You may not be getting prepared for a major national disaster, but the government sure is. I have been informed that in recent months numerous emergency food companies have been contacted by the government, and they have been told that their inventories could potentially be seized in the event of a significant emergency. And as you will see below, the government recently participated in an exercise that simulated “an unprecedented global food crisis lasting as long as a decade”. In addition, NPR has just revealed details about the very secretive Strategic National Stockpile program that is storing billions of dollars worth of medical supplies in warehouses around the nation. This is a program that most Americans do not even know exists. On top of everything else, strange reports of military vehicles with UN markings have been coming in from all over the…

Brett Bauma “Makers On Acres”
On the next episode of the Makers On Acres Tech, Build and Grow show we are going to be discussing preparing for our spring gardens!
On the last episode I talked about indoor gardening, but now is also the time we need to be focusing on and planning our spring gardens and getting ready to produce some food!
What can we really do in February to prepare our gardens? We can be doing a lot of little things that will help set us up for success when we hit the garden hard in the spring. Many times we sit through the winter planning in our heads “The Great Garden” for this year, and when the time comes we get overwhelmed and under produce with poor results.
I will be discussing a few projects that we can all do to get ready and have our plan in effect for a productive and abundant garden this spring. Don’t waste the precious down time. Before tuning into the upcoming show I suggest that you listen to the archive episode from Saturday the 23rd of January about indoor gardening, as some of that show will be helpful when I start referencing seed starting and plant propagation for our spring gardens.
I will also be discussing some building projects and other labor tasks that we can knock out now to make our garden start that much simpler this spring! Be sure to tune in and spread the word!

In this post I want to show you how to go about preparing a soap mold so that you can make soap. It doesn’t seem that difficult, but if you do not have some means of extracting your soap from the mold you will find out what “Stuck” really means. You can use silicon soap […]
D.J. Cooper “Surviving Dystopia”
In 1516 Sir Thomas Moore coined the word Utopia… in his book with the same name, he is describing a society possessing near perfect qualities…. Dystopia on the other hand is described as the opposite of that, often characterized by dehumanization, totalitarian governments, disasters or some other cataclysmic decline in society…
George Orwell’s Dystopian novel 1984 was a classic example of such a society. But also looking to other media showing such, some form of change comes and with it society changes. The needs of the populace often times change from what we live in now to say a society that values water or food or other things. This may seem like dystopia to many when it is just life to those living it.
Many things happen in our lives and in the world we can’t always control…it could be anything from a minor setback, personal loss or even major catastrophes. Walking around thinking it won’t happen to me or the government will take care of me is a naive outlook at best.
One of my favorite quotes I use on the show all the time is by Alfred Henry Lewis who said, “There are only 9 meals between mankind and anarchy.” This is a fact….3 days is all that represents… It is funny to me that people worry more about protecting their money than they do their families…they buy insurance, invest for retirement…yet don’t keep a candle in the house in case the power goes out.
So in discussing Dystopia, I thought it might be nice to take a few moments to delve into a few of these moments. In my book Dystopia: The Beginning of the End I speak of dystopia for our group, as well as some other media I would like to use as examples to discuss the things we might want to think about in preparing.
I’m also giving away signed copies of my book to the first three callers to call in and discuss with me to help others gain perspective a dystopia they prepare for.

Millions of Americans were gearing up for some huge event to happen in September, but the world didn’t end and now many of them have given up entirely on prepping. Of course the truth is that some absolutely earth-shattering events did take place last month, but because September did not play out exactly as some were anticipating, a lot of people feel very let down. My contacts in the emergency food industry tell me that sales have dropped off dramatically, and yesterday I was told by someone that I trust that the same is true for those that sell precious metals. But this should not be happening. What we witnessed in August and September was just the warm up act, and all of the numbers are absolutely screaming at us that we are right on track for a major global crisis. In this article I am going to focus on economic and financial issues, but there are so many other things going on around the planet right now that threaten to throw our world into turmoil. Anyone that thinks that it is safe to “relax” now is simply not paying attention. The following are 20 reasons why all the people that quit prepping after September are dead wrong…
#1 U.S. exports are down 11 percent for the year so far. The only other times they have fallen this dramatically since the turn of the century were during the last two recessions.
#2 Since March, the amount of stuff being shipped by truck, rail and air inside the United States has been falling every single month on a year over year basis. This is a clear indication that economic activity is really slowing down.
#3 Wholesale sales in the U.S. have fallen to the lowest level since the last recession.
#4 The inventory to sales ratio has risen to the highest level since the last recession. This means that there is a whole lot of unsold inventory that is just sitting around out there and not selling.
#5 Industrial production declined for five months in a row during the first half of 2015. That is something that has never happened outside of a recession.
