Scientists Reveal Fukushima Doused Everyone on Earth With Radiation

When the crisis at the Fukushima power plant first began six years ago, there were legitimate fears that the radioactive particles spewing from the fuel rods could blanket the Earth. Since then the experts and the mainstream media have downplayed that possibility. Either they don’t think it’s possible, or they don’t think it’ll be significant. But recently, scientists in Norway have revealed that the radiation emitted from Fukushima really did have a global reach.

It’s been over half a decade since Japan’s Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant suffered a catastrophic meltdown due to the effects of a tsunami which struck the island nation, but scientists are only just now confirming its far-reaching effects. After conducting the first worldwide survey to measure the ultimate radiation exposure caused by the reactor meltdown, researchers at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research finally have a figure on exactly how much extra radiation humanity was exposed to.

According to the group’s data, over 80 percent of the radiation that was released by the meltdown ended up in either the ocean or ice at the north and south poles. Of the remaining radiation, each human on the planet received roughly 0.1 millisievert, which equates to about “one extra X-ray each,” according to the team.

Fortunately, that’s not a whole lot of radiation. That’s significantly less than the average amount of background radiation that most people receive in a year. The fact that we all received the equivalent of an x-ray isn’t alarming. What is alarming, however, is the fact that Fukushima did this, and it did it to every man and woman and child on Earth.

The reason why that’s so scary is that the Fukushima disaster is still unfolding. Earlier this year it was revealed that the level of radiation at the power plant was at its highest level since this crisis began in 2011, and the fuel rods have likely melted through their containment vessel. If this situation isn’t contained, then these fuel rods could melt into the groundwater, and spew radioactive particles into the ocean for years (or at least, more than what the power plant is already leaking into the ocean).

And we have to consider that as long as those fuel rods aren’t properly stored, they could still explode. If at any point in the next few decades, (which is how long most experts believe it’s going to take to decommission the power plant) the workers at Fukushima fail to keep the rods cool, they could become critical and cause an eruption of radioactive smoke that would spread throughout the atmosphere.

That’s why the discovery made by these Norwegian researchers should be taken seriously. We know for a fact that the radiation from Fukushima is capable of reaching everyone on our planet. So if the situation in Fukushima ever worsens, we know that there will be nowhere to run to. There will be no escaping the lethal emanations from that power plant.

terror attack survivalThey say evil never rests and as we’ve discovered here in the U.S., evil at the hands of terrorists has become more common. We’ve been told by our “betters” that this is the “new normal”, and that we must accept it. So, if our leaders are willing to foist this “new normal” on us, then it behooves us each to learn as much as we can about the tactics of terrorists and how to respond in a way that could save lives. Terror attack survival is no longer reserved for citizens of hot spots like Israel.

A terror attack can take many different forms, and that’s the main reason preparing is difficult. After all, with the randomness, say a lone individual stabbing a complete stranger waiting in line at a Burger King, what do you do, other than wearing a stab vest everywhere? Recent attacks on pedestrians using a truck makes me wary of attending public events.

However, it’s completely possible that future terror attacks will be of an even more lethal variety, with far-reaching consequences and fatalities.

In the case of a CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosive device) event, preparing for and responding to these is a challenge, since it depends on the type and size of weapon or device used, weather conditions, and the target (high-rise, mall, school, sporting event, city, etc) among other things.  However, there are a few key things you can do that could potentially save your life.

  • Watch & listen — Sounds simple and it is. Start making a habit of being aware of your surroundings. You don’t have to be paranoid or obvious ~ just make a mental note of the EXITS when you go to places. Also watch for suspicious activities and anything that is out of place, like someone wearing a heavy coat on a hot day or unattended bags and packages. Situational awareness can be both taught and learned. Begin using the strategies in this article in order to develop this skill.
  • Learn where to go — Find out in advance where you could shelter-in-place at the common places you go (e.g. home, office, school, mall, etc). Most city and county web sites list emergency shelters online or it’s available upon request, then use Mapquest or Google maps to locate ones closest to you. Ask your employer, schools, and other facility officials what their evacuation and sheltering plans are. Then choose a room in your home or building where you could hunker down with supplies and a radio for several hours or days if needed. If you are normally out and about a good deal of the day, then think about the homes of friends, relatives, acquaintances and buildings like churches and any organizations you have a connection with. Call these your “safe houses”. Mark them on maps for your loved ones, memorize addresses and directions, and take shelter there when/if you need to. For more details about safe houses, read this.
  • Get KI, KFM kits and dosimeters. — These are VERY worthy investments in the event of a nuclear incident.
    • KI (potassium iodide) basically fills up the thyroid with good iodine so your body doesn’t absorb the radioactive iodine. Children (including unborn babies) are most susceptible since their thyroids are so active. KI can be purchased inexpensively from Amazon. From the CDC, here are the correct and most currently recommended dosages:
      • Newborns from birth to 1 month of age should be given 16 mg (¼ of a 65 mg tablet or ¼ mL of solution). This dose is for both nursing and non-nursing newborn infants.
      • Infants and children between 1 month and 3 years of age should take 32 mg (½ of a 65 mg tablet OR ½ mL of solution). This dose is for both nursing and non-nursing infants and children.
      • Children between 3 and 18 years of age should take 65 mg (one 65 mg tablet OR 1 mL of solution). Children who are adult size (greater than or equal to 150 pounds) should take the full adult dose, regardless of their age.
      • Adults should take 130 mg (one 130 mg tablet OR two 65 mg tablets OR two mL of solution).
      • Women who are breastfeeding should take the adult dose of 130 mg.
  • KFM kits (Kearny Fallout Meter) measure radiation more accurately than most instruments since they’re charged electrostatically. Free plans are available online or can be purchased as a kit ($45-$75).
  • Dosimeters are pen-like devices you can wear that measure the total dose or accumulated exposure to radiation as you move around ($45-$65 – needs a charger, too). You cannot see, feel, taste or smell radiation so detection devices are extremely important.
  • Expedient shelter — Nuclear fallout is deadly and you may only have a few moments to protect yourself since it starts falling minutes after a blast so learn how to make an “expedient shelter”. Taking shelter underground with shielding is best since it reduces exposure by 90%, but if you don’t have that option:
    • Find a spot away from windows in the center of home or building. Note: if the rooftop of a building next to you is on that same floor, move one floor up or down since radioactive fallout would accumulate on rooftops. Avoid the first floor (if possible) since fallout will pile up on the ground outside.
    • Set up a large, sturdy workbench or table in location you’ve chosen. If no table, make one by putting doors on top of boxes, appliances or furniture.
    • Put as much shielding (e.g. furniture, file cabinets, appliances, boxes or pillowcases filled with dirt or sand, boxes of food, water or books, concrete blocks, bricks, etc.) all around sides and on top of table, but don’t put too much weight on tabletop or it could collapse. Add reinforcing supports, if needed.
    • Leave a crawl space so everyone can get inside and block opening with shielding materials.
    • Leave 2 small air spaces for ventilation (about 4-6″ each) – one low at one end and one high at other end. (This allows for better airflow since warm air rises.)
    • Have water, detection devices, radio, food and sanitation supplies in case you have to shelter for days or weeks.

After 7 hours, radiation levels drop tenfold, and if you stay put at least 2 days you’ve greatly improved your chances for survival. After 2 weeks, radiation levels will be very low. Time, distance, and shielding are critical components of surviving any type of nuclear attack or accident. (Note: Radiological incidents using an RDD or dirty bomb would not be as devastating or deadly since they use low-level radiation. The blast would probably cause more injuries and panic then the radiation.)

  • If you’re trapped — If you get trapped or buried in rubble from an explosive device (or natural disaster for that matter), try not to panic. Cover your mouth with a piece of clothing to help filter the dust. Do NOT use a cigarette lighter for any reason since there could be gas leaks! Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can hear you. (Yelling may cause you to inhale a lot of dust.)
  • Avoid crowds — During or after an incident stay away from large gatherings or crowds since they may be targets for subsequent attacks of one sort or another.

Again, this just barely scratches the surface on this topic, but doing some of these things could potentially help with your survival. We all should learn what to do during many types of disasters and emergencies and share the data with family members, especially our kids and grandkids. Knowledge is power. You may never need any of these steps or items listed here, but it never hurts to prepare for the unexpected.

How To Define A Safe Distance At Nuclear Explosion

Atomic blast is one of the main adverse factors. Depending on in what environment atomic blast appears and spreads, whether it is air, water or soil, it is called wind blast, air blast and seismic explosion wave accordingly.

A wind blast is an area of an air abrupt contraction spreading around and above from the center of the explosion with hypersonic speed. Having a high level of energy, an atomic blast is capable of defeating people, destroying buildings, equipment, military hardware and other objects at significant distances from the place of explosion.

Nature of pressure changing in the space point when an air blast goes through. As soon as an atomic blast reaches a certain space point, pressure and temperature become higher shortly, air begins to spread in an atomic blast direction. With time passing by, the pressure becomes lower and becomes equal to atmospheric. Further pressure decreasing causes exhaustion. At the time, air begins moving in the direction of the explosion. Usually, the action time of an atomic blast in phase of exhaustion is not taken into consideration as long as its importance is rather secondary.

Apart from the specified parameters, an atomic blast is characterized with front propagation velocity, air speed in pressure shock front, temperature of air in pressure shock front, ram air pressure in pressure shock front.

At surface burst, an atomic blast is shaped as hemisphere with center in the spot of explosion of nuclear weapon.

At air blast, reaching out the surface of earth, bounced back off it. the shape of the front is similar to hemisphere with the center in the spot, which is a mirror reflection of the explosion spot related to the surface of earth. Damage is caused by direct and indirect effect of air blast. Affecting exposed personnel, an atomic blast is able to damage like practice shell or air bomb would do at significantly bigger distances. Character and degree of damage depend on differential pressure, a position of a person at the very moment and its protection level. Depending upon differential pressure of a trauma under the impact of the blast, the waves are subdivided into light, average and heavy.

Damage of equipment and military machines after repulsion (on impact with soil) can be more significant than from direct effect of an atomic effect. Tanks receive weak damage such as antenna, headlights and other outdoor equipment breakdown. Weak damage of the tanks happens under a pressure of 0;3—0,5 kgf/cm2 while total damage under a pressure of 10—20 kgf/cm2. Pieces of artillery get average damage under a pressure of 0,4— 0,7 kgf/cm2 and are totally destroyed under a pressure of 2— 10 kgf/cm2. The least tolerant of the atomic blast are planes, helicopters and rockets. They can go to rack and ruin under a pressure of 0,1—0,3 kgf/cm2.

At explosion of neuronal ammunition, equipment and military machines, which have electronic facilities and relay ladder logic system, go to rack and ruin as a result of transistors, diodes and other elements under the impact of radiation damage.

If to take into account that at the air blast the safe distance for unshielded man is /?, km ( 2.5), personnel assets located in fortifications will not be damaged over a distance 2/3/?. Covering trench decreases the radius of damage effect in 2 times and dug-out shelter in 3 times. Military personnel located underground at a depth of more than 10 meters is not affected even if the place underground is in the epicenter of an atomic blast.

Disturbingly, there is an enormous amount of evidence to suggest central Texas water supplies have been compromised by radioactive contamination. What’s almost as disturbing: Texas officials have been slow to respond to the crisis. In some instances, the actions of officials seem to be negligent.

The particular type of radiation of concern here is called ionizing radiation. Ionizing or charged particle radiation is different from sunlight that has commonly understood radiation such as ultraviolet and infrared radiation. The sun is often pointed at as a source of safe radiation in order to muddy the contaminated waters by those who have a selfish interest in underreporting the risks of radiation.

250px-Alpha_Decay.svgThe radioactive contaminants that we are concerned about in water are mostly alpha and beta particles. Alpha particles are from radioactive decay where essentially a helium 4 nuclei is released. Alpha particles are relatively large consisting of two protons and two neutrons but can only travel an inch or two in air. Paper can block alpha particles as can dry skin. Unfortunately if alpha particles are ingested or contact mucus membranes, they make a real mess of things especially cells and DNA.

Beta particles, on the other hand, are smaller than alpha particles and are either an electron or positron. The smaller mass of the beta particle allows it to travel further from the source, up to a few yards in air. Beta particles zip right through skin and a few sheets of paper, but can be blocked by thick plastic. However, the main risks from beta particles are from when they are ingested.

Yea, but…

lead_water_infrastructrure_jackson_flintThere are many natural sources of radiation in water, and groundwater sources are often more at risk than surface sources like reservoirs. There are also plenty of man-made sources and actions that increase the natural amounts of dangerous radiation in drinking water supplies. What makes this go from bad to worse is that the presence and quantity of radioactive materials in water are often either not measured in the first place, averaged over time or a cluster of wells, or wildly underreported through statistical and legal gymnastics. The bottomline is that the science does not lie, but the sources of the science can manipulate and withhold the facts when it suits them. And history has shown us over and over that it suits them.

Bone-seeking radioactive particles are no joke. They are cumulative and do cause cancer. There is no safe minimum consumption or exposure limit for them, and you absolutely cannot trust a government agency to monitor water systems for radioactive concentrations or even notify you if they are detected.  Even worse, if you are informed that there is a problem, it is very likely a long-standing issue and what you are told is most certainly underestimated. In fact I would bet that any reported level of contaminant in a water system that is barely under the threshold of concern is a fake number. There are statistical tricks and legal parkour maneuvers that provide any necessary adjustment to avoid expensive fixes in the name of public safety.

Sound the Alarm

It has been demonstrated many times over decades and continents that radioactive contamination in the water supply will be unreported, underreported, or downplayed. So it is up to the drinker of water to be vigilant and take precautions when necessary. And that’s you.

Geiger_counterWhile there are 10-minute tests for other water contaminants like lead, testing for radioactivity takes a special piece of equipment as well as a deeper understanding of what the results mean. In fact, the geiger counter comes in handy to test your water filter, if you have one and know how to use it. But sadly if you do detect radiation yourself, your life just changed; both inside and out.

Most traditional water filters are limited in their capabilities to handle radiation. But some are better than others. Since water itself does not become radioactive, the radioactive particles can be filtered out similar to other contaminants. But unlike a clogged filter filled with sediments, metals, and parasites, a filter filled with radioactive particles is itself now, to put it bluntly, a component that could be in a dirty bomb.

Activated carbon can remove a common radioactive element found in water namely iodine-131. But when the load capacity of the filter is reached, you might not know it. It seems the best bet for the consumer is a combination of active charcoal and a reverse osmosis filter like the Epic Pitcher.

But there are indications when worry might be more necessary. Such as when there is a nuclear event in the news. Fukushima was a big one, but provided a test not unlike when a volcano spews ash and we can see how much lands and where. Globally, radioactive fallout from Fukushima was detected everywhere one looked. And even right here under my Big Sky. In this article from The Japan Times it is clear that the Fukushima situation is far from over. In fact the February 2017 article states the radiation level in reactor 2 has reached its highest radiation level since core meltdown in 2011.

So even if you have no immediate concern about radiation, you should have a plan and the supplies to act on that plan.

How Do We Lose Body Heat Conduction, Convection, And Radiation

Want to know how you lose body heat?

Heat is transferred by three ways. Conduction, Convection, And Radiation. 

Right Now As I write this I’m losing body heat on my backside from Convection. Sitting in my hammock without a pad under me. 

My legs are being warmed by conduction using an electric blanket. 

And lastly, my tiny house is usually warmed by radiant heat provided by my Buddy Burner heater. 

Just as how Conduction, Convection, And Radiation are the methods by which we lose body heat they are also how we gain warmth. 

Let’s break down each of the three heat transfer mechanisms in depth. 



Conduction is the transfer of heat between substances that are in direct contact with each other.

Whenever two things come into contact with each other the one with the higher temperature will begin to transfer that heat to the colder one. 

You lose body heat in air temperatures lower than 68°F .

The body loses about 2% of its heat through air conduction. However, you will lose body heat much faster in water. 

If you have ever tried to sleep on the ground without a sleeping pad you will know this. The parts of your body making contact with the ground begin to feel cold. 

To prevent this you need a sleeping pad or improvised ground cover. You can make a big pile of leaves sleep on. 

Basically, you want to have a buffer between you and a cold surface so you don’t lose body heat through conduction. 


Convection is when a fluid, such as air or a liquid, is heated and then travels away from the source, it carries the thermal energy along. 

The next way we  lose body is called convection. The definition of convection is weird but I’ll explain it better. 

When you boil water you will notice steam rising off it. The steam is carrying away heat as it rises. The same occurs when you step out of a really hot shower and see steam rising off yourself. 

That’s a visual example but it is happening even if you can’t see it.

The body loses 10% to 15% of its heat through convection.

Convection causes movement as well that will steal heat. Like wind blowing on you. Or the air movement under your hammock. 

To prevent heat loss through convection you want to minimize air flow. 

Putting a barrier to prevent the wind from blowing across you will help slow down heat loss from convection. 


Thermal radiation generates from the emission of electromagnetic waves. These waves carry the energy away from the emitting object.

The last way we lose body heat is through radiation. Just like the buddy burner, a wood stove or the sun.

Radiation does not need to come into contact with a solid or have movement. It simply projects out the heat. 

Think of it this way. Turn on the eye of your stove top. You see it turn red and know it’s hot. Now hold your hand above it. With no air blowing from it to you and without touching it you can feel it’s heat. 

In air temperatures below 68°F, you will radiate your body heat out. Just like a wood stove , you are projecting your heat.

This means it is leaving your body. And the body loses 65% of its heat through radiation.


Hence why we want to have proper clothing to trap that heat in. The more body heat your clothes can retain the warmer you will be. 

There are nuances though to clothing keeping you warm. You will want clothing that allows moisture to move away from your skin. And to prevent air flow from getting to your skin. 

In the winter for cotton under layers will get damp from sweat and then rapidly cool you down. 


Now you know how you lose body heat. You understand how heat is transferred by convection, conduction, and radiation. 

And I left out the complicated science. No need to know that when matter is heated molecules move faster. And when faster-moving molecules come into contact with slower ones they transfer their kinetic energy to them thus speeding up the slower moving particles while itself slowing down. AKA conduction. 

Understanding the mechanics behind how we lose body heat also teaches how to retain it. 

Knowing how it is lost and gained will help you to stay warm and alive in a survival situation.

Let’s Talk about Nuclear Survival Gear  today. I hear a lot going on about nuclear war with Russia. I would like to say up front that I do not think that is going to happen. Nuclear war with any of the big world powers is very unlikely. 

If any world power launches a nuclear attack on anyone the rest of the world will retaliate. Putin may be many things but he is not a Nihilist. No one wants to scorch the world. 

If we ever see a nuke set off It will be a lone wolf bomber. Or a group that is not affiliated with a country that doesn’t care about the outcome. I see the likeliness of a dirty bomb being set off in strategic locations to be more probable. 

With that said having preps for a dirty bomb makes sense. If I’m wrong and Russia hits us with some nukes then the same gear will work. At least if there’s anything left. If you are in the area that gets hit it’s game over. No prep can save you from taking on a nuclear bomb. 

Nuclear Survival Gear

Some of these you will probably know. Lists of nuclear survival gear are always going around. My buddy Matt sent me a link recently to one. It was bad. They had soap on the list. Yes, It can help but I’m sure you have soap anyway. I wanted ones you might not know. 


Iodine Pills

I’m sure you’ve seen this one and might already have it in your preps. Potassium iodide pills are the first nuclear survival gear people think of. The price has come down significantly on the iOSAT pills since Fukushima. 

Iodine pills are not a magical radiation pill, though. It only prevents radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland. It won’t help once the thyroid is damaged. 

In the event of a nuclear attack, you want to begin immediately taking Potassium Iodide. You need to fill up the thyroid with stable iodine so no radioactive iodine gets in. 


Prussian Blue

No, not the artist or laundry kind. The CDC says it is not that same. I can’t find any sources to either prove or disprove this. 

Prussian Blue is a pill, by prescription, that can help remove radioactive cesium and thallium from people’s bodies. It traps radioactive cesium and thallium in the intestines and keeps them from being re-absorbed.

The radioactive materials then move through the intestines and are passed in bowel movements.

Prussian blue reduces the biological half-life of cesium from about 110 days to about 30 days and  thallium from about 8 days to about 3 days.

You will need to either ask your doctor about getting a prescription or poke around on the internet for a source to buy. 


DTPA (Diethylenetriamine pentaacetate)

DTPA (Diethylenetriamine pentaacetate) is a medicine that can bind to radioactive plutonium, americium, and curium to decrease the amount of time it takes to get radioactive plutonium, americium, and curium out of the body.

It works by tightly binding to radioactive materials  then passing them  from the body in the urine. 

It is best to take right after radiation exposure to reduce the time that the material is inside your body. 

This too is by prescription only. Which makes no sense since it, not Prussian blue have off-label uses. 


Radiation badge

Radiation badges are carried by first responders and people that work in and around radiation. These badges are a calmative indication of radiation exposure. So the meter will never reset. It, however, does not require power. It will fit in a wallet so you can carry it everywhere you go. 

They will work great to check your exposure after an event. It will also show you how well you are avoiding radiation. 

Geiger counter

There are a ton of Geiger counters on amazon. Many of them are well over $100 though. I know y’all don’t have tons of money floating around. Neither do I. There are some affordable smartphone ones. You just plug them into the headphone jack. 

Or you could go the DIY route and make one. Here is a link to an Instructable on building a Geiger counter. It might be a project for the more experienced of you. 


Radiation hazmat suit

Chem suits are pretty cheap on Amazon. Here is one for $12. I would not recommend getting a cheap one and deliberately going out in radiation. 

I would use them for emergencies. Only use them when you have to. Best practices would be to stay inside.

I have also seen hazmat suits at army surplus stores. I would trust a mil surplus one. They overbuild everything. 


Plastic sheeting

In a nuclear event, you want to seal up your home. Cover the windows, vents, and doors. You do not want radiation to get inside. 

The more radiation you keep from getting inside the less you have to worry about removing. Only physical barriers will keep radiation from entering the body. 



 Stored Water

Not much to add to this. You need stored water in your Nuclear Survival Gear preps. If you follow the rest of the advice I’m giving you and drink radiated water you’re screwed. 

I almost left it off the list because you need to have water storage covered in basic preps anyway. Since water is so important I’m telling you again. 


Sea Salt And Baking Soda

This is where the list of Nuclear Survival Gear gets weird. I like weird. And hopefully, you do too. 

I came across this article on using sea salt and baking soda. It is kinda out there and suggests using diet for radiation and cancer (which I agree with). 

One of the gems learned from this article is that Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium. Yup  good old baking soda binds with uranium. 

It recommends soaking in a bath of sea salt and baking soda to draw out the radiation. Although it does seem like pseudo-science it may just help out. And both items should be in your preps anyway. 


Ketone Esters

This one was a bit harder to track down sources for. I remember hearing Dom D’Agostino on the Tim Ferriss show mention ketones effect on radiation exposure. 

Basic science supports the idea, that nutritional ketosis could preserve  the cellular, tissue and physiology of people exposed to radiation. He talks about this concept for astronauts but also for Japanese near Fukushima. 

I like to be in at least mild ketosis the majority of the time. So I will be fine. If you don’t want to eat a ketogenic diet you have options now. This science paper stated that:

The invention relates to methods of using ketogenic compounds to protect against the adverse effects of radiation exposure, including ionizing radiation tissue damage. NIH inventors have discovered that ketone esters can be used to reduce tissue damage if administered before or after exposure to radiation. Specifically, the invention relates to esters and oligomers of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate that are capable of elevating blood levels of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate to sufficient levels to reduce cell death caused by radiation-induced damage of DNA and RNA. The development of effective radioprotectant molecules such as these is of great importance in reducing tissue damage following intentional or accidental radiation exposure. This discovery can also increase the therapeutic efficacy of radiation therapies by protecting non-target tissues from incidental radiation damage.


So by having some exogenous ketones as a prep you can start taking it as soon as you are exposed. New products are coming out all the time if the price on KetoCaNa is a little steep. With the benefits from it though I would say, is will easily pay for itself. Fasting will get you into ketosis fast too. 



In Conclusion


There are probably more herbal remedies out there for radiation. And I encourage you to go look and research on your own. With the Nuclear Survival Gear, I recommend in this post I feel that you will survive a radiation exposure event. 

In the case that you are not a direct target. Nothing I can recommend for that. The best advice I have is to not live in a city that is a desirable target.

If you live in a town with a small population at least some distance from the larger cities you will be better off. We preppers often gravitate to smaller towns anyway. 

The big key is to minimize exposure. So the less exposure to radiation you have the better off you will be. 

Next is that most of the nuclear survival gear items need to be used ASAP. The sooner you treat radiation sickness the better your chances of survival is. 

Combining any or all of these will raise those chances more.

indian point energy center wikimediaBy now, the average American has no excuse for not knowing how decrepit our infrastructure has become. Many of our roads, bridges, and dams are falling apart, and continue to be used long after their expected lifespan has expired. When any of these structures fail, you can expect plenty of casualties and mayhem.

But there’s only so much damage that a crumbling dam or bridge can do. The most frightening aspect of our infrastructure, is our electrical grid. Specifically, our nuclear power plants. If anything ever happened to those facilities, it would make any other infrastructure related disaster pale in comparison. And unfortunately, we may have just received a small taste of what that disaster might look like. A nuclear reactor was just shut down in New York, after a monitoring well detected a 65,000% increase in radiation levels.

ALBANY – New York will investigate the Indian Point Energy Center after Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he learned that “radioactive tritium-contaminated water” leaked into the groundwater at the nuclear facility in Westchester County.

Cuomo, in a letter Saturday to the state Health Department and the Department of Environmental Conservation, called for the probe after he said Entergy Corp., the Buchanan plant’s owner, reported “alarming levels of radioactivity” at three monitoring wells.

While the facility reported that the contamination has not migrated off site and did not pose an immediate public health threat, Cuomo said that the incident requires a full investigation.

“Our first concern is for the health and safety of the residents close to the facility and ensuring the groundwater leak ‎does not pose a threat,” said Cuomo, who lives in New Castle, Westchester County.

So the company that owns the power plant claims that the public has nothing to worry about, which is why they never alerted the surrounding communities. And yet, the governor wants a full investigation to see if the plant poses any health hazards. That’s reassuring. Some members of the State’s Assembly don’t seem to find it comforting either.

The findings of contamination drew harsh criticisms from state Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, D-Suffern, who said in a released statement that this was not the “first time Entergy’s operation and maintenance has failed.” The nuclear power plant, Jaffee added, “cannot continue to operate as it has without a full and thorough investigation of this incident.”

“My primary concern is the potential impact this tritium-contaminated water may have on the health and safety of those who live nearby but also the impact this radioactive water may have on public health and our environment,” Jaffee said in the statement.

And she’s right. The Indian Point Energy Center should be a poster child for how decrepit our infrastructure is, because there have been countless age related issues in the facility over the past few years. Just last year a transformer exploded, a malfunctioning fan caused a reactor to shut down, and an electrical problem caused a different reactor to shut down for several weeks. There have been about 5 shutdowns over the past year, and to top it all off, the plant’s former supervisor was charged and fined for falsifying safety records the year before.

Not surprisingly, two of the reactors have passed their 40 year licensing period, which is how long most nuclear reactors were initially designed to last. And Indian Point Energy Center isn’t alone. Three quarters of America’s nuclear power plants have received 20 year extensions. It’s safe to say that what happened in New York last weekend is going to become a common occurrence all over the United States, and the worst has yet to be seen.

(NaturalNews) Large, bloody tumors continue to turn up in Pacific marine animals, raising concern that the ocean food web may be widely contaminated by radioactive isotopes from the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Unfortunately, no U.S. government agency has tested the ocean or its animals for this contamination, making it impossible to know how many North Americans are consuming radiation-contaminated seafood.

In March 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami triggered a triple meltdown at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The plant ejected an enormous volume of radioactive waste, nearly all of which found its way into the Pacific Ocean. In June 2015, researchers confirmed that Fukushima radiation carried by ocean currents had started to arrive along North America’s west coast.

Migratory fish had, of course, already been swimming in those same currents for four years.

(NaturalNews) Studies suggest that all bluefin tuna caught off the U.S. West Coast are likely carrying radioactive isotopes from the 2011 Fukushima disaster.

That’s just one more reason to avoid eating Pacific bluefin tuna, which are considered critically endangered. Over-fishing has reduced their population to only 3.6 percent of its historic levels. It is unknown what further effects radiation poisoning might have on this threatened fish.

In March 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami triggered multiple meltdowns at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Explosions launched enormous amounts of radioactive material into the air, most of which settled into the Pacific Ocean. Since then, radioactive material has continued to leak into the ocean from the plant.

(NaturalNews) Government data shows that the U.S. is being bombarded with Fukushima radiation 1,000 times higher than normal.

In the months following the 2011 meltdowns at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, residents of Los Angeles were being exposed to levels of dangerous alpha radiation nearly 1,000 times above normal levels, a government study found.

The data came from a July 2012 presentation at the National Conference on Radiation Control. The presentation was given by Joji Ortego, Principal Radiation Protection Specialist for Los Angeles County Radiation Management.

Following the Fukushima meltdowns, Los Angeles county heard many concerns from residents about the potential health impacts of radiation crossing the Pacific Ocean from the disaster. So they commissioned a study of radiation levels in the area. The report notes that federal agencies delayed in providing information to the county, and that the state Radiologic Health Branch was unable to provide inspectors due to budget constraints. The state lab was unable to provide a reasonable turnaround time for sample analysis, so the county instead hired a local radiation monitor manufacturer for the analysis.
