Of all the disasters that might happen in the near future, a nuclear war is the one I fear most. Not only are tensions between the United States and Russia higher than ever, the increasing number of Jihadists–who are not deterred by the threat of mutually assured destruction–means we are in more danger every single […]

WASHINGTON — America’s leaders have made elaborate preparations to survive a nuclear war while everyone else apparently dies.

The plans go back decades and only cover top government officials, according to a new book.

“In the early 1950s, the government really hoped and believed it would be able to save most Americans,” writer Garrett M. Graff told The Washington Post. But “plans and ambitions gradually shrunk until, realistically, the best they could hope to do is save the senior leadership.”

Graff describes the elaborate plan in the book “Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself – While the Rest of Us Die.”

Graff discovered that the federal government maintains several huge secret underground fortresses where officials, officers and politicians — but not average citizens — would survive nuclear war in relative luxury. One of them, Raven Rock near the Pennsylvania/Maryland state line, contains several freestanding multi-story buildings with 900,000 square feet of office space.

Raven Rock is where government leaders and top brass from the Pentagon would flee in the case of an attack on Washington D.C., Graff revealed. Former Vice President Dick Cheney hid there briefly after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The Declaration of Independence Would Be Stored, Too

Another underground complex, Mount Weather in Virginia, once was where the Supreme Court, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and paintings from the National Gallery of Art would be kept safe. That still might be the case, The Post reported.

The exact details of the bunkers and evacuation plans are unknown because they are classified. Graff was able to learn some details of the plans by sifting through declassified documents.

Graff became interested in the federal government’s survival plans when a coworker found a misplaced government ID and gave it to Graff.

“The back of the ID had these evacuation instructions on it,” Graff told The Post. “And so I got on Google Maps and followed the instructions and they led to a road that very clearly went into the side of a mountain, and you can see on the Google satellite view big concrete bunker doors.”

Some tidbits about those plans include:

  • The government has a number of custom-built 747s that are “fully staffed with battle planners and war planners and meteorologists and anything else you might need to run a nuclear war,” Graff said.
  • The flying war rooms are protected from electromagnetic pulse attacks with a fine wire mess. They can communicate with nuclear submarines via a five-mile-long wire.
  • The federal government’s last major effort to help citizens survive nuclear war in the 1960s involved the distribution of 150 million pounds of wheat crackers and biscuits to fallout shelters across the country.

Uncle Sam, it seems, is a prepper.

What the IRS Plans to Do in Case of a Nuclear War Will Leave You in Stitches

Click here to view the original post.

Bear with me for a moment, because what I’m about to say will be grim at first, but I assure you that it has a strange and perhaps hilarious payoff.

I want you to imagine for moment, what your life might be like after a nuclear war. Put yourself in the place of someone who is clinging to a meager existence after the complete and utter collapse of society. It’s been several weeks since you emerged from your basement or fallout shelter. You are now just scraping by in a desolate community that you once called home.

Your body aches with hunger pangs, as you ration what little food you have, day by day. Your neighbors are a shell of their former selves. The few that have survived, are either mentally unwell, hungry, or are suffering from the effects of radiation sickness. You’re not sure if it’s safe to go outside anymore, as gunshots can be periodically heard in the distance, day and night.

And even if you did leave, you’re not sure if there’s anywhere you could go. The freeways are clogged with abandoned vehicles, the local shops are empty, and fuel is incredibly hard to come by.  You’d never make it far.

So you remain in your home, which looks like it’s been through a hurricane. The roofing is stripped, the windows are shattered and boarded up, and the paint is ever so slightly peeled and darkened after enduring the distant heat of a nuclear blast. You sit at home, and wish that everything could go back to the way it was before; when society functioned, the streets were clean, food was plentiful, and the government still existed.

Then you hear a knock at the door. Your heart is pounding, because you’re not sure if you should be afraid of who is on the other side, or grateful that some kind of disaster relief has finally arrived. You cautiously approach the door and look through the peephole. Much to your surprise, there is a strange man patiently waiting outside. He’s wearing a tattered business suit, broken glasses, and a bicycle helmet. Who could this be?

You slowly open the door just a few inches, and with a furrowed brow, you quietly ask him what he wants. He holds up a blue and white ID badge that says “IRS” in thick black letters. He asks you, without a hint of jest, if you’ve filed your tax return this year.

Sound outlandish? It is, but don’t tell that to the IRS. It turns out that since the Cold War, the Internal Revenue Service has established plans for how their bureaucracy would operate after a nuclear war. Their contingency plans are published in their employee handbooks, which the New York Times reported on back in 1989.

An addition to the Internal Revenue Manual, which is supposed to guide the conduct of all I.R.S. employees, declares that if the bomb is dropped, ”operations will be concentrated on collecting the taxes which will produce the greater revenue yield.”

An I.R.S. spokesman, Johnell Hunter, said today that the new section -titled ”National Emergency Operations” – had been added to the manual in response to a directive to Government departments from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Within 30 days of an attack emergency, the agency would expect to resume assessing and collecting taxes. At that time, the manual states, many employees might find themselves reassigned to carry out essential functions ”regardless of and without any effect on the current positions or grades of the employee.”

Previous iterations of this plan sound no less insane. In 1982, the Washington Post reported on their  “Design of an Emergency Tax System” which talked about how the US government would continue to collect revenue, even if the tax system was completely destroyed. The author of the report suggested enforcing a 20% sales tax on all goods and services.

So try to imagine how this would go down. After the apocalypse the IRS thinks that it’s going to send their agents and officers out into an utterly devastated and lawless country, and ask starving people to cough up money that is most certainly worthless. I mean, that’s the only way that taxes could be collected right? It’s not like you could put a check in the mail. You couldn’t call them, and share the routing number of your bank account (if it even still exists). You couldn’t file your taxes online. The IRS would have to come to you.

And in an economy that would at least temporarily revert back to bartering, how would they collect any kind of tax, much less a 20% sales tax? If you traded a blanket with your neighbor in exchange for five cans of food, are they going to tell you that you owe them one of those cans? And how many people I wonder, would assume that they’re being scammed when an IRS agent knocks on their door?

Even if the IRS survives a nuclear war, I have a feeling that their employees who are sent out to collect taxes, wouldn’t live for very long.

Risk Of Nuclear War Growing, ‘Accidents Inevitable’ – New UN Report

Risk Of Nuclear War Growing, ‘Accidents Inevitable’ – New UN Report

The risk of an accidental nuclear war is increasing and likely to grow in the years ahead. That’s the conclusion of Understanding Nuclear Weapons, a new report from the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNDIR).

“The complexity of interactions in the tightly coupled systems linked to the management and operation of nuclear stockpiles make accidents inevitable,” the report states.

A simple sensor malfunction or computer glitch can trigger the launch or detonation of nuclear weapons, the report says. The danger from nuclear weapons is increasing for a wide variety of reasons, some of which have little to do with politics.

The UNDIR experts believe the danger of an accidental nuclear war is greater than at any time since the end of the Cold War in 1991 — and that the danger will continue growing. Understanding Nuclear Weapons provides several reasons to be concerned about accidental nuclear war.

Are You Ready For A Downed Grid? The Next Generation In Solar Backup Generators Is Finally Here!

“The threat of a nuclear weapon detonation event in 2017 is arguably at its highest in the 26 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union,” the report stated.

A few of the scenarios that make accidental nuclear war possible include:

  • Lack of training on the part of nations, such North Korea, that have little expertise in controlling nuclear weapons.
  • Over-reliance on automated command and control systems, which make it faster and easier to launch a nuke.
  • Removal of human judgement from the decision-making process. During the Cold War, several accidental missile launches were avoided when military officers realized something was wrong and refused to push the button.
  • Stolen nuclear weapons from terrorists.
  • Cyberattacks and hacking of nuclear weapons.
  • The malfunctioning of old nuclear weapons.

President Trump has ordered a massive review of all US nuclear weapons. The review is designed to see how America’s nuclear arsenal can be modernized.

“All the nuclear-armed States have extensive nuclear modernization programs underway and appear to plan to retain large nuclear arsenals for the indefinite future,” UNDIR concluded.

North Korea Official Warns: ‘Thermonuclear War May Break Out At Any Moment’

PYONGYANG – A pair of high-ranking North Korean officials are warning that the world is on the brink of nuclear war due to U.S. involvement.

“The United States are disturbing the peace and global stability, insisting in a gangster logic,” North Koran foreign minister Han Song-Ryol said over the weekend.

Han added that “nuclear war could break out at any moment” and that the country will continue missile tests “on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis” no matter what the rest of the world thinks.

Meanwhile, Kim In Ryong, North Korea’s deputy United Nations ambassador, warned of “a dangerous situation in which a thermonuclear war may break out at any minute.”

Kim called the Korean peninsula “the world’s biggest hot spot.”

“[North Korea] is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the U.S.,”

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, during a visit to South Korea, said the “people of North Korea” and “the military of North Korea” should not “mistake the resolve of the United States of America to stand with our allies.”

“But all options are on the table as we continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of South Korea for denuclearization of this peninsula and for the long-term prosperity and freedom of the people of South Korea,” Pence said.

Former CIA Director Warns Of Attack That ‘Would Blackout North America And Kill Millions’

WASHINGTON — A former CIA director is warning that it would be “profoundly dangerous” to underestimate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who he calls a “sociopath” who doesn’t follow the standard protocol on nuclear weapons.

James Woolsey, CIA director under President Clinton, and Peter Vincent Pry, chief of staff of the congressional EMP Commission, co-wrote a column for The Washington Times asserting that the U.S. isn’t prepared for North Korea’s threat.

“Kim Jong-un is a sociopath who inherited absolute power from his father and grandfather,” Woolsey and Pry wrote. “Like them, Kim is mentally and spiritually absolutely corrupted. Kim is so suspicious of his own followers that he is purging his political and military elites, inventing sadistically ingenious ways of killing even close relatives.”

Are You Prepared For A Downed Grid? Get Backup Electricity Today!

They called him “Caligula in the third generation, armed with nuclear weapons.”

“His paranoid personality is exactly the type to start a nuclear war,” they wrote in the March 26 column.

Western analysists, they wrote, “wrongly assume” that North Korea will follow a testing regime “similar to that for U.S. missiles,” with multiple flight tests. Instead, North Korea is rushing untested weapons into deployment.

“North Korea sees itself in a long nuclear crisis with the United States, always on the verge of nuclear war, necessitating that missiles get rushed out the door based on component testing and maybe some minimal flight testing,” they wrote. “Pyongyang is in a panic, like Moscow during World War II rushing not properly tested tanks to the front from the factory floor — except Pyongyang’s panic is over nuclear war.”

That explains why North Korea deployed 30 intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) for nine years without flight testing them until recently, they wrote. The country also has deployed mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) without flight testing.

“Pyongyang’s panic explains why we should be a lot more worried about their KMS-3 and KMS-4 satellites orbiting over the U.S. If nuclear-armed, these satellites could make an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack that would blackout North America and kill millions,” Woolsey and Pry wrote. “Surprise EMP attack by satellite is such an unconventional gambit it is still not on the mental radar screens of most analysts — exactly as Pyongyang hopes.”

The two men asserted that the U.S. must do four things to protect itself:

  • “Harden the national electric grid against EMP and cyberattack, starting by appointing new commissioners to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission who care more about national security than essentially representing the electric utilities.
  • “Redeploy Aegis guided missile cruisers to plug holes in the National Missile Defense, especially in the southern Gulf coastal states — Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas.
  • “Modernize the U.S. nuclear deterrent, including development of EMP and cyber weapons capable of neutralizing nuclear missile threats preemptively.
  • “Launch a new Manhattan Project to resurrect President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative and deploy space-based missile defenses to make preemptive warfare unnecessary.”

‘Little Doubt’ North Korea Is Prepping For First-Strike Nuclear War, Expert Says

SEOUL — An expert on Asian politics says he has “little doubt” that North Korea is preparing for a first-strike nuclear attack against America and its allies in light of recent activity within the Communist country.

“North Korea’s military exercises leave little doubt that Pyongyang plans to use large numbers of nuclear weapons against U.S. forces throughout Japan and South Korea to blunt an invasion,” Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, wrote in Foreign Policy. “North Korean defectors have claimed that the country’s leaders hope that by inflicting mass casualties and destruction in the early days of a conflict, they can force the United States and South Korea to recoil from their invasion.”

Lewis was referencing a test this month in which North Korea launched four missiles from the northwest corner of the nation. They traveled more than 600 miles before landing in the Sea of Japan.

Are You Prepared For A Downed Grid? Get Backup Electricity Today!

North Korean then released a map that “showed all four missiles landing on an arc that stretched down to the [U.S.] Marine Corps Air Station near Iwakuni, Japan,” Lewis wrote.

Just as significant, North Korea previously tested its missiles from a central location but has been changing launch sites recently.

“These aren’t missile tests, they are military exercises,” Lewis wrote. “North Korea knows the missiles work. What the military units are doing now is practicing — practicing for a nuclear war.”

North Korea is conducting the missile tests at the same time that U.S. and South Korean forces are taking part in exercises in the region involving tens of thousands of personnel, as well as an aircraft carrier, bombers and F-35 aircraft out of Iwakuni – the same base North Korea could target.

The U.S.-South Korean drills are a “rehearsal” and part of a war plan known as OPLAN 5015, which “has been described as a pre-emptive strike against North Korea,” Lewis wrote.

All sides have plans to strike first, Lewis added.

“That means, in a crisis, the pressure will be to escalate,” he wrote. “Whatever restraint Kim [Jong un] or [Donald] Trump might show — and let’s be honest, our expectations here are not high — each will face enormous pressure to start the attack lest his opponent beat him to the punch.”

Is Their Something About to Happen? Luxury Bunker Sales Going Through the Roof

Click here to view the original post.

bomb shelter fallout shelterWhen ordinary people begin to accumulate survival gear and build bunkers in their back yards, it’s a sign of the times. It’s what ordinary people did throughout the Cold War, and it’s what a lot of ordinary people have been doing since 9/11. But when rich people start building bunkers and stockpiling food and weapons, it’s not just a sign of the times. It’s a sign that something may be about to go down.

That’s because the wealthy know and understand things that the rest of us often miss. If something bad were coming down the pike, they’d probably know it before we do. I’m not implying some grand conspiracy when I say that. I don’t rule out that there are elites in the world who would conspire against us, but I doubt that every single millionaire in the world is in cahoots to screw us over and leave us behind when things get ugly. The wealthy of the world are not a monolith.

But what they are is smart. With the exception of trust fund babies, no one gets rich by being simpleminded. Even the folks who get rich by leaching off of corrupt governments need to be cunning and savvy. Most however are entrepreneurs, and to be a successful entrepreneur you have to be sharp, and you must have a strong sense of cultural, geopolitical, and economic trends. And if you have a strong sense of where those winds are blowing, then you probably know if our world is on the cusp of something terrible. So when the rich start ducking for cover, so should you.

Which is alarming when you hear stories like this one from Kansas City, where a man is turning an abandoned nuclear silo into luxury bunkers:

Larry Hall, project manager and owner of the Luxury Survival Condo Project, says he feels safer with the doors closed.

He says he’s sold all 12 luxury condos in the former Atlas missile silo — which once housed a nuclear warhead — not far from Concordia, about two hours north of Wichita. He’s working on a second silo.

A full-floor unit is 1,820 square feet and costs $3 million. A half-floor unit, at 900 square feet, costs $1.5 million.

Survival is a unifying cause. Hall said his owners come from a variety of political beliefs and include people in international business, architecture, law and medicine. He said the owners don’t do interviews; efforts to reach them were unsuccessful.

The facility is 15 stories deep, contains multiple generators and air scrubbers for a wide variety of contaminants, a remote-controlled sniper post on the surface, and three armories which contain weapons and body armor. But it’s luxurious too. There are fireplaces, hardwood floors, walk-in closets, televisions that stream images of the outdoors, and a climate controlled swimming pool.

However, that’s not the only luxury bunker that’s being built. Last year the Hollywood Reporter revealed that the rich, famous, and powerful including Bill Gates have been building bunkers all over the country. Some of these facilities are multi-million dollar endeavors.

Gary Lynch, GM at Rising S Bunkers, a Texas-based company that specializes in underground bunkers and services scores of Los Angeles residences, says that sales at the most upscale end of the market — mainly to actors, pro athletes and politicians (who require signed NDAs) — have increased 700 percent this year compared with 2015, and overall sales have risen 150 percent. “Any time there is a turbulent political landscape, we see a spike in our sales. Given this election is as turbulent as it is, we are gearing up for an even bigger spike,” says marketing director Brad Roberson of sales of bunkers that start at $39,000 and can run $8.35 million or more (FYI, a 12-stall horse shelter is $98,500).

Adds Mike Peters, owner of Utah-based Ultimate Bunker, which builds high-end versions in California, Texas and Minnesota: “People are going for luxury [to] live underground because they see the future is going to be rough. Everyone I’ve talked to thinks we are doomed, no matter who is elected.” Robert Vicino, founder of Del Mar, Calif.-based Vivos, which constructs upscale community bunkers in Indiana (he believes coastal flooding scenarios preclude bunkers being safely built west of the Rockies), says, “Bill Gates has huge shelters under every one of his homes, in Rancho Santa Fe and Washington. His head of security visited with us a couple years ago, and for these multibillionaires, a few million is nothing. It’s really just the newest form of insurance.”

Meanwhile, another Texas company is trying to build a survival retreat for 1,600 people that will include 400 condos, an equestrian center, a golf course, and even helipads. It’s expected to cost $300 million. And this US company is building earthship bunkers that range in cost from $100,000 to $1.5 million.

All of these different companies offer different explanations for why their wealthy clients want these shelters. They’ve been given reasons that range from terrorism to pandemics to civil unrest. However, if you go through all of the sources that I’ve mentioned, you’ll find that the rich seem to fear nuclear war and another world war the most.

And that should give one pause. If the rich tend to have a good sense of where the world is going, and they’re so worried about nuclear war that they’re building multi-million dollar shelters, then we should take note. They know that something bad is coming and they’re not taking it lightly. Neither should the rest of us.

MOSCOW — Experts says the Russian government is preparing its citizens for nuclear war with the United States following a series of curious events, including 40 million of its citizens participating in four days of civil defense drills held Oct. 4-8.

The drills referenced a nuclear war.

“If that should one day happen, each of you must know where the nearest bomb shelter is,” state-controlled television network NTV reminded viewers.

That statement was followed by a video describing the country’s options should a nuclear strike occur. The video even showed schoolchildren putting on gas masks.

Around 200,000 emergency services personnel and 50,000 vehicles took part in the drill, RT news reported. State and local governments also participated in what was designed to coordinate Russia’s response to a nuclear attack.

Russia will use nuclear weapons if the United States interferes in its military operations in Syria, warned Evgeny Kiselyov, a TV host sometimes described as Russia’s propagandist in chief. Kiselyov said American impudence would take “on nuclear dimensions,” ABC News reported.

“Russian is tired of arrogant American abuse,” he said.

Some Russians Think Nuclear War Is Imminent

“These are the most serious tensions between Moscow and Washington in decades,” Sergei Markov, a member of the Moscow-based Civic Chamber, told The Daily Beast. “The war might begin even before the November elections in the U.S.”

Markov added, “I personally plan to stock 200 cans of pork to be ready for a potential war crisis, and I advise everybody to do the same.”

Russian authorities are also ordering local governments to build bomb fallout shelters. That was the case in St. Petersburg, where managers of the Zenit Arena – a soccer stadium not yet completed – were told to start constructing such shelters, The Daily Beast reported.

At least one Russian legislator had a chilling warning for the United States.

“I cannot understand why the West cannot just leave us in peace, let us be,” State Duma Deputy Vadim Dengin told The Beast. “Americans should realize that it will be their children looking for shelters, too, if they are serious about attacking Russia.”

As Off The Grid News reported, Russia’s elderly are stockpiling food, believing that a war with the United States is imminent.

10 Nuclear Survival Gear Items You Need To Get For SHTF

10 Nuclear Survival Gear Items You Need To Get For SHTF

Let’s Talk about Nuclear Survival Gear  today. I hear a lot going on about nuclear war with Russia. I would like to say up front that I do not think that is going to happen. Nuclear war with any of the big world powers is very unlikely.

If any world power launches a nuclear attack on anyone the rest of the world will retaliate. Putin may be many things but he is not a Nihilist. No one wants to scorch the world.

If we ever see a nuke set off It will be a lone wolf bomber. Or a group that is not affiliated with a country that doesn’t care about the outcome. I see the likeliness of a dirty bomb being set off in strategic locations to be more probable.

With that said having preps for a dirty bomb makes sense. If I’m wrong and Russia hits us with some nukes then the same gear will work. At least if there’s anything left. If you are in the area that gets hit it’s game over. No prep can save you from taking on a nuclear bomb.

Nuclear Survival Gear

Some of these you will probably know. Lists of nuclear survival gear are always going around. My buddy Matt sent me a link recently to one. It was bad. They had soap on the list. Yes, It can help but I’m sure you have soap anyway. I wanted ones you might not know.

Iodine Pills

I’m sure you’ve seen this one and might already have it in your preps. Potassium iodide pills are the first nuclear survival gear people think of. The price has come down significantly on the iOSAT pills since Fukushima.

Iodine pills are not a magical radiation pill, though. It only prevents radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland. It won’t help once the thyroid is damaged.

In the event of a nuclear attack, you want to begin immediately taking Potassium Iodide. You need to fill up the thyroid with stable iodine so no radioactive iodine gets in.

Prussian Blue

No, not the artist or laundry kind. The CDC says it is not that same. I can’t find any sources to either prove or disprove this.

Prussian Blue is a pill, by prescription, that can help remove radioactive cesium and thallium from people’s bodies. It traps radioactive cesium and thallium in the intestines and keeps them from being re-absorbed.

The radioactive materials then move through the intestines and are passed in bowel movements.

Prussian blue reduces the biological half-life of cesium from about 110 days to about 30 days and  thallium from about 8 days to about 3 days.

You will need to either ask your doctor about getting a prescription or poke around on the internet for a source to buy.

DTPA (Diethylenetriamine pentaacetate)

DTPA (Diethylenetriamine pentaacetate) is a medicine that can bind to radioactive plutonium, americium, and curium to decrease the amount of time it takes to get radioactive plutonium, americium, and curium out of the body.

It works by tightly binding to radioactive materials  then passing them  from the body in the urine.

It is best to take right after radiation exposure to reduce the time that the material is inside your body.

This too is by prescription only. Which makes no sense since it, not Prussian blue have off-label uses.

Radiation badge

Radiation badges are carried by first responders and people that work in and around radiation. These badges are a calmative indication of radiation exposure. So the meter will never reset. It, however, does not require power. It will fit in a wallet so you can carry it everywhere you go.

They will work great to check your exposure after an event. It will also show you how well you are avoiding radiation.

Geiger counter

There are a ton of Geiger counters on amazon. Many of them are well over $100 though. I know y’all don’t have tons of money floating around. Neither do I. There are some affordable smartphone ones. You just plug them into the headphone jack.

Or you could go the DIY route and make one. Here is a link to an Instructable on building a Geiger counter. It might be a project for the more experienced of you.

Radiation hazmat suit

Chem suits are pretty cheap on Amazon. Here is one for $12. I would not recommend getting a cheap one and deliberately going out in radiation.

I would use them for emergencies. Only use them when you have to. Best practices would be to stay inside.

I have also seen hazmat suits at army surplus stores. I would trust a mil surplus one. They overbuild everything.

Plastic sheeting

In a nuclear event, you want to seal up your home. Cover the windows, vents, and doors. You do not want radiation to get inside.

The more radiation you keep from getting inside the less you have to worry about removing. Only physical barriers will keep radiation from entering the body.

 Stored Water

Not much to add to this. You need stored water in your Nuclear Survival Gear preps. If you follow the rest of the advice I’m giving you and drink radiated water you’re screwed.

I almost left it off the list because you need to have water storage covered in basic preps anyway. Since water is so important I’m telling you again.

Sea Salt And Baking Soda

This is where the list of Nuclear Survival Gear gets weird. I like weird. And hopefully, you do too.

I came across this article on using sea salt and baking soda. It is kinda out there and suggests using diet for radiation and cancer (which I agree with).

One of the gems learned from this article is that Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium. Yup  good old baking soda binds with uranium.

It recommends soaking in a bath of sea salt and baking soda to draw out the radiation. Although it does seem like pseudo-science it may just help out. And both items should be in your preps anyway.

Ketone Esters

This one was a bit harder to track down sources for. I remember hearing Dom D’Agostino on the Tim Ferriss show mention ketones effect on radiation exposure.

Basic science supports the idea, that nutritional ketosis could preserve  the cellular, tissue and physiology of people exposed to radiation. He talks about this concept for astronauts but also for Japanese near Fukushima.

I like to be in at least mild ketosis the majority of the time. So I will be fine. If you don’t want to eat a ketogenic diet you have options now. This science paper stated that:

The invention relates to methods of using ketogenic compounds to protect against the adverse effects of radiation exposure, including ionizing radiation tissue damage. NIH inventors have discovered that ketone esters can be used to reduce tissue damage if administered before or after exposure to radiation. Specifically, the invention relates to esters and oligomers of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate that are capable of elevating blood levels of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate to sufficient levels to reduce cell death caused by radiation-induced damage of DNA and RNA. The development of effective radioprotectant molecules such as these is of great importance in reducing tissue damage following intentional or accidental radiation exposure. This discovery can also increase the therapeutic efficacy of radiation therapies by protecting non-target tissues from incidental radiation damage.

So by having some exogenous ketones as a prep you can start taking it as soon as you are exposed. New products are coming out all the time if the price on KetoCaNa is a little steep. With the benefits from it though I would say, is will easily pay for itself. Fasting will get you into ketosis fast too.

In Conclusion

There are probably more herbal remedies out there for radiation. And I encourage you to go look and research on your own. With the Nuclear Survival Gear, I recommend in this post I feel that you will survive a radiation exposure event.

In the case that you are not a direct target. Nothing I can recommend for that. The best advice I have is to not live in a city that is a desirable target.

If you live in a town with a small population at least some distance from the larger cities you will be better off. We preppers often gravitate to smaller towns anyway.

The big key is to minimize exposure. So the less exposure to radiation you have the better off you will be.

Next is that most of the nuclear survival gear items need to be used ASAP. The sooner you treat radiation sickness the better your chances of survival is.

Combining any or all of these will raise those chances more.

Be safe out there. What do you have for nuclear attack in your preps? Let me know in the comments!

Likely Targets for a Limited Nuclear Strike by Russia

Click here to view the original post.

An all-out nuclear war with Russia is highly unlikely. However, the possibility of a limited nuclear strike by Russia is a possibility.

I know that nuclear war is a extremely scary prospect. And I’ve seen those maps of all the possible targets in the United States painted red, with targets so numerous that little non-red area is left. But even the makers of those maps are NOT saying ALL those targets WILL be hit (a detail many folks seem to have missed). Rather, they are just showing all possible targets (literally thousands of possibilities), NOT likely targets. In reality, there are a number of reasons why a surprise nuclear attack on the US by Russia (or even China) will likely only feature a handful of targets.

Why All-Out Nuclear War Is Highly Unlikely

1) The aggressor nation will want to keep a significant portion of their nuclear arsenal in reserve to deter retaliation. For example, Russia would not want to exhaust its nuclear capability out of fear that China might try to take advantage of such a situation and attack Russia. Or to prevent a possible retaliation by NATO.

2) The Russians would want to exploit the resources (land people, agriculture, energy, minerals, etc.) of the US after the war, therefore don’t want to reduce all of America to a radioactive no-go zone. Conquering and demilitarizing the United States makes much more strategic long-term sense than utterly destroying the US.

3) The Russians know, like it or not, that the United States is still the world’s largest economy, accounting for nearly 25% of the world’s economy. To utterly destroy the US would create massive economic problems globally, including for Russia. Again, strategically, Russia would prefer the US remain mostly intact, although thoroughly declawed, after the war.

4) The personal weakness of Obama may have convinced Putin and Russia that the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) doctrine is no longer in effect. They may be making the calculated risk that Obama will NOT order the US to retaliate with our nuclear weapons. Instead, Obama may sue for peace (surrender), thus turning the US over to Russia (basically as a vassal state), or even to the UN to administer.

Targets Russia Would Likely Avoid

Put emotions aside for a moment, and try to think from Russia’s point-of-view. You want to take out the US as a world military power and turn it into a vassal state. You want the US to remain mostly intact so that you can exploit its resources and finances. You think its current leadership is extremely weak. You would want to AVOID hitting any major financial centers (examples: New York, Charlotte, Chicago), major industrial cities (examples: Houston, St. Louis, Dallas), major seaports (large coastal cities), and any regions where there are resources you want to exploit (major agricultural or energy regions).

Likely Targets For a Limited Nuclear Strike

So, where would Russia consider hitting with tactical nukes? Major political and military command & control centers, as well as major communications infrastructure. Obviously, I have no inside information on what Russia plans to attack, but here is a list of places I think most likely to be targets, and why?

1) Washington, DC: Highly symbolic, as well as strategic, target. The political and governmental center of the United States. Would decimate most political and government leadership (President and some other high ranking officials would likely survive). Key military center (the Pentagon).

2) Peterson Air Force Base/Cheyenne Mountain/Colorado Springs, CO:  The headquarters of NORAD will be a certain target.

3) Various Other Military Bases. There are hundreds of military bases throughout the US of varying degrees of significance. Russia will not attack ALL of them, for the reasons given above, but may hit several of special significance,in addition to Peterson AFB listed above. I won’t hazard a guess as to which ones Russia will choose to hit, and would recommend not living very near any military base.

4) Denver, CO: Big population (2.9 million in metro area), with few reasons for Russia to not target it (surprisingly, Denver is not really a major financial or industrial center). Also, Denver likely plays a major role in the US Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and/or “Shadow Government,” depending on how accurate certain conspiracy theories are.

If Obama crumbles, as Putin may suspect, and does not order a retaliation strike, it is likely that these initial targets will be the only ones hit. At this point, I would expect a fairly quick surrender of the US. However, if Obama does try to “slug it out” with Russia with conventional warfare, Russia would likely expand targets to hit one or two large population centers f lesser financial or industrial importance (example: Atlanta) relative to other large population centers. Unfortunately, should Obama order a nuclear counter-strike, the situation would quickly escalate to and all-out nuclear war.

This article is, of course, speculation. But I believe it to be well-reasoned speculation, and have given my reasoning. You are free to do your own speculating. The main point of this article is to think about these possibilities in a rationale, rather than emotional, way.

Putin Ally: Vote For Trump Or Face Nuclear War -- ‘There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis Everywhere’

An influential and bombastic Russian lawmaker, widely viewed as an ally of President Vladimir Putin, says Americans should vote for Donald Trump to avoid nuclear war.

“Americans voting for a president on Nov. 8 must realize that they are voting for peace on Planet Earth if they vote for Trump,” Vladimir Zhirinovsky told Reuters. “But if they vote for Hillary, it’s war. It will be a short movie. There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis everywhere.”

Zhirinovsky is the head of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, the third largest group in the country’s parliament, or duma. He is a close ally of Putin and viewed as something of a spokesman for the Kremlin.

Make Sure Your Electronics ALWAYS Have Power … With The New Pocket Power X!

“Victory for Trump would be a gift to humanity,” Zhirinovsky said. “But if Hillary Clinton wins it will be the last U.S. president ever.”

The ‘Donald Trump of Russia’

Putin has used Zhirinovsky to make statements that are too radical or controversial for a sitting leader in the past, Reuters reported. Zhirinovsky is a nationalist who has been labeled the “Donald Trump of Russia” by some reporters because he likes to compare himself to Trump.

Zhirinovsky fears that Hillary Clinton will start a nuclear war if she is elected.

“She craves power,” Zhirinovsky said. “Her view is that Hillary is the most important person on the planet, that America is an exceptional country. That’s dangerous. She could start a nuclear war.”

Zhirinovsky also thinks that Trump would be a peacemaker as president.

“Trump will have a brilliant chance to make relations more peaceful,” he said, adding that Trump even could win a Nobel peace prize. “He’s the only one who can do this.”

Relations between the U.S. and Russia are already poor, Zhirinovsky said.

“He (Trump) won’t care about Syria, Libya and Iraq and why on earth should America interfere in these countries?” Zhirinovsky added. “And Ukraine. Who needs Ukraine?”

War with Russia??? Some Recommendations…

Click here to view the original post.

The world has become destabilized, and the war drums are beating. Russia seems to be preparing for possible war, including the possible use of nuclear weapons, with the United States. I don’t know what will happen, but I do know that the next six months or so will be one of the most dangerous times in modern history. Here are a few recommendations on what to do:

1) Bring home any family members that are overseas. Russia is doing this, and we would be wise to follow their lead. If a world war should break out, or nuclear weapons be used even in a limited way, it will be months or even years before you will be able to reunite with family members that are overseas when hostilities break out. Bring home NOW any students studying abroad, or any other family members who are overseas for whatever reasons. Cancel any overseas vacations or trips. You can always go later if nothing happens.

2) Newbies: Start preparing now, if you haven’t already. It doesn’t matter if you call yourself a prepper, a survivalist, or just someone trying to be more self-reliant. Just do it. Don’t know where to begin? Read my article A quick, no frills, down & dirty guide to preparing for the End, which will give you the basic outline, in less then 10 minutes, of what you need to be doing. There are numerous other articles on this website with lots of preparedness & survival inforamtion, along with book and gear reviews. Start with those articles listed in the “Solutions” section in the left hand column.

Another good resource for general preparedness and survival is James Wesley Rawles’ book How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times.

3) Advanced Preppers/Survivalists: The 1987 edition of Cresson H. Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills is available for FREE download at http://www.oism.org/nwss/. I list this as being “advanced” because folks need to be doing the basics of prepping first, before trying to prepare specifically for a nuclear war.

4) Are you living in or near a likely nuclear target? For a variety of reasons, all-out nuclear war is extremely unlikely, but the limited use of nukes is a possibility. The Russians would want to exploit the resources of the US after the war, therefore don’t want to reduce all of America to a radioactive no-go zone. A likely scenario is a handful of nuclear weapons are used to take out a few crucial military and command-and-control targets.

The Russians may be counting on Obama’s weakness to prevent him from ordering a counter-strike, thus partially removing the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) doctrine that actually helped us survive the cold war. Carefully consider where you are living, and if there are any critical military targets nearby. Consider moving if you are near one.

5) Food and Water will be critical. You need to have plenty of stored food & water, and ideally the ability to produce even more. Our modern food distribution system is precariously balanced, and will likely collapse during and following a major world war.

6) Dealing with Radiation: Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills (link to a FREE download is given above) goes into much more detail, and with more expertise, than I can give here, so I’ll only make a couple of quick comments:

     a) The best protection against radiation is space and mass. The further way from a nuclear blast you are, the safer you’ll be. The more mass you have between you and a nuclear blast, the safer you’ll be.
     b) Potassium Iodide Tablets offer some protection (not complete radiation protection), but you need to know how to use them properly. Find out now how to use them, and ONLY use them when absolutely necessary. Start with the CDC video Pharmaceutical Countermeasures for Radiation Emergencies – KI (Potassium Iodide).
     c) Dr. Joe and Amy Alton’s excellent book, The Survival Medicine Handbook, has a chapter on Radiation Sickness. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and consider it a MUST HAVE for any serious prepper or survivalist.

7) Minimum Pre-Crisis Preparations for a Nuclear Event: Chapter 16 of  Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills gives a list of minimum preparations, including shelter, ventilation-cooling, water, fallout meter, food, sanitation, medicines, light, radio, and other essentials. You can read chapter 16 on my website, or preferably download the entire book for free at
http://www.oism.org/nwss/.

8) My Personal Preparations: What am I actually doing in response to the threat of war with Russia? I’ve been a “prepper” for well over 10 years, so have already made many preparations. My personal preps over the last 2 weeks include:

  • Closely monitoring news reports relating to the situation, form both mainstream & alternative sources, and both American & international sources.
  • Added additional food storage. Made a special trip to Sam’s Club last Thursday for the express purpose of buying extra food, especially canned meats (salmon, chicken), and a few other items.
  • Purchased extra ammo last week above what I had organically planned.
  • Ordered extra fish antibiotics (to take care of my pet fish, of course), and ordered two bottles of Potassium Iodine tablets (the first I’ve ever purchased).
  • Double checked my water storage to make sure it is properly rotated (I rotate water every six-months). I plan on adding to my water storage this week.
  • Stocked up on antioxidant vitamins I take for my eyes (I now have a six-month supply on-hand). Likewise, you should stock up on any special medications or supplements you take.
  • Performed maintenance on my vehicles to assure that they are in excellent working condition. You don’t want your bug-out vehicle to break-down in a crisis.

You may also be interested in my article A Destabilized World & War Drums in which I discuss the what, how, and why of current events that are causing me to be seriously considering the possibility of a war with Russia.

Minimum Pre-Crisis Preparations for a Nuclear Event

The following is Chapter 16 of the 1987 edition of Cresson H. Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills. The entire book is available for free download at http://www.oism.org/nwss/

Chapter 16: Minimum Pre-Crisis Preparations

Your chances of surviving a nuclear attack will be improved if you make the following low-cost preparations before a serious crisis arises. Once many Americans become convinced that a nuclear attack is a near certainty, they will rush to stores and buy all available survival supplies. If you wait to prepare until a crisis does arise, you are likely to be among the majority who will have to make-do with inadequate supplies of water containers, food, and materials. Furthermore, even if you have the necessary materials and instructions to make the most needed survival items, you and your family are not likely to have time to make all of them during a few days of tense crisis.
The following recommendations are intended primarily for the majority who live in areas likely to be subjected to blast, fire, or extremely heavy fallout. These people should plan to evacuate to a safer area. (Many citizens living outside high-risk areas, especially homeowners with yards, can and should make better pre-crisis preparations. These would include building high-protection-factor permanent shelters covered with earth.)

SHELTER

Keep on hand the tools and materials your family or group will need to build or improve a high- protection-factor expedient shelter: One or more shovels, a pick (if in a hard-soil area), a bow-saw with an extra blade, a hammer, and 4-mil polyethylene film for rainproofing your planned shelter. Also store the necessary nails, wire, etc. needed for the kind of shelter you plan to build.

Keep instructions for shelter-building and other survival essentials in a safe and convenient place.

VENTILATION-COOLING

Make a homemade shelter-ventilating pump, a KAP, of the size required for the shelter you plan to build or use.

WATER

Keep on hand water containers (including at least four 30-gallon untreated polyethylene trash bags and two sacks or pillowcases for each person), a pliable garden hose or other tube for siphoning, and a plastic bottle of sodium hypochlorite bleach (such as Clorox) for disinfecting water and utensils.

FALLOUT METER

Make one or two KFMs and learn how to use this simple instrument.

FOOD

Store at least a 2-week supply of compact, nonperishable food. The balanced ration of basic dry foods described in Chapter 9, Food, satisfies requirements for adults and larger children at minimum cost. If your family includes babies or small children, be sure to store more milk powder, vegetable oil, and sugar.

Continuing to breast-feed babies born during an impending crisis would greatly simplify their care should the crisis develop and worsen
For preparing and cooking basic foods:
° Make a 3-Pipe Grain Mill like the one described in Chapter 9, Food, or buy a small hand-cranked grain mill, which grinds more efficiently than other expedient devices. Book Page: 133
° Make a Bucket-Stove as described in Chapter 9. During evacuation, the stove can be used as a container. Store some kitchen-type wooden matches in a waterproof container.
° Keep essential containers and utensils on hand for storing and transporting food and for cooking and serving in a shelter.
SANITATION

Insect screen or mosquito netting, and fly bait. See Chapter 12.
A hose-vented 5-gallon can, with heavy plastic bags for liners, for use as a toilet. Includesome smaller plastic bags and toilet paper with these supplies. Tampons.
MEDICINES

° Any special medications needed by family members.
° Potassium iodide, a 2-oz bottle, and a medicine- dropper, for prophylactic protection of the thyroid gland against radioactive iodines. (Described in the last section of Chapter 13, Survival Without Doctors.)
° A first-aid kit and a tube of antibiotic ointment.
LIGHT
° Long-burning candles (with small wicks) sufficient for at least 14 nights.
° An expedient lamp, with extra cotton-string, wicks, and cooking oil as described in Chapter 11.
° A flashlight and extra batteries.
RADIO A transistor radio with extra batteries and a metal box in which to protect it.
OTHER ESSENTIALS

Review the EVACUATION CHECKLIST (developed primarily for persons who make no preparations before a crisis) and add items that are special requirements of your family.

The One Nuclear Threat That Most People Aren’t Aware Of

Click here to view the original post.

nuclear silo wikimediaThese days we are all well aware that nuclear technology provides plenty of ways to disrupt our society. There are of course, an abundance of nuclear missiles in the world today, as well suitcase nukes and dirty bombs. There is also the ever looming possibility of a meltdown occurring in a nuclear power plant. However, there is one nuclear threat that very few people are aware of, and we have the Russians to thank for it.

In short, they have a bona fide doomsday machine. No, this isn’t science fiction. At first glance it probably doesn’t sound very exotic, since this machine delivers ordinary nuclear weapons. What’s so unique about it, is the conditions that could cause it to activate. The Russians refer to it as the “Dead Hand,” and it operates similarly to the fictional doomsday device from Dr. Strangelove.

Developed in the 1980’s, the Dead Hand is a system designed to ensure that no matter what happens during a nuclear attack, the Soviets would always be able to strike back. They feared that the United States would be able to decapitate their leadership with a preemptive nuclear strike, so they built an automated nuclear command system that requires very little human input.

The Dead Hand is a computer system that is connected to a network of seismic, radiological, and air pressure sensors distributed throughout the country, as well as the government’s communication infrastructure. If the Dead Hand detects a nuclear blast on Russian soil, then it will check to see if communications are still open with the upper echelons of the Russian government. If that connection is ever severed, (say by a nuclear attack against the Kremlin) the computer will initiate the launch of every remaining nuclear missile in Russia’s arsenal.

What’s so scary about this system, is that it has little human input. In any nuclear arsenal, there are typically multiple layers of politicians and military officials that a launch order has to pass through. If the Dead Hand however, decides that it’s time to launch a nuclear assault against the US, then that authority is passed to a handful of midranking officers hunkered down in a bunker. It’s widely believed that this system is still in operation to this day, and believe it or not, many of our government’s leaders are unaware of its existence.

The technical name was Perimeter, but some called it Mertvaya Ruka, or Dead Hand. It was built 25 years ago and remained a closely guarded secret. With the demise of the USSR, word of the system did leak out, but few people seemed to notice. In fact, though Yarynich and a former Minuteman launch officer named Bruce Blair have been writing about Perimeter since 1993 in numerous books and newspaper articles, its existence has not penetrated the public mind or the corridors of power. The Russians still won’t discuss it, and Americans at the highest levels—including former top officials at the State Department and White House—say they’ve never heard of it. When I recently told former CIA director James Woolsey that the USSR had built a doomsday device, his eyes grew cold. “I hope to God the Soviets were more sensible than that.” They weren’t.

That secrecy should be alarming, because we don’t have a very good idea about what could trip up this aging system. The very existence of the human race is in the hands of a 31-year-old computer and a few Russian officers, and that leaves a lot of scary questions unanswered.

Is this aging computer system still reliable? How about the sensors that its connected to? Can the select few people who man it be trusted to make the right decisions? Under the right conditions, could the Dead Hand initiate an accidental nuclear strike?

If say a dirty bomb temporarily severed communications with the Dead Hand, would it know what really happened? Or would it just sense the radiation and assume the worst? What about an asteroid, or a solar flare? We don’t know if all the sensors need to be giving readings that are consistent with a nuclear attack, or if they only need to identify a handful of conditions. We don’t know if the officers who check on the system are going to simply follow the computer’s instructions, or if they will rely on their own judgement.

There’s a lot of scary stuff that we don’t know about the Dead Hand. It just goes to show even though humans are far too scared and reasonable to launch a nuclear attack against another nuclear armed nation, the possibility of such a conflict happening accidentally is always present.

10 Most Useful Items In A Nuclear Emergency

When you think about prepping, what sort of disasters come to mind? In my experience, most preppers think about severe weather, extended power outages, economic crises, and so forth. You’re More Likely to Die in a Global Disaster Than a Car Crash

Click here to view the original post.

Nuclear warIf you’re a prepper, then you’re probably inundated with doomsday alarmism on a fairly regular basis. It comes with the territory. While in the process of staying informed on all of the possible threats to civilization, you will inevitably run into fear-mongering claims that the sky is going to fall on our world tomorrow. These outlandish claims not only distract us from genuine threats, but they also make the prepper community look silly and paranoid to mainstream society.

However, there are real threats that we have to worry about. Real threats that the mainstream often thinks are just as crazy as the alarmist threats. Most people look at preppers and think that they’re crazy for believing that civilization could be destroyed by many different threats, leading to the deaths of millions of people, but it’s a very real possibility. It’s worth preparing for.

As a matter of fact, you might be able to scientifically prove that it’s worth preparing for.

See, most people would look at the countless threats to society, both the legitimate ones and the crazy ones, and just shrug their shoulders. “Why bother?” they would say, “why should I worry about this? It’s probably going to kill everyone anyway, and there are already plenty of normal things I have to worry about, like cancer and house fires and car crashes. Why should I spend any time, energy, or money, worrying about a pandemic or a nuclear war, which is far less likely?”

But they should worry about it, because statistically speaking, those catastrophic threats are more likely to effect them than some of the more mundane threats, like the aforementioned car crashes. In fact, a recent study looked at different threats that could lead to the extinction of the human race, and compared their likelihood to the threat of dying in a car crash, and the results were not what you might expect.

In its annual report on “global catastrophic risk,” the nonprofit debuted a startling statistic: Across the span of their lives, the average American is more than five times likelier to die during a human-extinction event than in a car crash.

Partly that’s because the average person will probably not die in an automobile accident. Every year, one in 9,395 people die in a crash; that translates to about a 0.01 percent chance per year. But that chance compounds over the course of a lifetime. At life-long scales, one in 120 Americans die in an accident.

The risk of human extinction due to climate change—or an accidental nuclear war—is much higher than that. The Stern Review, the U.K. government’s premier report on the economics of climate change, estimated a 0.1 percent risk of human extinction every year. That may sound low, but it also adds up when extrapolated to century-scale. The Global Challenges Foundation estimates a 9.5 percent chance of human extinction within the next hundred years.

Somehow I doubt that climate change could come close to extinguishing humanity, but nuclear war is certainly capable wiping most of us out.  And not only is that disaster becoming more likely due to current international tensions, but even during peace time there is always the threat of an accidental nuclear war.

But human extinction level events are hardly the only things we have to worry about.  The Global Challenges Foundation also looked at disasters that could kill 10% or more of the population. Pandemics are the most likely to cause those kinds of deaths, but they also explored some of the threats that aren’t talked about very often, like genetically engineered diseases, artificial intelligence, and geo-engineering.

Nearly all of the most threatening global catastrophic risks were unforeseeable a few decades before they became apparent. Forty years before the discovery of the nuclear bomb, few could have predicted that nuclear weapons would come to be one of the leading global catastrophic risks. Immediately after the Second World War, few could have known that catastrophic climate change, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence would come to pose such a significant threat.

Obviously it’s difficult to put a precise statistic on these existential threats, some of which may or may not even happen. However, when you put the likelihood of all these disasters together, as well as the number casualties they could inflict, it’s clear that they deserve just as much attention as anything else that might threaten your life.

So the next time someone tells you that you’re crazy for preparing yourself for a global disaster, you can confidently assure them that it makes just as much sense as keeping a fire extinguishers in the kitchen, or wearing a seat-belt.

Fukushima Crisis Continues: What All Preppers Should Know

Fukushima Crisis Continues: What All Preppers Should Know

When it comes to chaotic nightmare scenario, earthquakes, tsunamis, and nuclear accidents easily rank at the top of just about anyone’s list. On the other hand, there is also a pervasive sense among preppers that these scenarios are not likely to happen in their area, let alone strike all at one time.

Sadly, in Fukushima, Japan, all three events did happen at one time, and the long term impacts still need to be considered by everyone interested in prepping.

What Is the Fukushima Nuclear Crisis About?

On March 11, 2011, a major earthquake struck off the coast of Fukushima, Japan, then a very powerful tsunami occurred. The water struck a nuclear power plant and caused major failures in the cooling system for several of the reactors. Within 24 hours, enormous amounts of radioactive material were being released into the land, ocean, and air, and it remained impossible to stop the radiation from leaking out. Today, radiation still pours out as there are three reactor cores that melted down, and very little can be done to stop this process.

At least 610 workers and nearby residents died due to radiation exposure, and thousands more are expected to develop cancers related to exposure to radiation. The toll is greatest on children, of whom over 1/3 already show signs of abnormal growth in the thyroid glands that indicate an increased risk for cancer.

To put it simply, yes, the Fukushima Nuclear Crisis is still ongoing, and presents a danger to everyone in its path. It is estimated that at least 520 tons of radioactive water found its way into the Pacific Ocean, and at least 50 grams of plutonium were released directly into the air, plus an undisclosed amount of other radioactive materials. (50 grams of plutonium can produce an explosion that would normally take 750 pounds, or 340 kilograms of TNT.)

The radioactive half-life of materials used to power nuclear reactors spans thousands to hundreds of thousands of years. When these particles find their way into the water, air, and soil, they will remain radioactive and continue to pose a serious danger to almost all life forms.

How Is Fukushima Crisis Impacting the US?

As of December 2015, radiation from Fukushima has reached the western shores of the US and Canada. It is estimated that some isotopes have jumped as much as 50% in concentration, however government agencies still claim that radiation levels are not high enough to promote the idea that people should stop swimming, boating, and eating from the coastal waters.

This mirrors Japan’s claim that their coastal waters in the area are safe despite the fact that radiation levels are 10 to 100 times higher than what is currently being seen along the west coast of the United States and Canada.

Why Should I Be Concerned?

As a prepper, dealing with a nuclear crisis is something that is sure to have crossed your mind. Here’s why you need to be concerned right now about Fukushima and its potential deadly impact on your life:

  • Increasing levels of radiation from Fukushima are readily detectable now along the western coast of the United States. The progression of the radiation has progressed inland and now shows up in water and soil located further away from the ocean.

  • If you buy food or water from areas currently contaminated by radioactive materials from Fukushima, there is no way for you to know if these consumable goods are even safe. This includes wines, cigarettes, and just about anything else that you think is safe to consume just because it is “made in the United States”.

  • Unlike Chernobyl and nuclear bomb explosions, the radiation leaking from Fukushima has not stopped.

Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible for consumers to determine if elevated radiation levels are coming from Fukushima, a nearby power plant, or some other source of radioactive material.

Being able to tell if you are being exposed to this kind of radiation is still one of the most important things you can do to safeguard your health and that of your family members and loved ones. Here are three things you can do to find out if you are being exposed to nuclear radiation:

  • Keep an eye out for data released by Fukushima watch groups and nuclear plants in your area, including controversial ones.

  • Keep Kearny (KFM) fallout meters in several locations at home and in the office. These devices are easy to make and can help you correlate information found in other reports.

  • Always be aware of what area of the world that food is grown and processed in. Never forget that dust and contaminated water easily find their way into plants and animals, and then into your body.

Obesity is an indicator of thyroid problems, but most doctors do not make thyroid function tests a routine part of medical exams, let alone look for this as a cause of increasing body weight. On the other hand, thyroid cancers are some of the most common types that people get when exposed to nuclear radiation. Leukemia and blood cancers are also very common in people exposed to nuclear radiation.

To protect your body from ionizing radiation regardless of the source, increase Vitamin C intake, as it works as a natural shield. If you have been exposed to radiation, make use of herbal remedies (marigold tea, turmeric, black pepper, and olive oil) that either inhibit tumor growth or stop it altogether. There are many other teas and other solutions that will increase pH (to a more alkaline level) so that it is harder for cancer cells to grow.

What About Long Term Consequences?

Loss of Areas to Grow Food

Once the land is contaminated by nuclear waste such as the materials away from the Fukushima power plant, it can no longer be trusted to sustain plants that will be consumed for food.

Here are some reasons why rising levels of radiation from Fukushima being detected in the soil represent such a problem to everyone that looks to this area for food:

  • Any plants that are able to grow in areas contaminated with nuclear waste show severe genetic deformities: clover with 5 or more leaves, other plants with odd shaped flowers, stunted growth, giant or excessive growth, stalk tumors (yes plants do develop tumorous growths or knots!), increased susceptibility to infection, and many other problems.

  • Some plants and mushrooms are known to pull toxic radioactive waste from the soil and incorporate it into their leaves, roots, stems, and flowers. Aside from Tobacco and its notorious tendency to pull Polonium from the soil, some species of mushrooms and conifers also pull radioactive materials from the soil. Still there are no lists of edible plants that pull more radioactive material than others.

  • Failing crops, droughts, floods, and other severe weather patterns all contribute to soil erosion.  As soil is picked up by the wind, or other forces of nature, it will take the radioactive material and spread them all over the place. As a result, even places further inland may wind up with trace to larger amounts of radioactive material entering the environment without anyone realizing it is present.

Loss of Safe Water Resources

Similar to the loss of land, it is highly unlikely that radiation from the Fukushima Crisis will be able to cause other non-radioactive particles to suddenly become radioactive. Dust and other radioactive materials in the water pose some serious problems. This includes:

  • Even though heavy metals can be removed from water by distilling it, there are very few ways to remove tritium (a radioactive form of hydrogen), from potable water supplies. Tritium is commonly released by nuclear reactors including those that were damaged in Fukushima Japan. To this day, Japan is still trying to figure out what to do with Tritium waste left behind. Other than releasing it into the ocean, they are also considering simply letting the water evaporate, or try burying it.

  • Since it tends to be very hard to detect tritium in water supplies, there are very few, if any ways for governing bodies to determine just how much of this type of nuclear waste is washing up on the shores or falling along the coast of the United States and in heavily populated areas.

  • If you watch the news forecast, then it’s easy to see that water from one end of the country, or even the world, can move all over the place in a very short period of time. As a result, it is very possible that people on the East Coast of the United States may be dealing with the consequences of the Fukushima crisis well before they expected to. In terms of setting up a safe homestead, there is no such thing as a water supply that will remain uncontaminated because of the way water cycles so easily from air to ground and underground areas.

  • Many people that think of the oceans as endless bodies of salt water fail to realize that enormous amounts of water evaporate from them on a daily basis. Without this evaporation, supplies of potable water on land would never be replenished. When the oceans are polluted by radioactive materials, the water throughout the world will also get contaminated.

Loss of Safe Hunting and Fishing Areas

Today, there are many preppers that feel the best thing to do is return to living off the land instead of hoping that FEMA and social programs will help them out in a time of need.

If you thought the impact of Fukushima on human reproduction was bad, then you haven’t really given much thought to the impact on animals that you might rely on for food. In fact, if you do some research on mutations found around Chernobyl, you see why it will be impossible to hunt or fish where radioactive materials from Fukushima show up.

Large die offs of animals and plants also tend to occur when radiation levels rise. In this case, the path of the ocean currents between Japan and the United States may well be corridors of death for millions of fish that will no longer be available for humans to consume. No matter whether there is a social collapse or not, a reduction in food from the ocean will lead to higher food prices, which in turn, will trigger other disasters.

Loss of Safe Air to Breathe

If you have done any degree of prepping, then you may already realize that respirators, gas masks, and closed oxygen systems simply cannot take the place of breathing regular air. The lungs are also some of the most sensitive organs in the body when it comes to being damaged by radiation.

As air based nuclear contamination from Fukushima travels along, it will drop into the Pacific Ocean long before it reaches the United States. That, however, doesn’t guarantee the safety of air in the United States.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Water always evaporates, and as it does so, it will carry small particles of radioactive material along with it. In this case, tritium will be carried along because it is the lightest of all radioactive materials.

  • As water seeps into the land, particles of radioactive debris will be left behind. As this soil dries out and turns to dust, it will blow along with the wind, which means that radioactive materials are right back in the air.

Cycles of nature aside, there are already statements coming out of Japan to the effect that they don’t know how to alleviate problems caused by Fukushima, let alone what kinds of problems will occur. If they can’t figure out how to even stop the radiation from leaking out of the reactors, why trust any governing body that seeks to assure us that air contaminated by this disaster is safe to breathe? The fact of the matter is no one really knows what the total impact on air quality from this radiation as it spreads across the world.

Impacts on the Economy

In a sense, running a country is not so difference from running a business. When you own a business, those who buy from you must have confidence that the products you sell are safe to use. There is no question that farmers in the United States and other nations rely on the good reputation of their land and water when it comes to exporting foods.

At a more local level, there are no estimates revolving around how many businesses will be driven under because high radiation levels mean that some operations can no longer be carried out in certain areas. This includes everything from farming to making wine, water, and many other products. As people get sick, an untold amount of pure human creativity and excellence will also be lost or left undeveloped as people struggle just to stay alive.

Anyone thinking about the economic impact of Fukushima should also think seriously about how much it costs to treat cancer. Since government bodies consistently under-estimate dangers from ISIS, it should come as no surprise that they may also be seriously underestimating just how many people right here in the United States are likely to develop cancer because of the Fukushima crisis.

In addition, regardless of the treatments used for cancer, they are all extremely expensive and there is no way for people with or without health insurance to be able to pay for it.

What Should We Do?

While everyone was focused on trying to avoid a nuclear war, a nuclear holocaust is already underway because of the ongoing nuclear crisis in Japan. Never forget that governments conspired to unleash a technology that they did have full control of, and is now presenting a very serious threat to millions of people right here in the United States.

Now is the time to demand answers and action on a problem that is much worse than anything that could come of conventional guns or even other forms of energy generation.

Take the time now to demand answers and the truth form leaders that continue to use “red flag” generated scenarios to hide what is going on in Fukushima. Our nation still has billions of dollars’ worth of tax dollars that can be used to help with research and resolving this crisis instead of wasting it on nonsense like gun control and other useless ego game agendas.

Russia’s New ‘Nuclear Torpedo’ Can Create Giant Tsunamis And Wipe Out Entire Coastal Cities

Nuclear Explosion - Public Domain

By Michael Snyder – The Economic Collapse Blog

While the eyes of the world are on ISIS, Russia is creating weapons unlike anything the world has ever seen before.  Plans for a giant self-propelled nuclear torpedo that can create a giant tsunami more than 1,000 feet tall were recently “leaked by mistake” by the Russian media.  Apparently the warheads on these torpedos are designed to create so much radiation “that everything living will be killed” – including those that try to survive the attack by hiding in underground shelters.  These “robotic mini-submarines” would have a range of up to 10,000 kilometers and would be able to evade all existing U.S. detection systems.  To say that such a weapon would be a “game changer” would be a massive understatement.

I know that you are not just going to take my word for any of this.  So like I do in all of my articles, I am going to carefully document what I am saying.

The reason why we know about the plans for this new nuclear torpedo is because they were displayed on Russian state television for a few moments during a recent broadcast.  According to Russian officials, this was an “accident”.  The following comes from a report in the Independent

Secret plans for a new Russian nuclear torpedo system have been shown on state-controlled television in what the Kremlin said was an accident.

A close-up of a confidential document detailing “Ocean Multipurpose System: Status-6” was broadcast for several seconds by Channel One Russia and NTV during coverage of a meeting between Vladimir Putin and military officials.

Could it be possible that this “accident” happened on purpose?

Could it be possible that it was intended as a warning for the Obama administration?

You never know.

But without a doubt, this is the kind of weapon that would keep military planners up at night.  According to RT, this new nuclear torpedo is designed to create “extensive zones of radioactive contamination” that would ensure that no “military, economic, business or other activity” would occur in that area for a very long time…

The presentation slide titled “Ocean Multipurpose System: Status-6” showed some drawings of a new nuclear submarine weapons system. It is apparently designed to bypass NATO radars and any existing missile defense systems, while also causing heavy damage to “important economic facilities” along the enemy’s coastal regions.

The footnote to the slide stated that Status-6 is intended to cause “assured unacceptable damage” to an adversary force. Its detonation “in the area of the enemy coast” would result in “extensive zones of radioactive contamination” that would ensure that the region would not be used for “military, economic, business or other activity” for a “long time.”

In addition, Konstantin Sivkov of the Russian Geopolitical Academy told the BBC that this kind of weapon could be used to create a tsunami more than 1,000 feet high…

A warhead of up to 100 megatons could produce a tsunami up to 500m (1,650ft) high, wiping out all living things 1,500km (930 miles) deep inside US territory

As I have written about previously, a whopping 39 percent of all Americans live in counties that directly border a shoreline.  The detonation of just a handful of these weapons could wipe out the entire east coast and kill off a very substantial percentage of the U.S. population.

On top of all that, the BBC is reporting that a state-run Russian publication is suggesting that these new torpedos are being fitted with extremely radioactive cobalt warheads…

Why Did The U.S. Launch A Nuclear Missile That Would Be Visible From L.A. Without Any Warning?

Trident Nuclear Missile Over Southern California

By Michael Snyder – End Of The American Dream

Was the U.S. government trying to send a message to someone on Saturday night?  Just after sunset, an unarmed Trident II nuclear missile was fired from a ballistic missile submarine just off the coast of southern California that was later identified as the USS Kentucky.  It was the absolutely perfect time to attract the attention of millions of people living in the Los Angeles area.  If it had been fired during the day, the missile would have been far less visible.  If it had been fired in the middle of the night, most residents of southern California would have been asleep.  Those that planned the firing of this nuclear missile knew that it would be seen by hundreds of thousands of people and that it would make headlines all over the planet.  So why was this done?

When the U.S. military established a no-fly zone west of Los Angeles for a week, it raised the eyebrows of many.

But nobody expected this.

The unarmed Trident II missile that was fired from the USS Kentucky normally carries a nuclear warhead, and this launch was so visible that it could even be seen by people living in Arizona and Nevada

The event was seen in Northern California (Santa Rosa) and as far east as Nevada and Arizona (though it was very low to the western horizon from there). This shows just how high up the missile must have been; a couple of hundred kilometers at least, I’d think. It was seen west of Los Angeles, moving roughly south to north. That too makes sense; it was probably launched from the ocean hundreds of kilometers west of LA, sent to the north, away from populated areas. I’m not sure why they didn’t do this even farther west, where no one would see it, but I assume the military has their reasons.

Once the missile was launched, photographs and videos of this strange phenomenon were very quickly posted on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.  Others alerted law enforcement agencies and their local news stations.

Nobody knew exactly what was going on, but everyone seemed to recognize that this was not normal.  The following comes from a report that was posted on CNN

Panic and speculation spread Saturday night when a bright white light shot through the night skies in Southern California.

Residents posted a flurry of videos on social media, together with theories of aliens or meteors. Others made panicked calls to law enforcement officials.

Today the Navy is trying to assure all of us that this was perfectly “normal”, but very few people are buying that explanation.

Clearly this was done at a time and in a location that would create a massive amount of attention.

So what kind of message was the government trying to send?

Was this a message to the American people?

Some are suggesting this, but I tend to agree with Mike Adams of Natural News that this was likely a message to our enemies…
