The government claims we do not need guns for self defence. I beg to differ!!!
It is even illegal in Australia for law abiding citizens to purchase or carry pepper spray or tasers. I say forget about the pepper spray & tasers, we want to be legally allowed to purchase & carry firearms for the purpose of self defence & for the defence of our families. This is a human right that we Australian citizens are being denied by our government.
Gun confiscation was never anything to do with the safety of Australian citizens, the fact that there have been no mass shootings since the Port Arthur massacre has nothing to do with it. People are killing other people with knives, such as the massacre in China, & the terrorist attack in London, no guns were used in these killings. But we NEED to be able to use a gun for our defence, do you really want to have to get into a knife fight or defend yourself with just your fists against a bigger person? This is not sensible or practicle.
Farmers used to be able to carry hand guns whilst they went about their daily work. Some carried snake guns which were cut down .410 shotguns for protection against snakes. Not any more. These were law abiding people who were suddenly classed as criminals because the government deemed it so! Shotguns, the farmer’s stock in trade along with the little .22 rimfire rifle is now under attack by the Greens & the anti-gun lobby. Semi-auto .22s have already been banned, & now they want our shotguns as well!!!
As I see it it is no good us complaining & protesting against more gun control & the loss of our human rights. We need to put an end to this. Our government is supposed to be looking after our well being, that means ALL OF US. Not just big companies, not just the wealthy, but ALL OF US. This is no longer happening. Whether it be the environment, our safety, our freedoms, our human rights, our well being, or the right to choose our own lifestyle, the right to defend ourselves, our families & our homes. All that is gone now.
I think Australians need to ask themselves where this is all going, is there no end to the government seemingly uncaring attitude. If we have lost the right to defend ourselves & our families without risk of prosecution, then what rights do we have left that matters? People are dieing out there! Do you think that this can’t happen to you? If the preservation of our freedom & the right to defend ourselves is NOT the most important thing in our lives, what is?
During 2016, the number of Sexual assault victims increased for the fifth consecutive year, up from 21,948 victims in 2015 to 23,052 victims, to reach their highest levels in seven years. The largest increases occurred in Tasmania (up 15% or 27 victims) and Victoria (up 14% or 662 victims). In contrast, the number of Sexual assault victims decreased in the Northern Territory (down 6% or 23 victims) and South Australia (down 4% or 69 victims) over the same period. (Tables 1 & 6)
Across all of the selected states and territories for which relationship of offender to victim data was available, most Sexual assault victims knew their offender and more frequently reported experiencing victimisation by a non-family member (which may include an ex-partner, friend, acquaintance, neighbour, employee, employer, co-worker, guardian, carer, teacher etc.). (Table 11)
In 2016, the number of victims of FDV-related Sexual assault rose by 6%, up 491 victims from 2015 to reach 8,210 victims. The majority of these victims (85%) were female (6,942 victims). (Table 22)
ROBBERIES RISE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS
The total number of Robbery victims rose (5%) for the first time since 2010, up from 8,968 victims in 2015 to 9,403 victims. The increase was largely driven by an increase in victims of Armed robbery, up 7% or 328 victims nationally. (Table 1)
This is practically a daily occurrence now, in fact many rapes & attacks may go unreported. Here in NSW Australia it is illegal to carry anything with which to defende yourself, no sprays, no batons, no tasers, & of course no guns. The new 2017 National Firearms Agreement also states that firearms may NOT be used in defence of self, family or property in home invasions. We are left defenceless unless we can find something in the house with which to defend ourselves, and even then it may not be enough against superior odds.
WHY has the Australian government made it illegal for Australian citizens to carry anything that may aid them in defending themselves against violent physical attacks, rape & murder? WHY has the Australian government made it illegal in the new National Firearms Agreement for Australian citizens to use a firearm in defence of their lives in a home invasion!?
