4. Remove the dough from the pan and place on a flat surface, such as a countertop or cutting board. Shape the licorice candy dough into several long tubes, about ½-inch in thickness and 6 inches in length.
5. Roll the licorice candy tubes in icing sugar and place onto a cookie sheet to dry. Wait one to two hours for the candy to harden, and then store it in a glass jar or plastic storage bag until ready to eat.

Also have some extra herbal powder handy to powder the licorices so they do not sick to everything and dry out more naturally.

Cold and Cough Syrup

I.           This is a easy and simple Syrup that is made with ingredients you may already keep in your kitchen. Its effectiveness is very quick and lasting. Believe it it’s mostly in the Properties of the Onion and the enzymes in the herbs and honey. I use this a lot when I get a cold I make a small batch. and through more research.
II.  I found another Trick with onions.
If you do not sleep well and or have difficult breathing at night try this. take a fresh onion cut it in half put it on a plate and near the area you sleep close by. This will act as a natural air purifier/detoxeifier. and you should feel great when you wake up in the mornings. I got this from a book called the School of Natural healing centennial edition By Dr John R. Christopher

Ingredients:
1 cup freshly chopped onion

About 1/2 cup raw honey

Plus any of the following (optional):
1 tsp. Cloves (whole or powdered)- specifically good for pain relief

1-2 Tbsp. Comfrey or Slippery Elm (dried or powdered)- Comfrey is particularly good for healing, and Slippery Elm has more of a reputation for soothing and coating the throat

1-2 Tbsp. fresh chopped Ginger root OR 1 tsp. Ginger powder- Ginger increases warmth, circulation (important for healing) and the overall effectiveness of the syrup

**You can include all of these optional herbs, but at a maximum of 2 Tbsp. extra herbs total

Directions
Put chopped onions and any herbs of choice into a small stainless steel or glass pot (not alumnimum). Add enough honey to cover the onions ( for me, this seemed to be about 1/2 a cup, though I didn’t measure exactly).

Turn the pot on low heat and slowly simmer. The honey will soften and become liquidy, and you want to keep the temperature very low while allowing the herbs to steep in the honey. It’s best to keep a lid on to help keep all of the medicinal properties of the herbs in the syrup, and just take the lid off to give it a quick stir every few minutes to ensure it doesn’t burn at all (though the temp. should be low enough to prevent this).

Give it 20 minutes of simmering, then remove it from the heat. Strain the onions and herbs out and store the remaining honey (which might have flecks of herb in it and this is fine) in a small glass jar with a lid and keep it in the fridge.

The syrup can be used as often as needed, up to every half hour. Here are the dosages:

1 tsp. for a younger child

1 Tbsp. for anyone 10 years and older

While we’re on the topic of using onions medicinally, I thought I should mention another use I learn yesterday. A commenter said that when her children are sick, she puts chopped onions in a small bag around their neck when they go to bed and in the morning, they wake up well. First I had ever heard of it, but I’ve heard stranger things. Wouldn’t you know it that later yesterday, as I was reading about onion in the book, I read that breathing the fumes of an onion will help with congestion from a cold or other illness!

Since both Johanna and I have been plugged up lately (her more at night, me all the time) I decided to chop a large onion into chunks and put it in a bowl on the night table near where we both sleep. I couldn’t quite bring myself to actually put it in bed with me, but I could still smell it, for sure! Well, last night was the best sleep I have had in a few nights and the first time that I woke up without feeling all plugged up! Three cheers for the onion!

Herbal and Natural Solutions for Heartburn and Reflux

Heartburn and Reflux is due to the “LACK” of acids in the stomach needed for proper digestion as a result a vapor is emanated throughout the esophageal airway thus allowing the food gases to escape. as a result a burning sensation is felt on the GI track and the esophagus areas.
Tip: try taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and watch how fast it goes away. in some cases reported almost instant like. This is because you are replenishing the necessary acids need for proper digestion the the intestinal tract.  however other herbs are also good for heartburn and achieve similar results through the herbs enzymes. Enzymes are a natural decomposition tool and help not only digest the food but certain demuculant herbs such as marshmallow root are used to coat the sore areas and accelerate the calming of irritation(s) from the original heartburn and or reflux attack(s).
A few good herbs to help are:
Tinctures / Extracts:
  • Marshmallow Root tincture: (glycerine based)
  • Wild Cherry Bark : (glycerine based)
  • Licorice Root: (glycerine based)

Teas:
A cool Mint tea, Spearmint, peppermint, and even Basil. will help with Acid reflux Mints are also mild antispasmodics otherwise know at times as calmatives.
Tonic:
Take t tablespoon of apple cider vinegar  then drink 6 oz. warm (not hot) water to wash it down. or drink the apple cider tonic
Apple Cider tonic Recipe:

    APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
     “The Help All Tonic”
    of
    Yesterday and Today

    The Benifits:
THE  BENEFITS, THE  NATURE OF  DISEASE, CIDER VINEGAR, WHAT DOES IT DO?, POTASSIUM, THE USES, EFFECTS ON THE BLOOD: , ARTHRITIS, ASTHMA, BLOOD LOSS, COLITIS, COUGHS, DIARRHEA, DIZZINESS, EAR DISCHARGE, ECZEMA, EYES (TIRED AND SORE), FATIGUE, FOOD POISONING, HAIR LOSS, HAY FEVER, HEADACHES, HEARING, HEARTBURN, HEMORRHAGES, HICCOUGHS (HICCUPS), HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, INSOMNIA, KIDNEYS AND BLADDER,
    WHAT DOES IT DO?
Amongst other things, cider vinegar is very effective in detoxifying various organs in the body together with the blood stream. Hence it is a purifier, as it has a means of breaking down fatty, mucous and phlegm deposits within the body. It therefore, promotes the health of the vital organs of the body e.g. kidneys, bladder, liver etc., by preventing an excessively alkaline urine. Cider vinegar also helps oxidize the blood, which consequently prevents the blood from becoming too thick and gluey, which gives rise to a strained heart and blood vessels resulting in high blood pressure. Cider vinegar also promotes digestion, assimilation and elimination and it neutralizes any toxic substance taken into the body. There have been a number of instances where people who had taken a mixture of cider vinegar and water before a meal were unaffected by diarrhea, or digestive upsets, whilst their companions who ate the same meal were. Hence the cider vinegar seemed to neutralize the harmful substances in the food eaten.
    “POTASSIUM”
Apple cider vinegar has a potent supply of potassium, which has become so widely acclaimed in the helping of various complaints including: running nose. Excessive mucous formation, watery eyes, sinus and catarrhal troubles. Teeth decay and the splitting of fingernails are also signs of potassium deficiency, which are remedied by taking cider vinegar. Potassium is essential for the normal growth of the body and for the replacement of worn-out tissues, which depend upon the presence of this mineral. It is as important to the soft tissues, as calcium is to the bones and teeth and it also retards the hardening of the blood vessels.
As potassium is so important in the healthy growth of a plant, animal and human, a deficiency of this mineral will produce such tendencies as callous formations on the soles of the feet, or the failure to replace worn-out tissues as observed in the loss of hair.
Tests have proven that a soil deficient in this mineral-salt will produce anemic and undersized plants, however, when potassium is introduced into the soil the plant becomes sturdier and increases in height. This is also the case with animals, where potassium which was fed to livestock, in the form of cider vinegar, improved their appearance and stamina. Humans too, can benefit with this increased potassium intake. Especially where children are slow developers and appear undersized. A few teaspoons of cider vinegar taken with water each morning will show tremendous results. The best way to introduce cider vinegar to the family, is to substitute it for the ordinary table vinegar and use it in the cooking. Potassium acts as a restraining influence upon those who are over-excitable and nervous. It draws fluid back into the cells, for when potassium is lacking the body cells shrink and their normal activity is restricted.
    THE USES OF CIDER VINEGAR
A number of outstanding authorities have proven the therapeutic advantages of using cider vinegar for numerous complaints ranging from obesity and overweight to arthritis. Besides the therapeutic benefits derived from taking cider vinegar therapy, as outlined in this book, it can also be used for a number of other purposes e.g. salad dressing, pickling, a flavor in cooking etc. It also makes a very refreshing drink, hot or cold, with or without honey – this should take the place of normal tea and coffee, which are so habit-forming and unnecessary commodities.
Try using cider vinegar where lemon juice is required e.g. in making mayonnaise, or just sprinkle some on a salad before serving; sprinkle on pawpaw for a refreshing breakfast, or just use on potato chips!
EFFECTS OF CIDER VINEGAR ON THE BLOOD
When the blood is deficient in some minerals or biochemic salt, ill-health is the outcome e.g. boils break out, suppurating blisters become apparent, pimples appear on the face etc. It has been found however, that cider vinegar helps with the cleansing as well as the clotting of the blood. Oxidation of the blood is very important and cider vinegar is again an effective treatment for this. Besides introducing the important minerals into the blood stream, as mentioned above, cider vinegar also helps in the clotting of blood. This is of tremendous help to those people who are commonly termed ‘bleeders’, as they live their lives in fear of cutting themselves due to the bloods inability to clot, and it will also enhance the healing process.
    “AILMENTS”
    ARTHRITIS:
Use the cider vinegar and honey treatment for arthritis and also apply cider vinegar externally to painful joints. This entails drinking a glass of water with two teaspoons of cider vinegar and two teaspoons of honey three times a day. Local treatment can also be given by soaking the arthritic hand, or foot in a strong, comfortably hot solution of cider vinegar for ten minutes, two or three times a day – (a quarter of a cup of cider vinegar to one and a half cups of water). Arthritic knees can be attended to by making a poultice – soak the cloth in a mixture of cider vinegar and water, (as per above mixture) wring out and wrap it around the joint, then secure with a dry cloth to retain heat. When the wet cloth cools, it should be wrung out in the hot solution and applied afresh. Repeat several times, twice daily.
    ASTHMA:
One tablespoonful of cider vinegar added to a glass of water should be taken in sips for half an hour. After a further half an hour has elapsed the treatment should be repeated. The wheezing should lessen in intensity quite considerably. However, should wheezing still persist a second glass of the same mixture should be taken. Deep breathing exercises are also a beneficial treatment.
    BLOOD LOSS:
It has been discussed above how cider vinegar helps in preventing blood losses. In any circumstances where the flow of blood is too free and is too persistent, such as when a person has a nose bleed without any apparent reason, then two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water, three times a day will aid in restoring the natural clotting properties of the blood.
    COLITIS:
The cider vinegar and honey treatment has been used effectively in the treatment for colitis. Take the normal dosage of two teaspoons cider vinegar and honey with water, three times a day. An enema of a teaspoonful or more of molasses is also very helpful.
    COUGHS:
There are many types of coughs for various reasons, and these should be treated with reference to their nature and intensity. However, the cider vinegar and honey treatment will prove an efficacious treatment in this respect. Two teaspoons of cider vinegar and two of honey mixed with a glassful of water should be taken before meals, or when the irritation occurs. In the evening it would be an idea to have this mixture by your bed so that it can be sipped during the evening if an attack presents itself.
    DIARRHEA:
It has been mentioned above how cider vinegar helps with the digestion, assimilation and elimination of food, and that it is an antiseptic to the intestines and the whole of the digestive tract. Due to it’s healing properties, diarrhea can be controlled in a very short time, (that is unless some serious physical disorder is apparent). The treatment being, one teaspoonful of cider vinegar in a glass of water should be taken before and in between meals i.e. approximately six glasses during the course of the day. It should be noted, however, that diarrhoea is a natural attempt on the part of the body to eliminate some poison which is irritating the digestive tract, on no account should any drugs be taken to suppress these healing symptoms – on the other hand the cider vinegar will lessen the intensity, but will allow the natural course of elimination to take place.
    DIZZINESS:
Two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar together with two teaspoons of honey in a glass of hot or cold water three times a day should help this annoying occurrence quite considerably. However, one should never expect instant results, as nature works slowly, yet very effectively. You will notice a lessened intensity whilst you progress.
    EAR DISCHARGE:
The treatment for this complaint, which usually occurs during childhood is: one teaspoonful of cider vinegar in a glass of water to be taken mid morning and mid afternoon. The discharge should shortly disappear.
    ECZEMA:
Take the usual dosage of cider vinegar and honey in a glassful of water three times a day, with meals. An application of well diluted cider vinegar can also be applied to the skin several times daily i.e. one teaspoonful to half a cup of water. Under no circumstances should salt be taken, as this aggravates the eczema condition considerably. There is usually a potassium deficiency in those people suffering from eczema.
    EYES (TIRED AND SORE):
The cider vinegar therapy together with honey is the essential ingredients here. Two teaspoons of each taken in a glassful of water, three times a day. This mixture retards the onset of tired and sore eyes which are usually apparent in later life, as it supplies them with those vital elements essential to their health and functioning.
    FATIGUE:
Chronic fatigue is a warning that the body needs some attention. Most people suffering from chronic fatigue do not have enough good, sound sleep. Either they go to bed too late, or they are one of those people who just need more sleep than most. It is better to get as many hours in bed before midnight as possible. To remedy a poor quality sleep, honey is highly recommended, as it acts as a sedative to the body. Twenty minutes after the honey has been taken into the mouth it has been digested and absorbed into the body. This is because it is a predigested sugar, which has been digested in the stomach of the honey bee, and therefore requires no effort on the part of the human stomach for digestion. Keep the following mixture by your bedside to be taken as indicated: three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a cup of honey.
Take two teaspoons of the mixture before retiring. This should induce sound sleep within an hour; if however, you have been unable to sleep within this period repeat the dosage.
    FOOD POISONING:
As mentioned earlier there have been many cases where people who were in the habit of taking cider vinegar regularly never suffer any side effects from food poisoning. The cider vinegar has an antiseptic quality, which seems to render noxious food harmless.
    HAIR LOSS:
The falling out of hair is primarily due to a tissue salt deficiency, thus cider vinegar with its ‘wonder products’ will re-establish a natural balance, and supply the deficiencies where needed. Therefore, by taking the cider vinegar treatment the hair will maintain its natural growth. It will cease to fall out and grow more rapidly and thickly. This will take approximately two months, so perseverance is needed. The dosage is one teaspoonful of cider vinegar to a glass of water to be taken with or between meals. Cider vinegar can also be used externally for the treatment of dandruff, see under heading of External Treatments.
    HAYFEVER:
This ailment is marked by watery eyes, sneezing and running nose, in other words there is an excess of fluid which the body is drastically trying to offload. For an effective relief, honey and cider vinegar should be utilized which will bring excellent results. A tablespoonful of honey should be taken after each meal for approximately a fortnight before the onset of the hay-fever season. The ordinary dosage of cider vinegar and honey should then be taken viz: two teaspoons of cider vinegar and two of honey in a glass of water, three times a day. This dosage should be maintained during the entire hay-fever season.
    HEADACHES:
There are several types of headache, caused by various reasons. Some are associated with organic disorders, such as kidney troubles, others are known as psychogenic, or tension headaches. Then we have the most annoying of all; the migraine headache. Many people have had relief from headaches by the use of honey. Two teaspoons taken at each meal may well prevent an attack. Another effective means is to take apple cider vinegar. Equal parts of cider vinegar and water should be placed in a small basin on the stove, allowing it to boil slowly. When the fumes begin to rise from the basin lean your head over it until the fumes are comfortably strong. Inhale for approximately 50 to 80 breaths. Generally this alleviates the headache considerably, if not entirely.
    HEARING:
(Impaired) The treatment of impaired hearing has had excellent results on the apple cider vinegar therapy. Take the normal dosage three times daily and notice the improvement.
    HEARTBURN:
This usually occurs after eating, sometimes up to two hours later. This very unpleasant feeling can be alleviated by taking the usual dosage of cider vinegar and water before meals.
    HEMORRHAGES:
As previously pointed out cider vinegar helps the blood to clot more easily. When a person who regularly drinks cider vinegar cuts himself, the wound will dry up almost instantaneously, as there will be no profuse bleeding. If, however, wounds do not heal quickly, the following procedure should be undertaken; two teaspoons of cider vinegar taken in half or a whole glass of water at mealtimes as well as in between, therefore six glasses in all are imbibed. For extra efficiency a very weak solution of cider vinegar with water can be applied to the sore, wound or cut.
Poultices of cider vinegar (see instructions under the heading Arthritis) can be applied to a stubborn open wound.
    HICCOUGHS (HICCUPS):
These have been known to be eradicated by drinking a teaspoon of cider vinegar neat! Alternatively cider vinegar with water can be taken before mealtimes to prevent this occurrence.
    HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:
There are a number of reasons why a person suffers from this common yet serious condition. As mentioned earlier, health will be maintained only if one is prepared to adjust his living and eating habits. Cider vinegar is not the cure-ail of man’s suffering, it is only one of the many means towards a healthier and happier life. In the case of High Blood Pressure, one’s eating habits must be taken stock of to ensure a speedy and effective recovery. Emphasis is on the natural, organically grown foods which are given to us in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables and honey – rather than the high protein foods which include eggs, meat, milk, cheese, nuts, beans etc. A balance must be maintained between the proteins and carbohydrates and one should definitely not over indulge on these protein and starchy foods. Wheat products should also be eliminated completely, together with salt which is very detrimental to the health, especially for those suffering from high blood pressure. The following dosage should be taken daily: two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water – up to three to four times a day.
    INSOMNIA:
There are also a number of causes as to why people suffer from insomnia; however, there have been excellent results with the cider vinegar and honey treatment as follows: two teaspoons of cider vinegar and two of honey in a glass of water to be taken before retiring. It would also be beneficial to have a glass of this mixture by the bedside to sip if needed. Under no circumstances should drugs be resorted to, as these are both harmful and habit-forming. Under severe cases, a naturopath or homeopath should be consulted. If has been found that the prime cause of insomnia is due to a deficiency of phosphate of potash and phosphate of iron; this combination can be found in the biochemic salt known as kali phos, which can be obtained from your local health shop.
    KIDNEYS AND BLADDER:
Due to the eliminative nature of cider vinegar, the kidneys and bladder can benefit tremendously by a ‘flushing’, which they receive when the following cider vinegar therapy is undertaken: two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water six times a day. It would be beneficial to drink a couple of glasses of water in the morning, taking one teaspoonful of cider vinegar in each drink. Comfrey tea, first thing in the morning with a teaspoon of cider vinegar will also create a sufficient cleansing action. Inflammation of the kidneys, called pyelitis, in which pus cells are present in the urine, will generally clear up with the above-mentioned treatment.

Natural Solutions for Arthritis Part #2

    TARGET: Muscular Skelatol System
    Survival: Medicine

Rheumatoid  arthritis is a pain which targets the muscular skeletal system. In many cases effects joint area muscles but not limited to. This happens over time as oxidation forms within the joints causing inflammation there are many temporary solutions to help ease the pain and control the ability to control your own articulation thus limiting range of motion throughout.

There are internal and topical solutions as well as solutions with aromatherapy. But the only way to make the problem go away for good is to find the root cause of oxidation and inflammation. With internal supplementation.

A powerhouse of a herb for arthritis pain is White Willow Bark this herb targets nerves and has an aspirin like effect and has blood thinning properties. The body converts the salicin in the white willow bark and other species of the white willow family into salicylic acid. White willow is also good in aiding in most pains while providing a good supply of blood to the nerves and nerve endings loaded with healthy oxygen. This herb also has anti-inflammatory properties which aids also in inhibiting inflammation.
White willow barks ability to manage pain effectively may take a bit longer than normal aspirin but willow lasts longer and as aspirin has the ill effect in some to irritate the stomach lining willow will not cause these effects.
It is also said salicylic acid is used to dissolve warts and corns try using a little white willow on the wart or corn to dissolve it.

    Natural Solutions for Nasal Infections

Click here to view the original post.
    Target: Respiratory System
    Survival: Medicine

    Herbs for Sinus Infections:

There are some great herbal aids for sinus infections. Teas are the best because of the steam like warmth provide better purification(antiseptic) as well as creating a greater absorption.  mouth rinses are as well good providing anti-septic, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties

Sinus infections are primarily caused by toxin overload and create a bacteria haven causing excess mucus. This in tern causes a stress on the respiratory and central nervous system and immune system because now these systems have to work harder to maintain a minimal of good health causing tiredness, fatigue, irritability, headache. and cold like symptoms as well as excessive mucus flow. (nasal drip).

The key to helping a sinus infection is to detox the nasal and bronchial passages from both bacterial and viral and microbial properties then to aid in relief of the mucus membrane from excessive drainage of mucus throughout then to begin the actual healing process.

Also it is important to stay away from all dairy products to reduce any additional enzymes that will create unnecessary mucous and mucous membrane irritation(s)

Some Good herbal teas are as follows:

    Echinacea/ Goldenseal: anti-bacterial anti-septic
    Thyme: anti-bacterial/ anti- viral
    Oregano: Anti-Bacterial, Anti- Viral
Apple Cider vinegar:  antiseptic and demuculant
Cinnamon: ( well diluted and in very small doses) Anti-septic
Licorice root: for its powerful healing properties of membrane walls
    Lavender: anti-microbial
Marshmallow Root: demuculant will help sooth irritated membrane walls.

    A Powerful Herbal Nasal Spray:
For near imediate relive from nasal infections use the following recipe in a nasal sprayer 2 times daily
    You will need:
1 tablespoon of dried godenseal root
    1 tablespoon of echinacea root
    1 cup of distilled water
    Directions:
Bring 1 cup of distilled water to a boil in a non aluminum saucepan add herbs and stir well cover and lower heat to a low simmer for 30 minutes. Let cool and stain 3 times through a coffee filter or a fine cotton cloth.  fill nasal sprayer and breath in through each nostril while spraying into while closing the other nostril.  this can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 4 days before a new batch is needed to be made.

For more severe cases add 1 tablespoon of raw wildflower honey into mixture and completely disolve before adding to sprayer ( when adding honey you do not have to refrigerate and the shelf life will be good for an easy 10 days.
Your sinus’ will immediately decongest and clear the nasal and upper nasal passages, this is due to the powerful detox and antiseptic properties in the berberine in the golden seal root. The anti bacterial properties in the echinacea will help with any bacterial infections that may be present and in a very mild way aid in strengthening the immune system subliminally.

    A few good mouth rinses:

Thyme, peppermint:This will act as a antiseptic while opening both the nasal and bronchial passages.
Apple Cider Vinegar; For its antibacterial properties and healing properties from the present levels of pectin.

A good mouth rinse/Gargle Recipe for nasal infections:

    You will need:

    • 2 tablespoons of dried thyme leaves
    • 16 oz. of distilled water
    • 3 tablespoons of dried marshmallow root
    • 2 drops of Pre-diluted essential oil of oregano to 2 percent
    • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider vinegar
    • 2 drops of Pre-diluted essential oil of peppermint  (or 2 tablespoons of dried peppermint leaves)
    • 2 tablespoons of dried licorice root herb

    Directions:
Bring  distilled water to a boil and add all dried herbs,  Bring heat to a very low simmer, Place a lid on the pot (any herbal oils distilled will return to the water)
for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool, Press and strain soaked herbs into a sterile jar.

rinse or gargle 2-3 times a day this will also help a sore and irritated throat especially due to mucus drain/drip.

Note if you have blood pressure issues do not use licorice root

Medicine In The Event Of A Disaster – The Impact Of The Loss Of Pharmaceuticals

Click here to view the original post.

Medicine In The Event Of A Disaster – The Impact Of The Loss Of Pharmaceuticals

In the event of a disaster, the loss of modern medicines and the pharmaceutical industries is something that worries a lot of people. They may well be right to be worried, as the loss of medical facilities would quite literally deal a death-blow to many suffering individuals. A lack of vaccines would also be a problem – although probably not for a few years. However, it’s not all bad news. Surprisingly, the loss of chemical-based pharma may actually benefit the world in some ways. Here is a brief look at the problems which may arise without pharmaceutical companies, and some of the benefits.
    Vaccines
One of the most problematic effects of a loss of modern pharma is undoubtedly a loss of vaccines. Vaccines have rendered much of humanity safe from diseases which used to routinely wipe thousands of us out each year. It is estimated [1] that vaccines have saved 732,000 children’s lives since 1994. Vaccines have effectively wiped out deadly diseases like polio, smallpox, and measles. Moreover, they’re not just good for the vaccinated individual. Modern humanity relies upon something called ‘herd immunity’, which is very roughly explained as the protective effect which vaccinated individuals hold over the ‘herd’ as a whole, due to their being little scope for the diseases to get a foothold in humanity – “the risk of infection among susceptible individuals in a population is reduced by the presence and proximity of immune individuals” [2]. Worryingly, the anti-vax movement has already reduced herd immunity significantly in the USA – incidences of measles, rubella and so on are up- massively in the USA compared to nations where the anti-vax movement is not quite so strong. Not everybody is able to be vaccinated, due to specific vulnerabilities they may have (an allergy to vaccines, for example, or a weakened immune system). Therefore, not vaccinating your child puts not only your own child at risk, but all of these other people as well. A recent outbreak of measles at Disneyland has been comprehensively linked to “a decline in child vaccinations” [3] – a worrying development.
    Not All Bad News
The loss of vaccines would, therefore, be a major problem, which would undoubtedly cut swathes through the human population. However, assuming that the population were reduced considerably in the event of an emergency (a gloomy prediction, but potentially accurate), those who survived could take some comfort. While these diseases would still be present, they would find it far less easy to spread and mutate amongst a smaller, less urbanised population. Furthermore, survivors would undoubtedly have gained a strengthened immune system during the survival process, which would stand them in good stead from an evolutionary point of view. Finally, those with a good working knowledge of herbs, herbal medicine, and nutrition would have far better immune systems to protect them against these diseases, and would be far better prepared to treat them in the event that they did occur.
    The Environment
On a more positive note, surprisingly, when it comes to general health, the loss of the pharmaceutical industry might actually be a good thing. Modern society, you see, is addicted to pills in a shockingly addicted to pills – and all those pills which we pop have a definite effect on the environment. Pharmaceutical pollution is a serious ecological issue. As humans have to live in the environment, it’s also a human health issue. Not only do pharmaceuticals like steroids often end up in human drinking water after being excreted, they frequently end up being consumed by animals, including livestock. Humans then consume the animals, thus also consuming all of the pharmaceuticals that these animals have drunk in. Obviously this is not ideal – pharmaceuticals should, ideally, be used as a last resort when nothing else will work. Putting alien chemicals into your body when you don’t need them for vaccination or healing purposes is always a bad idea. The loss of the pharmaceutical companies would undoubtedly ensure that the things we eat and drink are to some degree more natural and healthier.
    Pain
Pain is an absolutely crippling problem for many of us, which absolutely needs to be dealt with in the most effective way possible. However, far too many of us rely on chemical painkillers to deal with the slightest of maladies. Harvard School of Medicine point out that prescriptions for opioid painkillers have increased “tenfold since 1990” [4]. Britain’s BBC reports with some bemusement that Americans consume 80% of the world’s opioid painkillers, and pop heavy-duty pills for something as simple (and transient) as a stress headache. More worryingly, opioids are highly addictive. It is estimated that the vast majority of opioid overdoses in the US come not from heroin, but from prescription painkillers. Furthermore, some are led through painkillers down a path which leads to illegal substances. CNN report that “Today’s typical heroin addict starts at 23, is more likely to live in the affluent suburbs, and was likely unwittingly led to heroin through painkillers prescribed by his or her doctor” [5]. Far better to choose a more natural method of pain relief for minor aches. There are plenty of herbs which work as natural painkillers – a quick perusal through this blog will provide ample options – and they’re all a lot better for you than pharmaceuticals!

5 vital Elements of Prepping to Survive Realistically

Click here to view the original post.
In this Post I will layout the 5 major elements of realistically being prepared as all as countermeasures against obstacles when a preparedness plan is needed.

    First,
For those of you that have been watching my video channel, reading my posts or subscribed to my blog I have said this, Food, Water, “PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS”  In this post I will be adding another vital element of preparedness; Important Papers and as the first element of the matrix of realistic preparedness.

    Important Papers:
This will be vital to identify yourselves as a LEGAL U.S. CITIZEN, as well as prove who you say you are is true.  This is more particularly for Civil Unrest and Martial Law. Their will be Government Control Points Managed by the Military, Fema, D.O.H.S. and depending at its severity the U.N.

    Food:
In August of 2013 the LARGET Food Grab was initiated, on the largest Freeze dried manufacturer by purchasing Large amounts of food with the excuse that the government is feeding something was coming storm wise so FEMA wanted to be prepared as they were with the trailers.( notice many people are moving out of there homes and fultiming in RV’s.

The largest Gun grab “SEEMED” to look like it failed so the Government as the food are making massive purchases of Ammo. this all limits the peoples abilities.

    Water:
But what about water??? in NY a bill has passed and as citizens pay for water to come into the residence they now will have to pay for it again to leave and go down the drain. now creating 2 fees that will not be affordable to a individual and as a result less water will be used and then Personal Hygiene begins to degrade and bacterias form. as an illness  So now medicine is needed; But water is mores needed for proper hydration and absorption of medicine.

    Medicine:
They are regulating Medicine through a government healthcare plan as a result of OBAMACARE medications as of January 2012 are no longer being manufactured . These meds include
    Meds for those with

    • Disabilities of the brain
    • Diabetes
    • Addictions
    • General overall Health

Read about the herbal survivalist that will explain what I am about to say.

    Important Papers,Food, Water, Medicine,
    “Personal Hygiene Products”

Look at this list backwards; if there is a lack of personal hygiene products what will happen? lack of personal hygiene = “Bacteria(s) 2. Bacteria(s) = illness’ which need medicine to heal or repair or eliminate. 3. Illness’ need medicine but also nutritional supplementation(s).  In order to provide true nutrition to ALL our main systems we need Good Food and a Pure Water Source to maintain overall hydration health for this to gets applied to all our main systems. Removing one element from the necessary elements to survive will effect all the main systems of the human body; Respiratory, Circulatory, Central Nervous System as well as the skeletal and muscular system.

Secondly,On a water system I highly recommend and have myself is the Mini Works MSR micro filter . This is issued to the US marines. Also note others due to wear from the dirty water supplies need to be replaced yes, (the Whole Filtering System) this unit has a maintenance kit that is very inexpensive and is comparable and if not bet than the other models out there I also cary a spare filter with my system.

Thirdly, People must work together and not try to delegate all survival tasks and resources to themselves but with realistic and reliable individuals also remember we should also take glare of the disabled and the elderly regardlessly. and above all we MUST put GOD FIRST and include him in all we do plan and learn. Go to the post Hope Herbs and the graces off God and after you read it watch the short training video at the end and you will be amazed what you just learned and pass it around.

    Herbal Medicine and its Controversies

Click here to view the original post.

Why Are Herbal Remedies So Controversial?
This is a good question. Despite helping millions of people for thousands of years, herbal remedies, homeopathy, and other alternative medicines are still far from being accepted by western society. Medical research council’s, doctors, and the general public are dubious about the benefits of medicines that don’t come pre-packaged with a ‘This is Modern Medicine Built in a Laboratory’ sticker attached.
So why are these types of medicines controversial, and does it matter anyway?
    Unvetted Sources
The first thing to acknowledge in this debate is that not all alternative medicine is legitimate. In some cases, companies try to claim their product works as an alternative cure for medical conditions when it has little to no medicinial qualities.
This leads back to the blessing and curse of alternative medicine: it’s not regulated. Because it doesn’t have a governing body in the same way traditional medicine does, it’s possible for medicines to call themselves “herbal” and be sold, without having to prove that they work.
If a company can put whatever what they want on a label and claim that it helps treat a condition, then someone, somewhere, will do so to make a quick profit. But that doesn’t mean all alternative medicines are like that. The key is to understand that you can’t tar all alternative medicine with the same brush. This is where just a little intelligence is needed. Many accepted modern medicines can do more harm than good, yet you don’t see people refusing life-saving operations. So why do people believe that because one alternative medicine doesn’t work for them, that none will?
    Little Profit
The real cause of the controversy surrounding alternative medicine is this: there’s limit profit in it. What we mean is, compared to the $3 trillion US healthcare system, there is next to no money in this kind of healthcare. You can’t monopolize natural remedies (though some companies have tried) in the same way you can patent a drug, hike the price, and make millions in the process. In many ways, alternative medicine is about compassionate medicine; unlike the health insurance companies, hospitals, and drug manufacturers who are in business to make mega money, alternative medicine practitioners are in the game because they believe in their product and want to help people.
But make no mistake: if it was possible to make a trillion dollars from alternative medicine, you would see it everywhere. The government would back it, you’d see advertisements for it on TV, doctors would prescribe it, and it would generally become part of our way of life.
Money has always driven our healthcare system, and continues to do so. Things that sell get airtime, and things that don’t get ignored. You only need to look at the staggering quantities of anti-depressant pills that are prescribed to the public each year, despite their effectiveness continually called into question. That a three month supply of the pills can cost in excess of $1000 is surely just a strange coincidence.
    Be Wary Of Source
The healthcare system doesn’t want natural remedies to become popular; it’s bad for business. You should always question why somebody is telling you something. Even if – and this isn’t true – natural remedies had zero effectiveness, they definitely don’t do any harm. So why would there be a campaign against something that isn’t bad? Shouldn’t there be more of a focus on things that actually might harm you?
There’s been a conscious and constant stream of disinformation spread about natural products, and it hasn’t been for our benefit. You only have to look back to the beginning of the controversy to understand its motives. Natural remedies were hugely popular in the early 19th century, but when the American Medical Association came only in 1844, they deemed natural medicines to their rival, began a campaign to destroy its credibility, most damagingly by claiming it to be “unscientific”.
    Final Thoughts
Despite what the figureheads and the media say about alternative remedies, there’s one thing they can’t dispute or stop: people themselves saying that it works. For the people who have had their epilepsy, PTSD, infections, flu, and diabetes, along with many other conditions, helped by natural medicines, they already have their answer. When you can’t trust the people telling you the news, it’s time to just try it and see for yourself that it works.

Beating The ‘Dirty Survivalists’ Myth – How To Keep Clean The Natural Way
Cleanliness is very important. Drugs and improved knowledge of anatomy have helped us to advance medically, sure, but few things have revolutionized the preservation of human health quite so much as the discovery of the importance of hygiene. Poor hygiene in hospitals is frequently described with no exaggeration as “a matter of life and death” [1]. Furthermore, a clean and fresh body and environment is incredibly good for us, psychologically speaking. Researchers have found that personal cleanliness renders the judgement of others upon us “less severe” [2]. Other sources claim that a clean home, as well as harboring fewer germs, can render us happier, less stressed, and less likely to experience conflict in our personal lives. However, these days we tend to associate cleaning with the use of artificial chemicals. What on earth would we do were these chemicals denied us? Would we have to resort to living in filth? Well, no. There are plenty of natural ways to keep ourselves and our environments clean and serene. Here are just a few.
    Cleaning Your Home
A clean environment in which to live is vital on many levels. Not only does it keep you and your family healthy, it also makes you feel in control of your life, and provides a pleasant impression for visitors. It also ensures that your home – wherever or whatever it be – is likely to be better maintained than it otherwise would. In today’s world, home insurers are likely to lower premiums for properties which are demonstrably clean and well-kept, as this implies that the house is less likely to attract pests, or generally fall into the kind of disrepair which may necessitate a payout. Although insurance may not be an issue in the potential world of tomorrow, home maintenance probably will be. Letting dirt accumulate quickly leads to the erosion of the fabric of your home, as well as encouraging vermin and insect pests to set up shop there and get to work on your valuable food supplies (all while distributing germs liberally through your pantry). Without the aid of chemical cleaning tools, there are plenty of alternatives which you can use to keep home degradation at bay. Here are just a few of them:
Vinegar – Vinegar, with its acidic properties, is a fantastic cleaning tool. It’s not hard to come by, either. As long as someone is making wine or cider, you can use the leftovers to make vinegar. As Ohio State University point out [3], however, the corrosive properties of vinegar are so great that you’d be advised to make it in a wooden rather than a metal container. Once you have your vinegar (white ideally), mix it into a solution of nine parts water, one part vinegar, and use it the way you would a chemical antibacterial spray. You’ll be amazed at how effective it is!
Lemon Oil – Lemon oil, like vinegar, is also acidic and antibacterial. It has the advantage over vinegar of smelling much nicer! You can use a lemon sliced in half to clean shiny metal surfaces like brass – if they’re particularly troublesome, and need an abrasive scrub, add salt and scrub off with the lemon. A lemon rubbed over a tough stain and left overnight will work wonders at stain removal, and lemon juice kills a whole host of harmful germs.
Baking Soda – If you can get hold of baking soda, then you’re in luck. Baking soda is not the easiest thing to manufacture, but neither is it impossible in a post-industrial world. Baking soda neutralizes odors as well as often removing stains, making it a fantastic all-purpose cleaner.
Salt – Salt, particularly kosher salt, is a great antiseptic. A salt solution mixed with vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, or essential herb oils (for a great-scented home) and spritzed onto problem areas will make an amazing cleaning material. It provides that extra abrasive touch needed for tougher dirt.
    Cleaning Yourself
Personal hygiene is very important for both physical and psychological health. In truth, we probably don’t need to wash quite as often as we do. Experts believe that we “over-bathe” [4] in modern society, which is actually counterproductive as it involves washing away protective substances in our skin and hair which actually protect and deodorize us. Having said this, however, bathing fulfils an important psychological need for many of us, and it’s certainly true that keeping ourselves clean makes others think much better of us. With this in mind, here are a few natural products which you can use to keep yourself fresh and lovely.
Honey – It may sound odd, given how sticky the stuff is, but you can wash your hair in honey. It’s great at getting rid of unwanted grease in your hair and, unlike modern detergent shampoos, it does it without stripping your hair of essential oils. It’s a fantastic conditioner as well. Use 1 part honey to 3 parts water, and add some essential oils should you feel like a sensual, scented experience. Lavender oil works particularly well. Carrot seed oil is also great for hair nourishment, if you have trouble with brittle hair and frizz.
Apple Cider Vinegar – Apple cider vinegar is a great all-purpose cleanser for both hair and body. It’ll get rid of any grime and dirt with ease. If you fear that you’ll smell a bit ‘vinegary’ after use, then add a few drops of some scented herbal oil.
Saponins –  Saponins are herbs which can be induced to lather up rather like soaps, and have similar cleansing benefits. Examples include wild yam, ginseng, licorice, horsechestnuts, alfalfa, sarsaparilla and lily of the valley. These (usually the roots) must be mashed, and added to water to make a pleasing lather which you can use to wash your face and body.
