The coldest and most far-reaching arctic blast so far this season will spread across the majority of the contiguous United States next week.

Frigid air from the depths of the Arctic will plunge into the United States as the jet stream (a fast-river of air along which storms travel) drops southward.

The coldest days of next week will yield highs and lows of generally 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit below normal from the Northwest and Rockies to the Gulf and East coasts.

Downpours will persist over flood-ravaged areas of Louisiana through the middle of the week.

“A front will stall out near the Gulf Coast, leading to a couple of unsettled days across the region,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Frank Strait said.

The enhanced rainfall will only aggravate the situation in flood-ravaged Louisiana.

“The ongoing downpours will not only hinder rescue, recovery and cleanup efforts but could also lead to additional incidents of flooding,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

Why is cold air returning to the East after an unusually warm start to spring?

Survival World News

Following a very warm start to spring over the eastern United States, why is cold air returning in April, when temperatures typically trend upward?

During much of March and long stretches of the winter for that matter, arctic air had been locked up across central and northern Canada.

“Persistent high pressure aloft near the Atlantic coast prevented cold air from moving southward out of Canada and into the eastern United States,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.

Up To 2 Feet Of Rain To Cause Record-Challenging River Crests In Texas, Louisiana

Click here to view the original post.

Survival World News

By Alex SosnowskiAccuWeather

Relentless downpours that will bring rain totals up to 2 feet of rain in parts of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas will produce record flooding on some area rivers and bayous into this weekend.

The excessive rainfall of the past few days is seeping into the ground and has begun working its way into progressively larger rivers.

Rising water has already hit some communities hard and closed roads and interstates across Texas to Louisiana. Some roads have crumbled due to the excessive floodwaters.

Additional unprotected communities and roads along the waterways will be at risk for taking on water.

The risk of major flooding will also expand into southern and eastern Arkansas, western Mississippi and western Tennessee as more rain falls farther east and northeast through Saturday.
