crime mentality and charge you with a hate crime for simply saying you disagree with Islam on social media, which is the direction this world is headed, the police could come with a SWAT team and rob you of your preps, weapons, ammo, and not even face consequences.

City Ordinances on Community Gardens

Community gardens are a great way to get entire neighborhoods involved in an age-old practice of self-reliance and sustainability: gardening.

However, many cities across the country have been cracking down on the harmless act of growing and sharing food, as the Homestead Guru reports:

“Community gardens are also labeled a threat of the food industry because of the freedom it provides for low income and impoverished people. One example of a garden being shut down is the South Central Farm that was a community garden located at East 41st and South Alameda Streets and the garden was the largest community garden in the United States.

“The city allowed the farm the be created but sold the property to Ralph Horowitz in a secret deal out from under the citizens, and the new owner attempted to evict the farmers even though the farmers were able to raise the money to buy the land themselves. The selling of the land was corrupted, as it involved many backroom deals but it still ultimately lead to the demise of the peaceful garden.

“There were many protests and acts of civil disobedience for several years before the farm was finally bulldozed in 2006. There have also been many cases from around the country where the city or HOA’s shut down peaceful community gardens and even regular front yard gardens.”

It is completely insane to think of banning someone from simply growing a plant in the ground, but the overall trend of statism seeks to put all power in the hands of the state and remove it from the hands of the people, and this starts with food production.

Delaware’s Insane Restrictions on Parental Rights

The mark of a shift in power from the people and to the state is when the government assumes a position of authority in a child’s life above that of their parents and gives the children the authority to spy on and report their parents.

A law being considered in Delaware would do just this to Delaware public school children by granting them some insane rights at school and allowing school administrators to keep important information about their children private.

In November 2017, The Blaze reported:

“A proposed anti-discrimination policy for Delaware schools has both parents and state legislators up in arms.

“The First State’s proposed gender policy would effectively allow students to change their gender identity in learning institutions at the discretion of educational administrators.

“The policy explicitly provides that educators should consider not consulting or notifying parents of children who wish to change their gender identity, if those parents are not supportive enough of the gender identity change.”

This is nothing short of absolute tyranny. To undercut the authority of parents to such a degree, to perpetuate the lie that a person can change gender at will no less, is chillingly reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984, where government agents torture a man until he agrees that 2+2=5.

The gender confusion agenda is one that is being weaponized against parents, not to mention Christians, all across the country. The state has no right to hide something as drastic as a child choosing to identify with the opposite sex from parents or the fact that biological males are being allowed in the girl’s locker room or bathroom.

Parents have rights over their children and a constitutional freedom of association and the state simply cannot undermine that.

Ohio “Fairness” Act

The Ohio Fairness Act is ironically anything but fair, and poses a serious threat to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of association. Designed to protect the now-privileged class of homosexual and LGBT people, the act instead punishes Christians and anyone those who disagree with the homosexual and LGBT lifestyle.

In Ohio, long considered to be an important swing state in presidential elections, a bill has been introduced into the state’s General Assembly that is nothing more than a bill to give LGBT individuals and organizations privileged rights over everyone else.

HB 160, known as the Ohio Fairness Act is anything but fair. The bill amends many existing pieces of legislation and supposedly establishes fairness in government, business and political campaigns. Hidden within all of legal jargon used to write a piece of legislation, is the following:

“(1) Publish, distribute, or otherwise communicate information that does any of the following:”

“(c) Promotes illegal discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, age, ancestry, national origin, or handicap, age, or ancestry; or sexual orientation or gender identity or expression as those terms are defined in section 4112.01 of the Revised Code;”

That is literally banning free speech and the observance of religion. Our country was founded on the principal that you have a right to say anything you want and openly practice your religion without interference from the government.

The legal precedent that you can be punished for simply communicating your personal feelings on race, religion, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity is a direct violation of the first amendment, and if you think this is only possible in Ohio, think twice. Other states have been considering laws just like or similar to this one, so be vigilant–expressing your personal beliefs may soon be banned in your community as well.

Banning Collection of Natural Resources

Every single prepper needs to be aware of the legal precedent that has been set in this country that bans the collection of vital supplies as basic as rain water.

You’ve probably heard of the outrageous laws in Colorado that ban the collection of rain water, well, what you’ve seen on social media is no exaggeration, as The Washington Post reported in 2015:

Do you live in Colorado? Does it rain on your house? Do the drops patter off the roof, compose romantic puddles on your porch?

Guess what: That water isn’t yours. You can’t have it. And you most certainly cannot set out a tank to catch what falls from the sky, you thief.

Water laws are so strict in Colorado that rainwater collection is virtually prohibited. The doctrine is written into the state’s Constitution. All the rain is already spoken for. It belongs to someone, and that someone probably isn’t you. So don’t you touch it.

Sadly, this isn’t isolated to Colorado, several other states have laws restricting the collection of rainwater, and not just that, but it can often be illegal to generate your own electricity as well.

This is a huge violation of personal liberty as well as a serious concern for anyone focused on prepping or basic self-reliance.

Every single landowner has the right to collect and utilize the rain that falls on their land, and to restrict this is as insane as restricting and regulating the air we breathe.

If the government can ban us from something as simple as allowing rainwater to fill up in a bucket, what other liberties can they take from us? How much oversight can they have in our lives? The open-ended answers to this question are frankly chilling.

Our country was founded on the principle that we all have the right to live our lives as we choose, quietly and unmolested by unnecessary government regulations. Our federal government was supposed to remain small, and yet it has ballooned in size in recent decades, adding thousands of jobs, and with them, people whose positions are justified only by the unnecessary regulation they create.

As long as enforcing the law in this country can be incentivised somehow to a government that is increasingly indebted to private bankers, and as long as there are nefarious forces in our deep state and around the globe who are determined to take this country down from the inside, the attack on our liberty will continue to escalate.

And unfortunately, if that happens, it’s hard to imagine anything good will come of it.

At the end of the day, this is why we prep. The American Dream is an incredible one, but the American experiment may not last forever. We will die either fighting for our liberty, or watching it get stripped away from us.

Whichever side you choose, one thing is vital: prepare yourself and your family now, before prepping is banned completely and our liberties have completely vanished.
